Hi guy's, am still looking for The Chiffons, he's so fine on the Stateside label if anyone can help please. Yes i know it's not northern but someone must have one of these tucked away somewhere. It was as common as muck and cheap too. Would like it in excellent condition please. P.M. me a price and condition. Thanks in advance, Sue. OZ.

Hi guy's, Could anyone please help with a couple of real cheapies. The Ronettes, be my baby either on philles records 116 blue label or london HL-U 9793 and The Chiffons, he's so fine on 1ST ISSUE Laurie 3152. Both must be in at least excellent condition. I know there are plenty on evilbay but would rather deal with folks on here as i know they will be as described and i have had no problems buying from here before. No re-issues please. Appreciate a pm with condition and price. Nice if one seller had both to save on postage. Thanks in advance. Sue. OZ.

We all know it's a well known fact that the biggest portion of artists that made our wonderful music were ' one hit wonders '. No fault of their own, they were just a product of their time and sadly most faded into obscurity. But let's not forget the ones that went on to make the ' big time ' commercially. I wonder if they would even remember cutting the all important tracks that have kept us dancing our socks of for the last 30 odd years. Two that spring to mind for me are Ike and Tina Turner and of couse the Pointer Sisters. Any you want to add please feel free. Stay soulful, Tony T BONE. OZ.

Spot on Dante. It is only for a few seconds but there nonetheless and creates a wonderful break for the dancers.

Glad you enjoyed the sound track. I spun the acetate for the very first time here at the FLY in Fremantle last Friday. WOW !!! it went down a storm as expected and Andy Cox was there to witness it. Think i detected a tear in his eye, bless him. B.T.W. Larry Clinton helped produce this for Sidney. Not too sure of a release date yet for the 45, but watch this space. Tony T Bone. OZ.

Warm breath sounds fine, just don't do it after a VINDALOO !!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, a little washing up liquid and a soft babies toothbrush works fine. -
There you go Mike. What a cracking sound eh ?? To all soul sourcers....ENJOY !!!!

O.K. Mike, happy to do that but how do i upload from an MP3. Been speaking with Andy Cox who is involved in the release of the eventual 45 of Chains and is laying down the vocal for the B side at present ( we think it will be titled ' Uptight " ). He is happy to have the sounclip on S.S. Best. Tony. OZ.

Know what you mean Roburt. He truly is a proper gentleman of soul. I too saw him at Prestatyn last March and had the good fortune to be able to have a chat with him. I have had some great laughs at the copies of emails i have from him recently, particularly about his new record and what it means to him. Tony. OZ.

Just been listening to the MP3 of a fantastic new track from Sidney Barnes and the Funk Brothers titled '" Chains ". My good mate Andy Cox here in Perth, aka Soul Exchange has been chatting to Sidney via email and is hoping to lay the music for the b side to what will be a dancefloor filler. Background behind the new track apparently is, it's a Funk Brothers instrumental track from the vaults with Sidney singing the vocals and a solo sax accompanyment by Mike Terry who is a good friend of Sidney's. As yet there is no designated label for the release but it's thought the eventual release of the 45 may be available through John Manship at www.raresoulman. Sidney admits to making the record for the ' northern soul scene ' to which he is very popular and his endearing fans will be clammering to get their hands on this awesome newie. Not sure I can upload the MP3 as yet on soul source as it's all a bit ' up in the air ' at the present time and there could be copyright issues. However, Sidney say's ' I am really anxious to get this out to everyone on the northern soul scene asap '. It will be a hit wherever it's played. Look out for it in future sales listings. Keep the Faith. Tony. OZ.

I see your point there Nev. Good thing is that Liam, Callum et al know the 'northern soul ' etiquette. That is firstly no drinks on the dancefloor and respect everyone else's space. Sad thing is today most if not all the youngsters coming in to soul nights insist on drinking on the dancefloor as they are too scared to leave them on tables through fear of either getting them stolen ar worse...spiked. They also ionsist on making nuicances of themselves by pratting around and basically getting on other peoples nerves. It's not new this behaviour, it's the norm in any nightclub in the world. Sadly they don't do themselves any favours and when told about their antics usually come back with a mouthful of abuse and never return. It's not our fault and I don't see a way of educating them. Does anyone have the answer ?????

Just got my 5 new Kent singles courtesy of Ady and the crew. Have to say they are all fantastic and a must for every collector. Just how does Ady manage to dig up these fabulous tunes ?? I particularly like Spencer Wiggins version of ' make me yours '. Just can't wait to get home form work tonight and give them a proper blast on the big system. Tony. OZ.

Just heard that Ce Lo Green won best male artist at last nights Brit awards and sang his hit ' forget you ' accompanied by Paloma Faith. Although he doesn't fit into the category of a ' northern soul artist ' it's still nice to see, and if you think he can't make a record that resembles our great music then take a listen to his cracking song ' It's O.K.' Surely one that deserves play's in the modern rooms. On another note, British band Plan B also figured up there. We have just had them over here for the big day out playing their motown covers and they went down a storm. Soul Music to the fore guy's, it's all happening. Keep the faith. Tony. OZ.

My sentiment entirely Chalky. They were only as an example and not meant as HAS TO HAVES to any young deejay wanting to ' have a go ' at a soul night. Yes there are plenty of records in the 10 - 20 pound bracket, only trouble is you can go to any one of a hundred soul nights ANYWHERE and here them. To get onto the big stage nowaday's you have to be able to compete and my thread was intended to highlite the problem with young up and coming deejay's being able to, or not get onto that big stage. I was asking for opinions on what might happen in the future, as let's face it we are not gonna last forever. The collections of records will survive long after we have all gone to the big soul night in the sky BUT will there be enough people with the knowledge, money or enthusiasm to play them...and to who ???????????

I know what you mean Mark, just take a look at the Willinghams playlist from the Rugby allnighter and see just what you can amass in terms of value of vinyl. Got to wonder if the average person getting into the scene today with a new mortgage, car loan etc. will ever be able to afford anywhere near that sort of collection...I for doubt it very much. When I started to re-build my collection some 6 years ago I was looking at records under 100 pounds. Didn't take long for me to buy my first 1000 pounder. Since then it's just become a total addiction. Where will it end ??? Thank gawd I have a well paid job with a company car / fuel paid and no mortgage to worry about.
-
All very good points Dylan and, partly why i opened the thread in the first place. Sounds like you have just got to put your name forward to a few promoters over there and hope someone will give you the chance at a debut spot. The future of the scene relies on up and coming younger folk despite any negatives towards it being for those that were in it from the start. One other thing that struck me after posting the thread was i ommitted to mention that most young people would eventually have huge outlay's for mortgages etc. new families coming along and not too much disposable income to spend on expensive vinyl. Sad but true nonetheless !!

This is a topic that is discussed at length on many occasions over here in Australia and I'm sure it crops up many, many times in conversations in the U.K. as well. While we collectors who also deejay at many events are fortunate to have the collections of vinyl that continue to fill dancefloors every weekend, year in, year out, just who are going to be the deejay's of the future ? Is it going to be the odd Son or Daughter for that matter who will be allowed to get their hands on the ole' mans prized collection as surely, with the spiralling prices of the big ticket items the up and coming younger folk will hardly be in a position to buy them. I was discussing this with someone on the local radio station ( soul purpose ) the other week and, while he has a certain liking for some of the Northern sounds he admitted to never ever likely being in a position to buy enough to make the move behind the decks. I for one fully expect to continue running and attending soul nights with a passion as long as I have breath in my body, as do many thousands of other devotees out there, but it begs the question as to where we are going to attract enough younger folk to venture into the deejaying field. Yes there are a few more ' younger ' people attending soul nights as I have seen on my many trips back to old blighty, and we are now getting a few more here too, but.... they seem to have no interest besides having a good time on the dancefloor, and no, there is nothing wrong with that. The only younger deejay's, and I compare them to us 50 plus year olds, i have seen behind the decks are playing in the modern rooms, ( Prestatyn for example ). So as not to harp on, If you have the time I would appreciate any positive comments on the subject. Thanks and stay soulful. Tony, South West Soul, Fremantle, Western Australia.

Same as a mini snickers bar i suppose. Not quite as big but just as tasty and all the same ingredients.
