  2. RIP Bobby. Too many highs to mention. One of the most memorable live concerts at Hammy Odeon with Altrina Grayson in his 'Poet' period. Absolutely spine tingling Soul. Fave track, "If you don't want my love". Tony Horn
  3. All of Donny Hathaways "Someday We'll All Be Free" but especially the line after the trumpet solo "Keep on walking tall, hold your head up high"
  4. Cripes! Sat on a copy of that with pic sleeve for years. Went in a job lot a few years back. But, I only paid a pound for it out of curiosity out of a very well known dealers' bargain bin at Soul Essence about 15 years ago! You win some.....
  5. 27 - Something Unique - This Feeling Between Us - Sheridan House
  6. Leslie Drayton feat. Barbara Morrison "When Will You Be Mine". On the 'Love Is A Four Letter Word" LP and I think LP only? Clips on You Tube.
  7. I'm with you and Jordi on this one Val. Absolutely love the flute and piano work too! Play it loads at home and played it out a few years back at Jackie Allsorts' Full, Fat & Funky all dayer.
  8. Walter Bee is a boss tune! Had some interest when I span it out recently. Won't be £10 much longer I reckon. And I played the Alton McClain the same night! Spooky! Nice selection Paul.
  9. That's the one! It was doing my head in! Thanks to everyone who helped by looking, Cheers.
  10. Twice been in Matalans and heard a superb tune over the in-store system which I can't identify. Male vocalist naggingly familiar, slightly jazzy moody vibe with flute passages. Hook line appears to be something along the lines of "I Need Lovin, Good Good Lovin". It's mixed in amongst the usual Xmas fodder! Be grateful if anyone can help? (Witty retorts about shopping in Matalan on a postcard please?)
  11. Top pick Mal! I made this my Record Of The Issue for the first edition of my Soulin' magazine about 15 years ago. I'm delighted it's getting due recognition now.
  12. One I remember in the new release secton of B&S was Felice Taylor "I Fell Over Coming On"!!! Painful!
  13. I'm guessing "He Who Picks A Rose" on Okeh? Cheers!
  14. Was boxing that for The Duke night in August Steve.Great instrumental!
  15. Didn't know about this version. Got the Jana on Sound Gems and know about Eddie Carr & Willis Wooten. Are there any others?
  16. Fascinating info. Great read. Where do you find the time??
  17. Normally get pretty quick e-mail confirmation from him when ordering through the site. Never actually tried ringing though...
  18. Looks cool but would make it the first 'listed' Blue Candle 45? Very interesting....and nice tune of course. Looking forward to the experts take on this one.
  19. I was in contact with James Holvay some years ago for a piece in my Soulin' magazine. He cut a couple of CD EPs one of which included "Hot & Heavy Love" - a popular spin at Soul Essence at the time. I don't think it ever got picked up for official release which was a real shame. Really nice guy who always remembered me on his Xmas card list for years afterwards. "I'd Like To See More Of You" a personal fave too.
  20. The Needle's Eye does it for me but seconded...great album
  21. Don't know if there's been a previous thread about record sleeve decoration? Like many others (I suspect?), I used to write artist/title/label details in a sort of bubble type graffiti style on the card sleeves and always included my signature. After moving to London in 1976, I sold off a lot of my Northern stuff to mates back home. I returned in 1992 and not long afterwards bought a box of 45's at a Car Boot sale which contained no less than four card sleeves originally decorated by me! Needless to say they housed different titles but amazing how they survived all that time.
  22. I always assumed the Orange/Black 77 issue (or multi-coloured) was just a slightly later press on the newly designed label? I certainly bought it either late '74/early '75 and definitely not as late as 1977. Got the Yellow issue many years later.
  23. Fondly remember those Motown Chartbusters and Tighten LP's thanks to my older brother and his mates initially. First LP I owned was Four Tops 'Main Street People' bought for me as a christmas present. Already familiar with their Motown classics I wondered niavely at the time why this was on ABC? Loved (and still do) "I Just Can't Get You Out Of Mind".
  24. Sorry if stating the obvious but they became New York City recording for Chelsea.
