Know the funk brothers wanted the Roosevelt 45 a while back Interesting on the JW, may well put it up for auction now Allan Sisters is a legit test pressing, had it for donkey years, got for around £200. Value now? Cheers Chalky for the info to date

Can anyone give me idea on current values for the following: Roosevelt Matthews - You got me digging you (King issue) * edge warp but plays fine John Wesley - Loves a funny thing Allan sisters - Downtown Crowd (White Test pressing) ta

Just wanted to add here that IMHO Mr Anderson and Co's Grapevine2000 set-up must rank as one of the strongest UK soul labels ever. Just take a look at the releases to date, all of which I have, not a duff track amongst them and interspread with lesser known, to me anyway, gems. So, a huge pat on the back from me and a huge cow pat in the face for the moaners

Probably will be Taff, you know Lenny, he's a follower not a leader Besides he's going to need a few good tunes to spin when he guests at the Plinston next year As for your badge, does that mean your a big pri**...I'll stop now (only kidding Len, you know I rate you)

Still recovering from another blinding night at North Herts Number 1 Rare Soul venue and what a night it was! Considering that we were expecting only around 100 in, due to it being Bonfire night and the Hembsy Rally being on, we were more than pleased to welcome 260 through the doors. All of whom were up for dancing from the start. The night was, in the opinion of many that I spoke to on the night and who have phoned and emailed me since, one of the best yet (so if you werent there you missed a belting one!) The atmosphere was electric, the people great and the music outstanding with the across-the-board policy working well to get even the most sore feet grooving.Guests Sean Chapman and Dave Halsall did fantastic sets in The Ghetto! and Sean also in the Main Hall where a sea of dancers greeted his every selection. It says something for Sean when he managed to keep the loyal Ghetto Crew upstair with him whilst Soul Sam was ripping up the dance floor in the Main Hall. (I am sure Sean will post his own comments on the night here when he gets back from Italy!) Mr Halsall surprised many with an excellent selection of the great and the good in Modern Soul and has earned a deserved return trip to what many consider one of the best modern rooms in the South.Needless to say Taffy, Nathan and Soul Sam delivered their usual quality sets which saw, as always, The Ghetto! grooving as only they can. DArcy in particular was a very happy and VERY sweaty man by the close :-)In the Main Hall the atmosphere was buzzing and again an across the board policy of oldies, newies etc went down well with the Soulful and the dancefloor groaned under the weight of slipping and sliding leather soled feet. Fingers and Hammie were greeted with the usual warm embrace by the Plinston regulars, Soul Sam (making another venture into the main room from The Ghetto!) played one of the best sets he has done, according to many, and as stated Sean Chapman really brought the house down, even despite his dubious dancing and obviously doddgy T-shirt choice!!!!! I finished the last hour with a mix of classic oldies, quality 70s and a few sixties newies and ending the night with Im On My Way to a handclapping acomplment from those still with enough energy to so so. The Mojo Room saw busy action all night and I last got a chance to spin my R&B selection in there to an apprecitive crowd. At this rate we may even convert Soul Sam...or maybe not :-)))))In short, a great night and roll on January 14th with Ginger, Mischief and Dave Flemming guesting...be there or miss out on one of the Souths best nights! TheBigO * So many fun things to report but will just note a few here: Soul Sam in a red stetson hat at the end in The Ghetto! spinning The Whole Damm Worlds Going Crazy and dedicating it to the Us election; Sean Chapman mincing, that is the only word we can use, all night to the Toons, Taffy standing with a handbag outside the Ladies trying to look OK with it; the girls outside having a cigarette and trying not to look like naughty schoolkids; Tim Brown getting really p***ed off at the number of people telling him that the rare Constelations track he reviewed was an old Plinston spin; myself and Sean being caught in some very dubious poses (see photos elsewhere)...the list is endless so feel free to add

I was sad to hear of the news of Dave's death. I met him at randy's funeral and chatted to him there and in subsequent emails leading up the Southgate memorial event in Randy's memory and found him a warm and gentle man whose outlook on, not only the scene but also life in general, mirrored many of my own beliefs. A fitting gesture Mike having the site closed down in respect on the day of his funeral, there are few people IMHO that would have done the same. I don't think anyone can really document his contribution to the progression and acceptance of BlackAmerican music and culture in this country, so vast and profound has that been. To his family and friends I pass on my sincere condolenses on their loss, his influence and words will be missed. TheBigO

Just come off the phone with Mr Potts who informs me that the first night under his leadership will now be the 28th January as the 14th would have clashed with the Plinston and he did not want to do that, so top marks to him for 'doing the decent thing'. I also got call from him wanting to confirm our 2005 dates in order that the Dome wouldn't be clashing with other local events. Now why can't everyone do this? Mr G, drop me a line at nh6tsmafia@aol.com as I need to sort you out a spot at the Plinston in the new year otherwise Taff's going to jump on my head!!!! :o

I'vebeen spinning The Vondells 'Valentino' which has a Doo-Wop feel to it to a packed floor in the Mojo Room at the Plinston for the past 2 years. Great record.

The Great - Not The Merely Mediocre
TheBigO replied to Billy Freemantle's topic in All About the SOUL
I loved, and still love, Slade and to my mind ignored for too long by the music press for their contribution to the UK pop world - and they made one of the greatest 'music' movies of all time with 'Flame'. -

Guest Posted: 2003/11/19 17:50 Updated: 2003/11/19 17:50 Re: eric lomax girl your so good -c/u By the way that makes copy No 5 - Butch, Mick S&Mick H, Dave Welding and Steve Gaunori both have it as well. Sadly us mere mortals will have to be content with trying to mug them for it or praying to the God that is Mr Anderson that he may be able to secure the rights to it for a Grapevine release. taffy Posted: 2003/11/19 20:12 Updated: 2003/11/19 20:12 Regular Joined: 2003/6/30 From: letchworth Posts: 32 Re: eric lomax girl your so good -c/u and 4 out of the 5 came via soulbowl. Is it an unissued acetate? Who knows, but I did hear rumour some time ago that Mr Anderson was trying to secure the rights to an unissued UK LP by someone well known that fell through so it may be that if it is unreleased. Questions, always questions!!!! Mind you, at the next Plinston both Mick Smith and Butch can spin it at the same time in both rooms, that should really p*** us all off and rub salt in the wounds!!!! It is still a great record and one I belivie that Mick S spun first a good few years back so hats off to him for such a quality tune. Another for the Southern Soul Fraternity!!! Guest Posted: 2003/11/20 16:21 Updated: 2003/11/20 16:21 Re: eric lomax girl your so good -c/u Correction - I have been told by my all-seeing Guru Taff that it was Dave Welding, then Butch then Mick then Steve who got the said record in that order - so a slap on the wrist for me, and a slap around the head for the smug Taff!!!!! Oh and he knows, because hes been told, the story behind the 45 I belive. As for John Manship willing to part with £££s for any info on its real identity I think his moneys safe because at 4 figures for one you can bet that said 5 DJs/Collectors will not be rushing to phone him to screw themselves!!!! Has anyone checked with Im back; Im gone;Im back; Im gone etc etc Levine to make sure he hasnt got boxes of this rare gem stashed away, like his other rare items: 4 Vandells and so on??? Anyway, thats the fun of collecting :-) * Funny how this tune has been spun at the 100 and Cleethorpes for a good few years and not a whisper - now, BANG! Any reason for this or has the North just caught up with it???? mike- Posted: 2003/11/20 16:55 Updated: 2003/11/20 16:55 team member Joined: 2002/8/26 From: Posts: 2244 Online! Just a quick thought....why is it still covered up??? I mean if 5 People/DJs have the record then whats the point? It must be the big ego thing again kicking in...... LOL The flip side is a great track as well by the way. Uncover the bloody record someone and let the world know who the real artist of this master piece is. Cover up! Cover off more like. You two really are lacking in the Manship offering stakes - I have this moment just offered a moggie Sharonette and a minor copy on Black Magic (of Rick Astleys version of I Go To Pieces) to Dave who is understandably quite excited about the offer - I do have in reserve the picture of you Taffy with the nightdress (!!!) which he seems to be VERY excited about. Keep ya posted. :-) Guest Posted: 2003/11/25 11:05 Updated: 2003/11/25 11:05 Re: eric lomax girl your so good -c/u why??? Oh come on boys surely someone can offer an original Take That (on english) and talking about photos BigO i can go one better i have a picture of Taff, Dave and a sheep called Bobby Mutton at Cleethorpes! still i am glad you realise my first post was being ironic, its all quite funny Dave has been playing this record for a few years now (along with mick&later butch) and getting a good response so to me this is all abit like delayed shock!!! but one thing i can tell you all is that it is a real record on a real label and not an acetate and yes Greg one thing we agree on, the flip side is brilliant...........Louise XX TheBigO Posted: 2003/11/25 20:16 Updated: 2003/11/25 20:16 Hardest Joined: 2002/8/26 From: Arlesey, Bedfordshire, UK Posts: 362 Re: eric lomax girl your so good -c/u why??? The record is great but having just checked out Manships Rarest Of The Rare section on his site I can tell you that there are other equally as good 7Ts movers waiting to be given an airing. I'd imagine if you found a 'normal priced one' then it would be a miracle as nothing seems to be normal priced to me these days :-))))))

I remember getting a load of stuff from the stall at the time, and yes buying blind meant a load of s***e as well, but that was half the fun. No idea where he's gone now. I've a little place in the States that I pick up great toons from for a few dollars, although harder now due to ebay etc. I the past i've picked up Bobby Paris demos, Mind & Matter, OC Smith, Martha Starr, Thelma Houston, Theresa Lindsay to name but a few.

Agree with you Mick and assume the condition must have reflected the price as, and as you state, Manships auction are not known for the chance to pick up a bargain.
