  1. Very unlikely as they were a Prog band to begin with, starting life as The Underbeats, then Gypsy and then reforming with only James as the original member and calling themselves the JWGB. Recorded 2 albums for RCA but only one was issued. Hailed from Minneapolis/St Paul
  2. knackers Benji, I was just about to amend my post to say where the name originates from as well and see you did the honours!!!
  3. Guess all part of the same set-up Pete as Ninandy was owned and run by Andy Stroud and think the Stroud label was a member of the group, named after him obviously. Wasn't he married to Nina Simone?
  4. The only one I have via Mr Manship
  5. Forgot to mention that Taffy, that guardian of all things soulful, put me onto an lp of his, self titled 'Mac Davis' that has a blinding crossover toon on it. Cant remember what the toon is as the house is still like a bombsite after Xmas and the building work but hopefully Taff will post here the title of the track. I also have a spare copy the said lp for sale @ £10
  6. Good looking bloke when he didn't have a beard I think you'll agree. Was involved with the FAME studios if memory serves right. Elvis recorded his songs 'Little Less Conversation' and my fave 'The Ghetto'.
  7. Mike, love the Bobby Hebb track! Isn't there a whole new Cd about to be released upon us from the great man??
  8. I think his birth date is wrong too, seems to be the opinion amongst those in Europe who know far more than me on the man. Not surprised the baby was crying Pete if Man U were on My 2 yr old is just learning her first words: 'Chlesea Champions again' bless
  9. Hi Pete, yes those heady glory days of the mag! I have loved this 45 from the moment I heard it and good old Toby may well be ending my vinyl drought shortly. I just think its a perfect club Mod toon, pigs tits maybe but are you talking tripe? (Groan!!! lol)
  10. Ooooh I'm on form today - a pic of the US/Belgium King of Weird,Northern, Twist, Freakbeat etc etc

  12. No-one mentioned his best, the wonderful 'What Greater Love' on UK UA, awesome toon!!!!!!
  13. See told you! Great 6Ts toon, MAD MAD lyrics and a good little club dancer. I think this is super rare (never seen listed on Polydor listings) so still gutted you have one Simon and I don't but god bless you for allowing others to share in the joy that is this 45!! (Can you tell I love this?) Do you think the writers may have been subject to some illegal substances when they composed this? Spread the word on this and share the love - after all, isn't that what we as a scene have always been about? Rave on! Rave on you mad impetious fools......
  14. Good man Mr T! Been looking for one for 15+ years, post the clip asap so others may enjoy and save me the bother of digging out my old rare UK only tape that's buried somewhere in my garage!!! Cheers xx
  15. I think theres a scan of the label and some info on it in one of the fanzines I have in the crates so will check. Hand written label with the name on it, hence Wayne Harnell.
  16. Hmm that well may have been me asking you to check out the Jack Hammer track Derek as I did rave over it many years ago in my scribblings to SOS! I have it on tape and will get it put on the laptop some time this week but its a great slab of Mod/6Ts club Soul, a clip-clop dancer that builds and has the maddest lyrics if memory serves right: 'Rave on, rave on you mad fools until you melt into a pool of human protoplasm' I think is one memorable line!!!! Its more club soul than Northern Soul but still a great atmospheric toon none the less. Didn't he also have an unissued lp that contained the super rare 'Down In The Subway' (or something like that) that was about some guy jumping in front of the train??? Hmmm, and Vince and I thought Bobby Paris had depressing topics for songs!!!! Will go through the crates and dig it out and update to follow but Mr Smith would be the man to ask. Only a handful of copies???
  17. Yet another quality release from Grapevine then!!! The new George Jackson CD is fantastic!!!
  18. OK Taffy now I AM upset!!! You not spiningmy prezzie to you - X-Factor winner Shaynes new release???? I'm laughing on the outside but inside I'm crying Call you laters mate.
  19. Can I just say a big thanks to the guy that sold me the cream Jerree issue at a Bolton Car Boot for the huge sum of 50p a few years ago (I think 3 to be exact!) with the immortal words 'Its a pile of Levine type dross, don't bother mate!!!!' LOL
  20. ah, I see, no that was me making the point its out of my range....for now :-)
  21. Just saying that at the moment 3 kids = no large cash spare so I'll let my good friend Taffy buy it and let the kids 'aquire' it for me.
  22. Bo***cks! Scrub that last message, contact Taffy direct, let him buy and then my kids can mug him and I get it anyway :-) This is a TOON!!!!
  23. And as I want one as well please PM me first!!!!
  24. Amazon have it and have been waiting for my copy before commenting. there are several postings on peoples reviews there if you care to look.
  25. a half hour set is all that Jo can manage these days, thats why :-)))))) Only kidding Ms Wallace, looking forward to a listen. At least the scene gets a mention!
