  1. Great read and who didn't wait with bated breath for the SB list? I was lucky, my mate Ian was a postie at the sorting office so I would get the 5am call and we would go through the list but unlike Eddie I didn't wait for 8am, basically as soon as we were ready the phone started to ring! Mrs Soul Bowl was lovely, but in the end John didn't have the phone on until the stated time so we just had to hope the chosen ones were there. Great days, legend dealer and part of the scenes history.
  2. Defo be buying as everything Ive ever read by Stuart has been a great read, one of my fave scribes. jnjjn
  3. Jon Buck used to do nights there too and bloody good they were. Ive a few pics I will mail you and a few great stories, like the time there was a riot going on downstairs with Man U fans whilst we were dancing upstairs and we weren't allowed out! It was like a scene from a Western, glasses lobbed around, windows going in, ah those were the days
  4. Will defo be going to see this. My family were Freedom Riders and civil right activists in the sixties and hard to believe that we are talking events that took place within our lifetime. Looks superb.
  5. He was a very VERY vocal soulie if you annoyed him thats for sure
  6. I always got on ok with him and found him fine to deal with albeit a little strange when selling. I remember missing the brooks brothers for something like a tenner on his list and when i pointed out that it was a rare record and should have had extra 0 at end he said he didn't like it and priced it what he felt it was worth! Loved him. His Owls Effort was a good mag and his cover ups were great, quite a few going on to be big in demanders in the 90s.
  7. I will be investing in said CD Ady sharpish. Have been annoying her indoors by spinning around the room to it already
  8. B side to The Old Crowd and not seen it listed for a while.
  9. OK Ady how did Etta pass me by completely??? Fantastic Chicago soul
  10. I really like that Greg, great crossover. Top choice and thanks for the tip and heads up
  11. Major Lance was a legend! When I walked all the way to Stoke to see him perform in the 80s (some 20+ miles) in the pouring rain he came across a sopping wet me outside before people had started to arrive and had a quick chat and like a total knob I didn't realise who he was until I got in and he came over to me before the start of what was a fantastic show by him to say thanks for the support . I almost died! The Major will always be No 1 as far as I'm concerned.
  12. No, all that I know it was an uncredited acetate (see scan elsewhere) with bugger all details.
  13. I kinda of hope that it is Patti purely because I love a good story and god knows the scenes got many many of those concerning the singers etc we love; from bank robbers to pimps and beyond.
  14. Winnie, any named charities from the family mate? Otherwise Heart Foundation would seem the most obvious one
  15. That's the same day I'm in Sussex at the FAS clinic for my son so I'm going to have to miss but will be making donation as requested. Tony was a top man, always had time for everyone and not adverse to the awful joke at 2am in the morning! The local scenes going to miss him that's for sure. I'm sure that there will be many paying their respects on the day. RIP mate,
  16. I never said I didn't like the record Quinvy and I've never been classed as a Soul Snob ever (how very dare you pmsl) but the fact remains it is weird vocally. I always liked it since hearing John Vincent spinning the instrumental of it 'The Dance Track' at Morecambe and elsewhere. As for the drunk etc thats whats out there and as I said earlier we ant never going to really know unless someone steps forward who was there.
  17. Harold Melvin - Get Out. So they did. Boom Boom. I will get my coat........
  18. True Deadpool, who can forget Chuck Jackson with the song lyrics in hand at Hinckley. That said Major Lance was a joy (and a real nice bloke too) and Jr Walker always got the house rock'. Mr Starr needs no mention.
  19. Demo defo, never see one listed.
  20. Cant find where I read about it anywhere on net but defo did somewhere! There was also a story it was the cleaner who was completely off her tits (surprisingly - not!) but I guess its going to remain a mystery unless the session guys or producer step up Chalky. I do like reading the theories though, such is this strange soulful world we choose to be in.
  21. Your right Deadpool, Stafford saw a whole new dance style emerge again from the Northern scene and I certainly remember thinking that the 6Ts Mafia look and dance was fantastic. The style of the sounds also needed that new dance floor flow. Chalky I think I read somewhere else that it was meant to be a rather pissed Patti LaBelle and hence why it never got to see light of day. Not sure if we can take this as the truth but defo read this and I'm certain we are never going to find out but I do kind of like that version.
  22. Massive toon late 80s! Blue eyed soul belter. Always used to follow this with the Festivals 'Music' on Smash when I used to DJ, another great toon.
  23. RIP Tony, as said many times above and on FB a true gent, soulie and all round top man. Had many laughs with him over the years and only just spoke with him the other week via FB as he'd worked out he could send voice messages through Messenger. We pissed ourselves laughing because he sounded like Stephen Hawkins! Sincere sympathies to his family and his Bedford Soul family, gutted
  24. Know what you mean Jay, 50p for at best 2 pages and usually not even that!
