  1. I vaguely recall Kitch spinning an unissued acetate credited to Alice but that could be either a cover-up or the fact there were no credits on the acetate itself so that was the name he gave it. Anyone confirm?
  2. Another studio shot from Ace records site
  3. Hopefully he will get a sense straight away with the love and appreciation of his grandmas music we have
  4. Well done mate, and hats off to Alice, sounds like she really was a decent lady given with what we know so far. Same old story, blissfully unaware that in some far off dark corner of a nighter in a wet and gloomy UK her voice and sound is bringing happiness to thousands and her LP rated as one of the true 70s great Soul albums
  5. Looking forward to update Chalky mate. Im sure you will be getting the questions thick and fast once people hear you've got a direct link to the family mate. Well done
  6. Let us pray we get some info at last and solve another mystery Chalky because scouring the net has proved very sparse!
  7. Kegs your right, my wife sold her dads number plate separately, 8LKK and we made almost 3 1/2 times that paid for on JM auction. Seller missed out there I think

I've often scratched my head at some of the prices and more importantly the sales pitch on RNS site and my wife heard my ranting about quite a few of the big prices being asked for what are known records and in many cases all over youtube!!! Can never understand this, complete agreement with Greg and that is share the music and educate, there is so much out there needing a light shone on it.
  9. The feelers are out there Dayo, we shall wait and see what comes back but in agreement with you, Alice is right up there with the best. Just listened to her Lp again and forgotten just how outstanding every track is.
  10. Thats the ones Im thinking of Chalky and the covers were Hitsville ones. As I said mine are buried behind a load of shite I cleaned out and dumped in the lock up - DOH!
  11. This was on pin' recently, Alice in the studio and just seen her grandson sampled Don't You care for his MC rap; he's Ace Da God so that might be an avenue to get more info on her

There are several that Steve's playing C/U at moment that I think we would all like to know who the hell they are! Soulful Swine
  13. I think, if memory serves right, there were two volumes and it was all the unissued stuff that later got legally issued as i have those CDs somewhere but buried. Will rack my brain and get back to you
  14. Esther just has one of THOSE voices Jocko, a league of her own
  15. Fantastic toon I'd forgotten all about, Carole King at her songwriting best. Thanks for bringing this back up again from one of my all time fave singers - CLASS
  16. Taffy will remember the day the local butchers assistant walked into our local record shop in Letchworth and dumped 3 or 4 boxes full of 45s on the table and asked how much for the lot. First few we saw on top were all red and white demos and included Rufus Lumley; Hogay Lands; Gene McDaniels and that was just what was visible. Turned out every box was crammed with demos and issues of all the tasty British soul releases and nice rare Beat stuff too. The shop were offering to put them out at 25p a pop if I remember right until one of our lot let the cat out the bag as he wanted one of the 45s badly and offered them whatever they wanted for it! KNOB!!!!! Records taken straight back off the counter and they auctioned them off. I remember all the local Letchworth soul boys having agreements amongst themselves as to who was going to get what and so not to bid on those to keep price low. Glory mad heady days
  17. As are all the Pied Piper releases on Kent!
  18. Thats right I remember now, Wirrina November 83. JR and Eddie were fantastic that night. Wasn't he booked for Stafford too?
  19. I am not sure of 83 but he performed live at Hickley in 82 and LP was recorded. The time I spent with him i have to say he was a real gent, superb live and everything my hero should have been. When he died i shed a tear because he really was a gent.
  20. Just did google and yes I'm right, Sir Elton was in the back up band.
  21. 4 years in 1978 for cocaine if memory serves right. Met him at the Tunstall gig in the 80s, top man, lovely guy and utterly brilliant! Had time for me and was just everything I'd hoped he would have been. Didn't one Reg Dwight back him with the band he was in at the time on his UK tours? That would be Elton John?
  22. The Ben E King CBTN track was done very well by the Leg End that is Tom Jones off the Lp, which I spin on rare occasions when i am behind the decks out. TOON
  23. Have always spun her records when behind the decks, a true UK talent.
  24. Grapevine surely one of the very best UK labels Steve with quality with every release and the 2000 series just bloody brillent, the Modern releases certainly saved me from vinyl heartache and divorce!
  25. Forgot to mention you could buy anything off his cheapie selection at the front for under a tenner and know it would be bloody fantastic! Im sure i got my Timeless Legend and Storm from him from that front page bit but will have a look at the old lists with the rings around the buys I have in the loft to confirm. JA is a leg end of biblical proportions and does deserve a book about his record hunting and dealing. His listing of all his stock for sale by label was an absolute goldmine and interspersed with old adverts etc for the releases made for fantastic viewing. Will again look to see whats in the loft
