  1. OOOH John thats looking good!!! Praise be to the great God of all things vinyl XXX Now all i need is a soundfile or lyrics to confirm - put the kettle on baby, daddys coming home STOP THE PRESS! Just seen the lp cover on a google search and YES YES YES thats it!!! if you were a woman John I'd sleep with you X Thanks for ending the search for this aging old soul boy
  2. Thanks Alan, its defo not that. The track itself was called Home Run from a 70's possibly 80s LP and thats all I can remember
  3. Thinking caps on please everyone - many years ago I brought an Lp for a track called 'Home Run', it was a 70s toon and I loved it however it went when I sold my first collection and have since lost the tape that it was on and details and spent the past 20+ years trying to find it again to no avail. I think it was orginally on a Rob pheasent tape (like so many great toons way back) and it was a male artist; lyrics revolving around him hitting all the bases (base 1, base 2 etc) until he hits a home run with his girl. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD can someone put me out of my misery and if you have a soundfile please post here because after 20 years of head scratching I could do with being at peace - thanks, TheBigO
  4. Pretty certain Lenny this is UK only and yes damm hard to get hold of a copy in mint condition (mine was cracked and came from taff waaaaaay back in the early 80's) but not that high value wise I would have thought and certainly not mega rare. I think I remember him being Australian and Ronnie Gordon was one of a few stage names he used as a solo artist - but like you old age is dulling my memory!I'm sure someone like Pete S would be able to give a better indication of price/rariety etc etc. Top toon though and vastly underplayed.
  5. Ok whats the problem with stating that you were in fact correct and that it is the best jazz album etc etc?? I'm not sure if you thought I was being funny with you mate ( I wasn't) I was merely pointing out that you mentioned something that I hadn't and further educated people! I really cant see why you would post a quote like this?????
  6. No I remember Bob being one of the few DJs spanking the heck out of it at the time and more than once! Also a big fave at the Jazz clubs I popped into down our way at the same time - records of quality will always stick in your mind - who can ever forget Joe 90 theme! (Oh hang on )
  7. OOOh well pointed out Mike!nTop observation Said LP being the most popular jazz album in history according to a jazzhead chin stroker mate of mine
  8. Ok its an Lp track that was released by Expansion (I think - havent my copy to hand) as a 45 and a damm fine tune it is too and an old Searling spin I think (old age catching up on me here!) Jimmy was Miles Davis drummer and the voice you hear is that of Gregory Hines (Mr Tap, film actor, his dad was the drummer Chic Hines) and this toon was an ender at many a night I attended in the late 90's. The female vocal is Marilyn Redfield and the project was put together to accomany a video that also involved the great Bill Cosby. Quality TOON that i still spin on occassion when I escape the kids and Scouting etc etc £5-10 for the 45 is about right
  9. All belting TOONS! but for me its got to be the mournful genius of Sammy Davis Jnr 'Not For Me' (UK Reprise) which is a toon I have been spinning on and off since my days gracing the decks in the Starlight Room at the Pier in Morecombe. To the best of my knowledge seldom if ever spun out but I look forward to being corrected
  10. Listen to the B side and you'll understand why! Trippy Folk Dirge if my memory serves correct called LIFE (sold my copy in the early 90s so memory not what it was) If they anit white then the Pope anit Catholic :-)
  11. I seem to remember its an Old smoothie Searling toon, his Rock Candy Cover-Up. B side is an ear opener - prepare yourself! Still a great toon and released in 1972, wasnt this on Detroit label founded by Scott Campbell and labelmates inc. Iggy Pop, MC5 to name but 2???
  12. Ok well the only Modernish versions that have slipped past by my player in recent years are Mike Mcdonald; Paul Carrack and Steve Tyrell, all good versions but for me the one is Gloria Gaynors version that I used to spin in the Starlight Romm Morecombe allnighters in the 80's - now theres a TOON!
  13. For me its when I attempt some side splits and halfway down realise I anit 18 anymore - that REALLY makes my face screw up!!!!!!! I'll get my coat lol
  14. Wasn't this a legit reworking done by Charles Diamond in the late 70s to cash in on its popularity on the scene? I know tha backdoor Kenny and i both made a mad dash for it at the Dome(?) many years back and current value approx £100 and think rarenorthernsoul.com have one. (oooh yes they do just checked) *having read Gillys post below did I get this wrong? Is it the reworked one you were asking about???
  15. I'll tell you who has a shit load of pics from Wigan and beyond and thats the great Graham Barbour (he of doddgy headbands abd the 'thumpy hands' spins!) I last bumped into him some 10 years ago(?) where he was telling me he was running survival courses of some sort up in the Lake District but he and his brother defo have 100s of great pics over the years. Now if you could track him down then you'd have enough for a proper book of pics that would show the scene as was. Just a thought.
