  2. promoters point of view ; I've run a Soul night in Bridgwater for the last 12 years. It's only a pokey little night, but we've had to move at least once, because the original place was just too small to fit everyone in. But # 1 criteria in picking the venue was making sure it was away from the main town centre, and with loads of safe parking; ie so we never ever get any walk-ups once the pubs close. That and having a solid base of sussed up South west Soulies who would quickly sort out any numpties and berties who think it's all ok to come in an pratt about and potentially mess the night up. And if they don't sort it, then some of their blokes will ! pete

  8. The money is one thing, but with regard to the rating, I wouldn't sweat it mate I.M.H.O., I'm totally confident buying from someone with a 99 % plus rating, we all know there are nobbers out there that sellers really can do nothing about.
  9. loved the deserved, but belated, coverage of Bobby Bland by our Broadcasting Corp.; but I found this almost impossibly sad to watch, just as it was completely unmissable too. the guy talked likes he sang - hear tbreaking all the way through been a bit obsessed with this guy since I first heard his voice [ walking up the stairs at the Pendulum in Manc on the Friday night I first went there and heard 'Call on me' ] . collected his stuff ever since - played them out lots too [ but now I wish I'd played more ] what a singer, doubt we'll ever see the like ? pete
  10. a big fave oldie at Soul Nights @ Bridgwater for the last 12 months, and the Newquay weekender too ! maybe it's a cider thing ? pete
  11. I don't know enough to give an authoritative answer to this.....but I remember my head hurting as I tried to follow when someone was discussing the dodgy Salvadors and the discussion went something like ' not so much bluey green, more of a greeny blue ! Or was it vice versa. Anyway, good question, look forward to it getting some useful [ and on thread ] answers, unlike mine.
  12. correction !! it was ' foolish girl ' by the Tiaras, not ' surprise ' note to self....pay attention when you do your playlist ! pete

  14. Outstanding inst. What came first...did the Stones rip off the riff from this for 'satisfaction ' , or vice versa ? sorry to intrude on the sale/ thread - hope no offence - a marvellous 2 sider pete
  15. Thanks for the interest, and bids. Now sold.
  16. anyway.....back to the thread any offers??? , good home needed, you don't want to see these beauties broken up and sold in a local boot fair, they were collected together, grew up together, and only know each other so get feckin bidding
  17. OK, maybe they weren't the best ever hi-fi, but at 16 [ yes all 16 ] double lp's with 8 tracks a side, they're an interesting bit of our history. [ That's 16 x 2 lps x each side x 8 tracks = 512 tunes. ] And the sleeve notes are worth a mention too, Dave Evison's sleeve notes on Vol 1 was worth the price alone. Come and get these memories ! All complete with covers in ex or minty looking condition Job lot - offers over £50. Will close this Sat 25th at 2-00pm. Postage will be at cost, but I'm sure with all the dayers / weekenders / soul nights we go to we'll likely be able to meet and hand them over.
  18. Topics on NCS seems to nudge 4 figures [ US $$ ] quite easily ?
  19. spine tingling music RIP Mel Britt. pete
  20. I think [ but don't beat me up ], this was one of Nige Shaw's big BIG faves, and that's why I always associate it with him Didn't originally buzz off the record really, but grew to love it big time from his infectious enthusiasm - is that just me or has anyone else experienced the same [ any would be pedants - I don't just mean Buddy Smith here, I mean the general theme of being ' infected ' by someone' s enthusiasm ! ] but really, Nige Brown.....need you to confirm I've not this got arse about elbow ??? pete
  21. that Willie + M.M.'s is a fantastic record - went down a storm at the Gloucester all niter on Sat [ part 2 is the side to play( imho ) ]
  22. so if I'm following you Pete, the answer is there are no demos after the 'torch' logo was adapted ? Agreed, I've got that bit right ? but I'm still interested, and, let's be honest, probably getting obsessed now, in the mispress. I know someone knows the story, there's always someone who'se forgotten more than I know. So.....the mispress ; how / way / who / where / how many ...............anyone ? cheers pete
  23. Thanks again Steve, and to Soulwolf for the reference to the sleeve notes. Massive respect to Andy Rix, what a piece to have written that will be an enduring record of what happened. Anyone got the information on issues v demos ? And what happened re the misspress ?
