Around 78/79 when wholesaling records, we managed to persuade Phonogram or whoever controlled Mercury to do us a custom pressing of 5,000 x "Moody Woman" on paper labels/solid centre....so last re-issue was way past 71.

Cannot reccomend Major Lance enough - a classic Lance 60's dancer that was stuck in the vaults and I believe never on vinyl until this UK release, and with on flip his slant on "Nothing Can Stop Me" - again a 60's recording not his 70's remake. B side of "Hurting" - Eric & Vikings is the brilliant "My Baby Ain't No Plaything" - Willie Jones, blinding Wylie/Hester. George was A&R man at Sidra and supplied Joe Boy info on Ronnie & Robyn, if I remember correctly they were the son and daughter of one of the investors into the label. Am seeing Glenn tomorrow and will try and get full story.

Yes Crossfire is definitely a bargain and I think The Showstoppers "Gotta Get Closer To My Love" is cheap at £20, it is first worldwide release of the track and not many demos were made, I have just found some mint copies while sorting out old stock as I have moved house.. No Joe Boy is a part time labour of love/hobby although we are planning to give it more of a go in 2009.. But for the last 6 years or so (and also before that on 2 occasions) I have been dealing with Pinnacle on my full time work and am sorry they are gone and that people I know and like are out of work. The problem is that the whole record business model has changed so radically.

Had queries about the Eric & Vikings on Kool Kat...yes they are all the original issues, I am sorting out old stock and found some, same applies to Frankie & Jonny and Frank Beverly & The Butlers, only got few Crossfire left which is why cheap.

I was surprised on the Tuff City "The Northern Souljers Meet Hi-Rhythm" LP to read that tracks released on Detroit labels by Appreciations, Master Keys, Persians, Buddy Lamp, Lee Rogers, Fabulous Peps and Al Gardner were recorded in Memphis between 1965 and 1968 and not in Detroit ...the album is the one with the Don Bryant demos of "A Place in My Heart", "Weak & Broken Hearted" and "Talkin' About That Girl Of Mine". In a similair vein when interviewing George McGregor for The Joe Boy Precisions album he recounted how he took Timmy Willis to Muscle Shoals to get the sound he wanted on "Mr Soul Satisfaction". By the way has anyone for got sale a copy of The Fabulous Peps album Tuff City put out? They only have CD available on web site and I want the vinyl? .

We releaed on Inferno: Gotta Get Closer To my Love - The Showstoppers Good record. Rick Cooper found a white label on US Party Time so it was planned USA release for the 60's, but we were the first to put it out. Being flip side to "Ain't Nothing But A Houseparty" on the Inferno release it sold well too, around 6,000.

We did Girls From Uncle as a tongue in cheek tailor made for Joe Boy. New song sung by Midlands singer Jacqie Williams over "The Spy" instrumental and then the vocal and instrumental mixed down to make the new track.I gave it first spin at Ritz All-Nighter and Guy Hennigan ran over to ask what it was. We had permission from the owner of Swan catalogue to sample the instrumental and paid royalties etc.
