  4. this came on in the car the other day. have had the album for years but all of a sudden it hit me how good this track would be to play out. might start doing that...
  5. glad to see this thread. The Valentines - Breakaway. he definitely sings 'Breakaway... From the hot steaming chunder'. nice!
  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RlrCEbqwOo El Anthony. Huge sense of drama and forboding, then after the strings and the crazy drumming the voice hits -- BOOM.
  7. Ah! Cheers Nev.
  8. This is fascinating. Cheers everyone. Well I'm not going to go 4 figures for the original, that's for sure. I was thinking £500 tops tbh. Thanks for the offer, Toad, I may come back to you on that. for now I'm going to hold out for the first press because that's the sort of stupid thing collectors do, isn't it. Ha ha. I could do worse than track Trouble down, but with all this talk of 4 figs might have to let the dust settle first! Cheers.
  9. Thanks everyone. Got my settings all set up wrong so I've only just seen your responses. SORRY. I saw James t the other day actually. Will hunt him down again. Hope he's feeling skint! Cheers JAKE
  10. Hi, Quite simple really. I'm after a proper original, blue writing. In at least Ex condition, or preferably better. Happy to pay for it. Try me. Thanks, JAKE

  12. 30th June sees the very latest instalment of DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE. And we've got a treat for you in the shape of two fantastic and noticeably smart guest DJs with superb record collections: 'CATFORD' CHRIS DALE and legend in his own lunchtime TONY SMITH. So expect plenty of proper rare soul, dipping into R&B and crossover. Bringing up the rear will be the usual scruffy Herberts, JOEL MASLIN, OLLIE LAILEY and JAKE LINGWOOD. If you've been to DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE before you know what to expect. If you haven't, you really need to sample the particular delights of the Old Nun's Head's 'Famous Pannelled Lounge' - a really atmospheric room above a uniquely friendly pub, whose management really go out of their way to make us welcome. As always entry is FREE and the party runs from 8pm through 'til 2am. For more info, join the facebook group. Cheers! See you there. JAKE

  17. For those who like the way one piece of music leads to another, there is a nice (and large) article by Kevin Pearce on the 'irregular music publication' Your Heart Out, about working out what's behind one of his favourite old records. The following link leads to the Your Heart Out front page. Then select their 'libary' (where it says 'download for free in our library') and download The Archeology of an Abandoned Soul Single as a PDF. https://www.yrheartout.blogspot.com/ It's a long piece, very well written, dealing with all sorts of mad stuff: mod revivial, Kent records, even German disco. Well worth your time, i'd say. I'd love to know what people make of it. Happy reading. JAKE
