Paula Durante is definitely white, and of American Italian extraction; I met her and her Producer / Manager Tommy Calandra many years ago. On the 2 8 x 10 black and white 60's photos I have of her she looks like Helen Shapiro etc, complete with Beehive etc. There is in fact quite a funny story re her ethnicity. We agreed to meet on the car park of some Burger King or similar. A while later a car matching the description of hers appeared but kept driving around and around. As it turned out later, she was apparently looking for and expecting a white Englishman and I was expecting a black American woman.lol. A Lovely lady and a good friend of Holly Maxwell.

Motown 20th Anniversary Unplayed DEMO box set with badge.
Colouredman posted a topic in Record Sales
Unplayed DEMO box set with badge: £200. -
Exits: Another sundown in Watts: Kapp WD. Unlike most copies of this record, this is in beautiful condition; mint minus, and it's thick vinyl not a styrene copy, which again is unusual. There is small writing in bottom half right quadrant of the label which looks like some kind of catalogue number, but it doesn't really detract from the label look. I've got a photo of the label if anyone needs to see it. £700.

For sale: Kim Weston Do like I do / Marvelettes: Uk Tamla Motown Demo: Mint unplayed. £150. Two great sides. This is mega rare; it only came out as one of 20 singles in Motowns 20th Anniversary Box set, in mid 80's,and demo Box sets were almost impossible to get, even then. plus; same on issue: Mint unplayed: £75.

Only just seen this thread. For the doubters.... I can confirm the following: 1. The acetates are absolutely 100% original! 2. I know this coz they came from legendary producer Sammy Lowe via me. 3. I tracked him down and met Sammy about 25 years ago in New Jersey, and bought a whole bunch of great things off him, including these and other things. 4. The acetates and some of the records were in an old vinyl rack with no sleeves on them, in Sammys basement music room. 5. A brilliant guy who by the way was a neighbour of the legendary Mike Terry. Sammy introduced me to him and that's how I got to meet and interview Mike; I'd been looking for him for years like everyone else... but in the wrong place (Detroit!). 6. My girlfriend at the time Jacqui Kavanagh and I had a couple of great nights out with Sammy, his younger son Sammy junior, and Laura Greene. sorry to disappoint the doubters but thanks to those who supported the provenance of the acetates. All are legit and some were different versions of those songs. Tim A

I popped in to a 2nd hand shop whilst on holiday in Paphos in Cyprus and spied a whole bunch of 45s on an old bookcase. The records had apparently come from some ex dj, but I got loads of UK Motown, stax, northern low level originals for next to nothing; about 30 records. As for USA; too many to mention, but the ones which come to mind are..... Many years ago I stayed for a few days with the legendary record hound John Hilliard in LA. Day after day he took me out to different places he knew had records. One day he took me to a launderette which had boxes of 45's, including quantity of Del Val and Kris 45s in boxes on top of the washing machines. But the best was the day he took me to a 2nd hand furniture shop in LA. The only record in there was lying alone and forgotten on the seat of an old chair..... The Oracles I ain't got time on OM!! Well pleased! Butch and I, on a trip to Chicago spent time in Old Bill Wells record shop. He was related to those who ran the M PAC records set up. He had boxes of records on the floor and his little white dog used to go around pissing on them all....nice! Anyway one day we ventured further behind the scenes to find records untainted by his dogs scent and found 2 copies of the Ultimations when it was still a relatively hard and sought after Stafford record, and an Alice Clark....in his dried up SINK!!!! Those were the days!!!

Lee David ... Temptation Is Calling ... Blue Eyed ?
Colouredman replied to Sunnysoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Just for info: it isn't 'rubbish' about the song originally being cut for Marvin Gaye!! I had that info from Jimmie Briggs himself. If there's accurate info out there from a more credible source than the guy who arranged and wrote it, then great, shout up, let's hear it. Other than that being the case, maybe not a great idea for 'some'to pour scorn on it all. The reference mentioned came from the back of a fanzine I produced about 20 years ago. The info I had from Jimmie Briggs was that he was black. -

Apparently, after the Wheel they said Northern would die off. Similarly after the Torch they said the Northern scene would end. After Wigan they said it would never be the same again and would die. They said Stafford was the beginning of the end. Hmmmm? Well somethings not quite gone to plan, coz apparently now there are more Northern devotees than ever before, regardless of age. Plus now we have a scenario which didn't exist in Wheel, Torch, Wigan or Stafford times; it's now a global, worldwide phenomenon!!! Furthermore figure this; it's the most enduring music-based subculture ever, bar none! Everything changes and evolves, and the Northern scene is no exception. In years to come there may not be a scene as we know it today, so what. At the Wheel you figure that no one would have thought that collectors in 2016 would want to pay 4 and 5 figures for a northern record, but here we are. At the Torch someone would have suggested you'd ingested a shade too many chemicals if you'd have said that Americans currently want to find rare soul more than any other genre, or that there would be northern collectors in Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Japan, etc etc etc. So don't break out the black suit for Northern's funeral just yet; coz it's definitely not over yet.... It's just different, and evolving, and will continue to do so. Finally if you think not, consider this; worst case scenario, there is no scene in years to come and our collections end up in 2nd hand shops and boot sales. Someone picks up a bunch of these strange records with big holes in the middle and funny looking labels. They take a chance on a few and realise there's something quite catchy and infectious about them and that there's an identifiable 'sound' to them all. Next thing you know they start lookin out for more with that same sound and start to collect them, then find ways to dance to them, then look for others with similar tastes....... Sound familiar???????
