Never out of the play box.....

I'll be delivering up another Creative Soul session on Soul People on Sunday 13th, so if you're up for a truly across the board session of great soul music on Sunday morning, then get your ears around the telly box, Sky channel 0129, or plug yourself in to the web via www.solarradio.com I'll be playing everything from current and future Lifeline spins to new release soul ......and just about everything in between, from the deepest to the toughest.

Len, your 'dilemma' seems to be all in your head, you still enjoy going to soul events (great to see ya at Soul Essence by the way), and I know you're still passionate about hearing fresher tunes, so it's not that you're bored of the whole thing.... you just need to find some balance, and get your priorities right. You can't beat yourself up about cutting down on the time you spend at soul nights, when you have a young family. You'll never, ever be able to replace time lost with your family, but you absolutely will be able to catch up on time lost on the 'scene'... it's not as though it moves that fast nowadays anyway.... The time to be concerned is when you think you'd rather go fishing, or get a hankering for a Hornby in th attic. See ya at Sam's 90th...

Nice to know.... I'd always assumed that the Cactus design was the first press for no other reason than it looks better. Glad to know that my boring yellow label copy is the first press.

Wrongcrowd replied to adamt's topic in Look At Your Box
I think the entire press of ther Four Sonics + One release must have shipped to the UK then Lorraine.... 100's of them. Do you recall how well this 45 sold in the US ? I remember reading somewhere that you were the + One on that recording.... is that correct ? -

Don't know how I missed 'Cloud Of Sunshine'.... I've been standing in the corner since playing it this morning...
-
You're right, they did, though I think the numbers were down on the last one. The original weekenders had the right attitude and ethos, but the music policies shifted to cater for the lowest common denomination expectations...and the soulful teapot stalls were in abundance for the third and all following events..
-
Agree with you on "Woman" it's a magical track, and I used to play it on 45 at crossover/modern nights a few years back. Definitely worth more attention I'm gonna have to revisit the LP on Sutty's recommendation though....

Great double-sider... hardly ever turns up.

Ian Levine Solid Soul Sensations Podcast 3
Wrongcrowd replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
I listened to the full show whilst driving to and from London this afternoon..... and I have to say that the return journey's listening was just a tad better than that suffered during the outward journey. Ian's take on what constitutes 'Northern Soul' leaves a great deal to be desired, as does his understanding of what records can genuinely be considered as 'unknown'. For sure there were some tracks included that I'd never heard before, but quite frankly I wouldn't want to hear them ever again, given that they were in the main a mix of middle of the road pop and pop/country trash. Some of these records Ian was describing as the best he's ever had, which given the tunes he played at his Mecca peak, seemed to be quite a desperate attempt to convince himself and listeners of a quality that was clearly missing There were some great records played too, but they were fairly well known, and as Dave said, his absence from the scene has caused a significant gap in his knowledge of the music played between '76 and today. It was frustrating to hear him constantly banging on about his play list being unknown, and his comments of amazement that these 'unknown' records had remained unknown until now. His 'upto to 4 figure' 70's tunes were all quality records, but very well known, and might just have amounted to 4 figures when added together. He really needs to get his feet on the ground to appreciate that the scene wasn't placed on hold until he reappeared. -
Don't Pity Me Sung In French (Joanie Sommers Song)

The one and only...... -
You'd have to wonder why P&P would release the Henry Brooks 45 and both of the Florence Miller 45s in the mid-70's. They all sound far too dated to have had any hope of commercial or club appeal for that period.
