I can't believe you even listened to it Steve.....you'll never get that time back you know
-
I used to swap tapes with Chris during the early 80's, and still have them somewehere. They were definitely stand out tapes with plenty of quality, much as has already been mentioned, and I remember them including Eddie Daye & Four Bars, Andrea Henry, Bobby Wisdom, Jesse Davis, Billy Floyd, Betty Wilson... I'll see if I can dig them out at the weekend, and post the listings. Back then I'd see Chris DJing most weekends between Stafford, Queen Vic, Wolverhampton, Leicester Oddfellows....always a quality set.

Micky was certainly a colourful character, there was no danger of missing him in a crowded room. A top bloke, with a real ear for the music, and so funny, whether you could understand what he was saying or not. We'll definitely miss him, and the scene will be a queiter place for the loss. Condoloences and love to Annie. Cliff & Nat

Just maybe you're not going to the right places....

Peggy March.....come on give her some credit. The likes of Peggy March and tunes of that ilk were the blue taper that lit the breakaway Rare Soul scene's fuse. It was the playlist reliance on bland pop records by DJs that should have known better that caused all-nighters like Stafford to raise the bar and get back to the real deal of progressive, real soul...... ...and for that we should all be grateful to Peggy

Couldn't have put it better.... the fact that this 45 appears as a 'want' 20+ years after Ion played it to those that didn't take a 'break' is testament to how fast new travels, and what a quality tune this is. Hardly like to tick some people's boxes when it's one of those '70's' records played after the Casino closed...but then poor taste has been demonstrated so many times on this site..... -

Three
-
Not one of mine Len, I can't remember who played it at the time, but it was doing the rounds on tapes for quite a while before Bretby.
-
Agree Brett.... this has been played out for 25 years+..... strewth...!!
-
It used to be a regular spin at Bretbty.... but well worth a few more plays...too good to keep on the shelf
-
Unknown due to the scarcity, though a handful of copies surfaced last year.....Awesome 80's soul that I've been playing out for years.
-
Wow!! £250..... somebody bagged a bargain.....the only other copy I've ever seen for sale.
-
Another point of arguement, but nothing new or persuasive. Any arguement that defends a record being played on the basis if being Northern Soul, rather than Soul, is already lost on me I'm afraid. Why do you feel the need to be so agressive when others don't agree with your limited opinions on musiic ?
-
Why would you need to understand a genre of soul msuic before you can form an opinion on the quality ? It's pretty poor arguement in defence of a pretty poor tune. If you really understand soul musc, then you'll understand that Robert Plant isn't a soul singer, and the track isn't a soul record.
