  1. I thought the XL release was legend.....never, ever seen one I always found Lou Roberts to be a bit on the cheesey side, though "She's Not Mama's Little Girl" on Sounds Of Memphis is a superb tune
  2. Hard to believe that this is even up for debate, two records at complete opposite ends of the soul scale. Arthur Willis is without doubt a proper soul record, and Joe Jamma is an awful Chicano wannabe that completely fails to find any soul footing.....just my opinion...but I know I'm right And for what it's worth Mr DArcy...you're way over the top at 30% Right, can we have the next two contestants....DJ Genesis vs Robert Tanner perhaps, it's just about as relevant
  3. ...same old, same old.... Big tune whilst you were taking your "rest"
  4. Hi Kev, yep, you're right the boot has a very wide dead wax, with moulded label. The original has a stuck on label, with a depression about 0.5cms towards the contre hole.... ....so that's the anorak stuff dealt with...more importantly, Elevator Song is a great tune, used to play it regularly in the days before mid-tempo Northern was relabelled as crossover

  8. Yeah, Mr. DArcy's never had an ear for anything past '69, Anne Sexton on Impel 30 quid and Earl White Jr for a tenner bagged from his sales box back in the day Still, I let him have a Jimmy Mack on Palmer for 75 so it wasn't all one way traffic

  12. ...see now you're just being silly...
  13. There's one born every minute....the really sad thing is that the guy's probably looking forward to DJing with it
  14. Trev I'm really impressed, you've got capital letters, and even full stops. When are you having space bar lessons
  15. Ok Pete, whilst Keanya Collin's voice isn't up there with Linda Jones, she can certainly hold a note or two, when she belts out "....you're something else, I can't stand..." then you know she 's got a talent. The production is subtle and classy, and not untypical of the early 70's Chicago soul of the time (Lovelites etc.) from guys like Johnny Cameron, Carl Davis, Willie Henderson...and of course it's got a beat, so I won't debate that, and as for the lyrics, they're no Purlitzer prize winner, but they tell a simple story over a nice enough melody, nothing too cheesey. I can understand why some might not like it, but come on , it hardly qualifies for your list of pop tunes, it's a soul record for a start.
  16. What was that bloody awful Mickey Mouse Concerto thing, and about the same time there was that Esperanto dirge.....Lord only knows what music market they were aimed at, but welcomed with open arms on this crazy scene by DJs of the day
  17. Come on, Hammie, it's absolute garbage, right down there with The Carstairs and Z.Z & Company
  18. I'm afraid you've got yourself a bootleg there.
  19. Cheers So that would explain why Motown wouldn't have released a Fantatstic Four cut
  20. I think it was the going rate - I had to pay 30 for my Lou Pride on Suemi....outrageous
  21. Ah, there you are Rob, I thought you might have some light to shed on this He didn't mention a cut by the Fantastic Four then
  22. It's the Chris Columbus version.....just ahead of Billy Ball & Upsetters, but you can't beat Archie Bell IMO
