  1. Can't believe you're seriously suggesting Don't Give Up as a substitute for I'm Yours...... .....nowhere near the same league IMO....
  2. You're right.....Diplomats became the Skull Snaps. with a brief interlude as the Four Puzzles, and then changed their name after their time with GSF to the Fantastic Puzzles.... They backed Tony Drake on Let's Play House, but weren't credited on the label......so I guess that's the tour connection...
  3. Strewth.........you are touchy aren't you .....I didn't say that you only liked Northern, and you're right, if I had then I'd wear the pompous badge. Ok, so if you like Northern, modern, deep, funk, crossover, soulful house, jazz, jazz-funk and deep disco as I do....then I apologise for being over presumptious im my take on your trashing a really great soul tune like Larry Houston...otherwise my comment stands.... ..
  4. You're unlikely to like the same records as me 'cos my taste goes beyond Northern...... .........there's plenty of tunes on here I don't like.....but I wouldn't write them off as "rubbish" just because they don't fit into my world......
  5. Of course it's ok to play.............. ..............if you're a plastic soul DJ....
  6. Are you referring to Angie Stone....I Wish I Didn't Miss You ?
  7. Absolutely agree with you...USOS was a top night...great to see you and Tony there..
  8. ...such as Mark ?
  9. ...proper soul.... ....if you don't get this, then......
  10. Let's be honest, the reason that everyone went to USOS last Saturday was to be treated to great, rare soul......I'd guess that most of the attendees desperately avoid local, plastic soul nights that have real diffuculty distinguishing Duffy/Third Degree from real soul..........so why would you ever dream of playing Mercy to a real soul crowd at a rare soul venue ......there's no excuse for it... ..........and as for trying to justify a play on the grounds that the scene (can we use that term today.... ) has always played new releases.........yes, it has, and quite righly too IMO...but they have to be SOUL tunes........and just because some really dodgy DJs have played 100's of pop tunes in the past, when they should have known better...........doesn't mean that it's ok to carry on in doing so.....were older, and I'd hoped wiser than that.... I'm not saying I don't like it....it's ok in a Human Bienz, nothing to do with soul whatsoever kinda way......but a soul record ?.......Nope...
  11. ...Im waiting for the thread.....Soul Source Threads that make you think why the hell would anybody want to start that thread.....
  12. The Eddy Jacob's Exchange was well played in the mid 80's...covered up at the time I seem to recall, but can't remember what it was covered up as.
  13. Nope, John Richbourg picked up Ann Sexton for SS7 directly after the Impel issue of Gone Too Long (which by the way I still have...thanks Tes), so she only had one release on Impel. I've never seen any other label for I Still Love You than the multi-coloured one, though for years I was convinced that they were 2nd issues, so bought a WD to be certain... ....and yep, they're both great sides.

  15. That's where I'd picked the information up from. assuming that Jeff and Jim had confirmed their research, but you're probably right the two groups may not be connected. I've not been able to find any details of group line up after searching the net for an hour or more.
  16. No Mark, Vera's equally as relevant as most other areas of discussion raised on this thread. I'm sure someone will be able to identify connections between Vera's contribution to the war effort and the scene (which apparently dosn't exist anymore ) or with some real effort find another obscure tangent or two to link her to Johnny Rotten or the Labour Party of the '80's, and an excuse to rattle on about their formative years, meandering through various fashionable fads. Now that Vera's gone overground, I think her scene will fall away to small, local pockets of ale drinkers reminiscing about the good old days of rationing, the blitz, and her rare 78s.....nothing like the huge central, single scene nights between 1939 and 1945.....
  17. I've always reckoned the Revilot release to be pretty tough to find in mint condition, and I'd value it at 60-80 quid....never much cared for "A New Day Begins" though, the other side "I'll Wait"is far more soulful IMO.....
  18. Very sneaky indeed....if it's any consolation, Nat thinks things addressed to me belong to her.... ... I'll send the next one addressed to Tony so's you can get your own back....
  19. Strewth....not again.....
  20. Awesome soul from a great and under acknowledged group......good to hear that you're planning on a compilation CD....will it include their Pride releases without Mike, and is there any unreleased material ?
  21. JC can you PM me details too, since I'll be in Barcelona from Friday...cheers
  22. ....oooer....careful Ken, you cheeky moo....
  23. ....sounds intriguing...... ......is it a conspiracy theory....
