  1. I remember it being played at the time, and I'm quite disturbed and ashamed to say I thought it was ok.. ...but discotrons had that effect.. ..30 years on though, it's bloody awful.........it's obviously been speeded up, which might explain why it sounds so bad.....there could be a half decent voice in there at the right speed.....anyone care to pitch it down to see if she can really sing....
  2. IMO....I can really only see free nights impacting established nights were the music policy is the same, and generally an oldies, safe plays night....the differentiator then become the cost of the night out.. Otherwise punters with a more progressive taste are a lot more savvy and selective...travelling for the DJ line up and music policy, and then entry cost is not a primary concern..........
  3. Is the reminder for Dean or me.........
  4. You might want to consider Donald "Crazy Legs" Austin - You Want It, You Got It, from the '73 Eastbound album EB 9005.....big tune at Cleethorpes/St. Ives during the mid 70's....
  5. Also released in UK on a Phongram promo 45 EP.....
  6. PM'd you on playability..can't account for ropey decks... Offer on Volumes currently at 100.
  7. Another mixed bag of across the board soul, and more bargains to be bagged. Most of the 45s listed I'm selling for a mate, and so not an awful lot of room for price haggling, especially on the rarer items, though offers may be considered.... Usual deal on condition grading - all graded as VG++ are in great condition, not the usual beaten up quality that VG++ usually gets you from eBay... PM to reserve or request sound files, information etc. Little Melvin & The Boleros - Jealous Lover - Valarie Ex 300 Superb and in-demand crossover tune in glorious stereo.......... Blue Steam/Formula 12 - Where Is She? - Catamount WD VG++ SOLD Another great crossover tune....double sided promo Volumes - I've Never Been So In Love - Garu - Offers Awesome uptempo group soul from San Antonio..proper Northern. It's a real shame but this copy has an edge warp, and it jumps 2 or 3 times on the intro...and I know it's not good record playing form....but it plays perfectly with a 10p sitting on the cartridge arm of my 1210....other than the edge warp it's a great copy, so reasonable offers accepted until 6pm next Sunday on this basis. OFFER PRICE CURRENTLY AT 150 Ringleaders - Baby, What Has Happenned To Our Love - M-Pac Ex 200 One of the classiest 60's sides to come out of Chicago.. Voltaires - My, My My Baby - Bacone VG++ SOLD Demand and at long last recognition rising for this great tune.. The Servicemen - Sweet Magic / Connie - Chartmaker VG+ (some very light scuffs, NAP) 900 Awesome West coast double-sider and reactivated tune for Butch... Marion Stewart - I Must Be Losing You - R WD EX 250 This is the copy to get...rarer promo on vinyl.. Jesse Fisher - You're Not Loving A Beginner - Way Out VG++ 100 Another current in-demander.....multi-coloured label copy Living Color - Thank The Lord For Love / Gotta Strange Feeling - Madhatter VG 50 Yellow label, first issue...VG copy but plays great.. Tammy Wayne - Have A Good Time - Bang WD VG++ 75 Stormer....great vinyl copy too... Eddie Hill - I Can Hear You Crying - Ge Ge VG+ Small WOL 40 Great uptempo Detroit soul... Frances Nero - Keep On Lovin' Me - Soul VG++ 100 The Theo-Coff Invasion - Lucky Day - Dearborn VG+ 50 Classic Detroit instrumental.... Ben Monroe - Broken Home - Dakar M- 20 Why this isn't played out, I'll never know - top quality 70's The Spartans - I Don't Need Another Lover / Forget Her Name - Era VG+ SOLD Great mid-tempo group soul PM to reserve, get info, soundfiles, label scans etc... Cheers..
  8. Clara Hardy has and always will be a quality, stand-out tune, and one of the classiest Detroit tunes to have turned up over the last 20 years in my book, and the fact that more than few have turned up recently won't change that. It'll be a real shame for a tune of this quality to be relegated to the shelves for reasons solely based on rarity and value..... There's a few current "rare" spins that are played on scarcity rather than quality....
  9. Could be likely that Teri De cut a deal with Fontana and Minit to dispose of the local label release stock within the lease arrangement to push all 45 sales through the major labels......
  10. Blue label actually Alfie (so is the green label track you were asking me about on Facebook ??)...I've only ever seen two copies....mine, and one I sold to Andy Dyson....though they were two different label designs...so other copies must be out there
  11. So do a lot of people......
  12. It's the same track as High Society on USA, I think there may be a clip in Refosoul...
  13. Can't see the image you've posted Russ..... Value on this I'd say 50-75 for a promo, and 50 quid more for an issue...maybe..
  14. Steve Smith played it at every opportunity during the 80's....Stafford, Bretby, in fact anywhere he was let loose behind the decks...
  15. Yeah, it's very common on Chicago 45s...we'd always called it "Chicago grease"....good to know there's a reason for the need to us gallons of isopropyl over the years..
  16. I'm all for playing new release soul where the quality warrants, but I'm with you there mate, it's a passable tune, but average at best.....plenty of other tunes to play..."front of box", I don't think so...
  17. Awesome is a word that's used too often...but if fits with this incredible tune. ..maybe a little too slow for a crossover play, but I've played it out during early doors sessions. There are issues, and they are definitely rarer than the promo copies, you very rarely see them. The Houston Outlaws were rumoured to be Archie Bell & The Drells...don't know what the foundation to that was other than the obvious Houston connection....anyone ??
  18. Best comedy radio programme in years....the music's not bad either....
  19. Wow! That's amazing Paul, and I have to say far more interesting than the same old regurgitated arguements that spin around on the site.....does Oregano grow indoors...that's my favourite...
  20. I've just checked the website............and I know I haven't seen Dean for a few weeks...he seems different...can't put my finger on it...maybe added a few pounds....???
  21. I never went to the Torch...far too young, but I've heard great stories and it must have been an amazing experience, with so many great tunes getting first plays there. Can you guys post up some play lists of Torch sounds since I've never been able to distinguish between what was played at the Cats, VaVa and actual Torch plays...........and anyone know who first played the Nite-Liters - K-Jee, which I'm told was a Torch tune...??
  22. I loved Inside America back in the day too....and still find turntable time for it occasionally...another left-field spin....anyone know who first played it ??
  23. Nice shout Russ....yep absolutely hammered in it's day and for a few years after too....still sounds great to me though...
  24. '71, right so pretty much a new release spin at the Torch then....amazing how the scene has move on and away from contemporary music... MFSB's version was a pretty good stab at a masterpiece, and showed how fresh K-Jee sounded quite a few years on, though it finishes quite a distant third IMO after the Nite-Liters and New Birth..
  25. That should be interesting.....I'll make sure I'm webbed in for this one...
