  1. Fantastic... IMO her 20th Century output was pure soul quality, and took her to another level....great to see a live clip.
  2. I agree that wanting a tune badly can help you lose perspective (suffer from it myself), but if the buyer (or other bidders for that matter) wanted it that badly, why wouldn't they check eBay as well....
  3. It never ceases to amaze me that some bidders on JM's auctions seem to be completely oblivious of the "going rate" and don't keep an eye on eBay goings on...
  4. No. It's a legitmate Breakthrough release, with a different flip.
  5. How typical of you to take comments personally, and to twist words to suit your own ends. May come as a surprise, but It's not all about you so get down off your ego. I'm pretty sure I'm able to distinguish between dull and exciting James, but I fail to see what point you're trying to make on my comment. I'll help you understand what I said......both versions are excellent.
  6. That's really sad news, Alan was a great, friendly, and hugely knowledgeable guy, and he'll be greatly missed. Deepest condolences to Judy and his family.
  7. Depends on which version you're asking about, since it had two releases with different recordings. The first release (1003) has a rawer '60's sound, and fetches around 300, the later release (1004) was re-recorded and released in '72 with a more polished production (to my ears anyway), which fetches 200ish. I haven't compared the '72 version with The World's Funkiest Band's version, but from memory, they sound the same.
  8. Both Towanda Barnes' and Sam Williams' versions are outstanding examples of quality soul music (or any other genre for that matter), and IMO it's impossible to make a call between, they both stand out in their own right as tremendous productions in arrangement and vocal quality. I've never been able to decide which is better since they are both so different, so I don't.........why should anyone feel the need to ?
  9. That's intriguing, an a new one one me....I'd always understood that the LENDO copies were re-issues... ...so what's the regional market theory then Dave ...?

  12. Gonna have to disagree on the authenticy here...this looks like a bootleg to me, you can see a sheen from the gloss label, and the print is not as pronounced as on the original label. Back to the question though....value-wise 200+ easily, especially now it's picking up 2nd time round plays...
  13. Nice tune, it's from the 'Still Together' album, better known for 'Baby Don't Change Your Mind', though 'Love Is Always On Your Mind' is my favourite.....bit long at 10:25 for club spin though....
  14. Great selection Des.....everyone's top drawer 70's soul IMO.....buying blind on any of these is no risk at all....
  15. "Duped"...........If you want quality soul mate ...you gotta pay the price.... Easily 300 quid+ in today's record world, and $1,000,000's in quality terms...
  16. Some more recent, top of the playlist CD tracks that have got me all hot and bothered............... Three great tracks from the Soul Unsigned album.... Richard Alexander Davis - You've Changed The Constituents - Love Candy Cream - Give Love A Chance Vaneese Thomas - Soul Sister Vol. One....a peach of an album, all cover versions really well put together...the stand outs for me are.. Hypnotized I Had A Talk With My Man The Magic Of You Comfort Me Marcell & TheTruth - Symbols....another great album from these guys.. Lost In The Moment - absolutely awesome....!! I'll try to get some sound clips up later...
  17. Kev, you seem to have a very fixed view on a general demise of soul CD sales and broadly it can be summed up on two key reasons - 1. The availability of free downloads, legal or otherwise. 2. Freebie promotional venue CDs. Whilst I think that you have made some valid points, and I agree they will have affected sales is some way, but I really doubt that these reasons have impacted quality CD sales to the degree you imply. The promoters of CDs that push out the same tired old tracks, time and time again with out any, or any worthwhile liner notes are bound to be impacted greater than say Kent, Grapevine or Soulscape. The effort that the quality guys put into their CD releases through research, artist and producer interviews, together with great mastering are I'm sure, major contributors towards their success, along with the confidence that the artists and publishing companies are getting their dues. If things were really as bad and for the reasons you describe, I hardly think that Ace/Kent would have the size of catalogue they have today, and continue to work on additional CD projects at the rate they do. If you want to identify the reason for failing CD sales, I think you should look closer to home.
  18. What amazing hypocrisy....'cos we all know how legitimate Goldmine CDs were... The sad story of a bootleg CD operation going out of business on the basis of free venue CDs is touching, and just a little bit ironic.....
  19. I'm not sure what's worse....the blatant bootleg selling or the cheesey site....DJ Service Department, complete with naff voice overs.....
  20. If we're including Goldmind Salsoul productions, then my vote goes to Love Committee - Tired Of Being Your Fool.....pure class....
  21. You seem to have missed quite a lot....Lolleata Holloway, Eddie Holman, Double Exposure, to name a few...
  22. I posted something on the recent bootleg thread a couple of weeks back, this guy has to be know to quite a few on here. Burning a CD or two for your mates is one thing, but this is blatant bootleg marketing.
  23. Just another bootlegger with no morals looking to make a fast buck at somebody else's cost............
  24. Bargain at 350..............
  25. It's probably a lot more involved than a labour love. Given that DH was in the Temptones, and both he and JO were in the Masters, it's possible that they shared studio time with the Volcanos in the day.
