  1. Gotta say the quality of CDs in this swap is outstanding, and they've made the daily journey to London and back that much sweeter, even the M1 past Luton! Great to see that this swap's moving fast too, at the rate they've been dropping though my letterbox I thought I'd be the last to mail mine out..... but then remembered that Messrs Hampsey and O'Connor are in the happy throng, so that thought soon passed.... Anyway, all mine posted on Tuesday, so you should hve them by today... hope you find something worthwhile...
  2. At this rate Roger you'll be able to get your pension whilst posting the CDs out......
  3. Count me in...... I've given up waiting for the remainder of the Darkside CD swaps...
  4. We all signed up for the "current" swap with an aim to complete by the end of March...by my watch it's almost half past June, and I'm still waiting for 7 CDs to show up..... Jock had plenty of time to complete his CDs, 'cos what else has a Scotsman to do during the World Cup... ...Great CDs by the way......
  5. This site really shows just how polarised views on a track can be. Not surprised about the comments from the usual suspects, but some comments from the more enlightened amongst us have left me wondering.... I don't get how a very soulful and classy track that's been around for donkey's years like Do The World A Favour can be lined up for a such a keyboard kicking.... yeah it might be well past its play by date, and a little tired, but it's still a great tune.....you all should know better and hangs your heads in shame..... ....and if a 45 release puts it on more play lists in Northern rooms.... great, 'cos that's around 4 less minutes of the same old same old and 2nd rate tunes that usually get dished up....
  6. You beat me to it.............just get on with it ya poof

  8. Nope, not arrived with me. Tony's received yesterday though.... top play in my car too...
  9. Amen to that.......... ... and I also agree with you on format... any modern soul DJ's not using downloads are overlooking some seriously great music... if it's the only available fomat then it's as legitimate as vinyl or CD in my opinion (and play box).....
  10. I think you'll find Roger, that quite a few very respectable modern DJs have their roots in the Northern scene, which is hardly suprising (or the very bad thing that you imply) given that the Modern scene has it's roots very firmly planted in the the Northern scene.....ask Colin.
  11. Depends what styles of modern soul you're into, but on the recent release side I'd recommend these - Dynamites feat Charles Walker - Burn It Down - Outta Sight Cool Million - Back For More - Sedsoul Angela Johnson - It's Personal - Dome..... Essential !!!!! Revelations feat Tre Williams - The Bleeding Edge - Decision Tutu Jones - Inside Out Jaheim - Another Round

Have to say it sounds better live than it does on the 45, which is probably the least soulful of their 3 Uni 45s IMO.... Also recorded as High Society, and Velvet Hammer.... I think there's another thread on here that covers their output..
  13. It's been about the best CD swap that I've been involved in on here, the quality has been fantastic, with most avoiding the obvious. By my reckoning there's 9 still outstanding.....
  14. Maybe you'd appreciate them more if they were played on 78... or maybe if you understood soul music.... no offence meant Tes but you really are a prize tw@t... IMO of course...
  15. How can you say that Salsa isn't Jazz ... it's a bit like saying that potatoes aren't vegetables.....
  16. It's not a intended to be soul record Rob.... it's JAZZ Some of us have extended boundaries If there's one thing that Soul Source has made us all painfully aware of, it's diversity of taste.... Anyway, those good people at Sunlight are pretty damned fast, ordered yesterday, arrived this morning... BTW... completely agree with you Sean on the Cappani version... it's awful..
  17. The vocal doesn't do it for me, but the instrumental is very good.... are you sure you listened to the right track ??? Otherwise, each to their own, but surprising for one so enlightened..
  18. Me too Dave... the instrumental is very nice...
  19. ...and there I was thinking that the only difference between a soul night and and all-nighter was the dawn coming up... it seems now that the music has to be different too.... ...and since when has it been compulsory to have banging 60's throughout an all-nighter...
  20. If you'd had stepped off of that pedestal that you seem to have built for yourself Paul, and got yourself to Lifeline last Saturday, you'd have heard plenty of great 70's soul included in just about every set. You seem to see yourself as a champion of new music, and whilst I don't doubt you have a broad, eclectic taste, the drum you've been banging has been about a very narrow style that you believe is missing from upfront all-nighters. This position completely overlooks the great new 60's tunes that have been played, which for a new music advocate, seems to me to be a little limiting. Your main gripe appears to be that your preferred style of music isn't played nearly as much as you think it deserves to be. You then make a ridiculous statement that you wouldn't want your records to be played at all-nighters... ffs make your mind up. You're also wide of the mark on your statement on Lifeline music policy. Tell me another all-nighter venue that plays 60's beat ballads through to soulful house, and every other style and tempo in between in the same room. Whilst the core of the music played there is undoubtedly rare 60's, there's room for all other styles, and DJs a re given a free rein to play across the board. I'm also tired of this small room versus main room debate, it's plainly obvious to everyone that it's far easier to play relatively unknown tunes to a smaller audience, so what's new ? As for your generalisation of big name DJs who in your world don't venture out of their main room comfort, you must know that that's far too broad a statement to hold much credence. I know plenty of main room DJs that also play and spend time in smaller rooms, and relish having freedom that the big floor rooms don't always allow. It must be really frustrating to know that you're right, and everyone else just doesn't get it.
  21. ... always rated this, and whilst the Tempos is decent enough (no idea what you're on Boba), this wins for me..

Having read through the thread it seems to me that the reasons given for falling attendance is complacency, and I'm as guilty of that as anyone. We can all bang on about the venue - lack of seating, dancefloor, entry policy, travel, the magnitude of choice of alternative venues, and the economy, but when all considered (apart from the entry policy) these considerations and gripes have always been around and feel to me to be more like excuses than valid reasons. It's ironic that the fact that the 100 Club has been around for so long that it fuels the expectation that it will always be around, and if you don't get to the next all-nighter, you can always go to the one following. I've been using this excuse for so long now that I can't now recall the last time I went. I'm with Eddie on playlists, I think they provide an understanding not only of the sounds you're likely to hear, but also make a great statement on the music policy. I know it works both ways, and I should probably make an effort to find out, but I have no idea what you, Mick or Joel play currently. The club has always had a great reputation for playing and breaking fresh music, and the size of the venue lends itself to chancing new plays, and it would be a great shame to lose a forward thinking club, there's not nearly enough of them. I think your kick up the arse message has hit home and if we want the 100 Club to be around then we have to give it support. See you on the 22nd...
  23. All CDs mailed today (finally.... ), including copies of Philly Dave's CD for Alan and Mal.....
  24. Agree it's a top tune Roger, it had some small plays when it first turned up way back, and long overdue for some proper plays... been playing it out myself for a short while to some very positive floors and head nodders.... Coffee and CDs should always be kept well apart...though Starbucks often have some nice soulful jazz tunes on their compilations......
