50 Key Landmark Moments In Northern Soul History
Wrongcrowd replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
September 2011 Tes makes a relevant comment on a thread.... hang on, wait a minute, no, that hasn't happened yet... -
Booted at least twice, the mid-70's boot, which was pressed at the height of interest, had both sides of the original. The boot with the Pretenders on the flip is a much later pressing.
-
That's quite right Chalky.... the original has a depressed ring towards the centre.

I remember when Levine DJ'd at Scoey's on Tuesday nights around '73/'74, and I never missed one. I'm not sure when Freddie Chevez was first played, but I remeber being blown away by it on a Tuesday night at Scoey's... school days on Wednesday's were always a buzz about Levine's plays from the night before.
-
It's never a '69 recording Chalky, '79 at the absolute earliest. I'd be very surprised if the orange reissues were more than a matter of hours after the yellow first press. Good to see this picking up a few revival spins though, top quality tune.....

She spent some time down Texas way, and teamed up with Moses Dillard for a couple of tunes.

2011-03-10: The Prestatyn Weekender - March 10th - 14th 2011
Wrongcrowd commented on S&m's article in Event News
Priceless.... IMHO of course.... -
I think we'll find that was sometime after it became a Lifeline anthem......
-
You really are clueless. Since when did rarity define a musice style or genre ?
-
Good to know you can always be relied upon to give a totally unbiased and balanced view.....
-
I found 10 copies in a record store in Memphis a few years back, probably not too long after release. I moved them on for between 30 and 50 quid, and sold the last one on eBay a few months back. If it was intended for jukebox distribution then the press would have been in 1000's, not 100's.... Decent demand for the 45 at the time of release, but tough to find interest a few years on.
-
Some great soul in the last CD trade, so count me in.....
-
Always a laugh to see the quarterly debate on here on the merits and definition of crossover, it never fails to bring out the confused and more often the deliberate antagonists.... and more often that not there's a very, very daft response that just sums up how confused some can be.... Funky type stuff..... it most certainly ain't... The Caesars... non-soul.... are you for real..... The most apt definition of crossover seems to be : very soulful late 60's, early 70's mid-pace 'proper' soul that Northern die hards can't get their heads around... I feel much better now...
-
Just popped in to see what's been going on.... and I know I'm gonna regret responding to this.... But since you asked..... My opinion is that you have very daft and inane opinions... Though to your point, it's an incredible production with sublime vocals, and one the scene's treasures that only those without an ear for quality soul would ever think to question... Just my opinion...

The 8Ts - A Barren Wasteland For Rare Soul ?
Wrongcrowd replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
Although it was released in '81, wasn't this recorded in the '70's and compiled with a whole lot of previously unreleased earlier recordings ? -
The 8Ts - A Barren Wasteland For Rare Soul ?
Wrongcrowd replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
All great tunes listed so far, and I'm sure we could all list a good few more, but the majority of great 80's soul tunes were released '80, '81 and '82, and still held the production qualtities of the '70's. Compared to the soul output from any other decade it will always be a very small list. -
The 8Ts - A Barren Wasteland For Rare Soul ?
Wrongcrowd replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
The quality of soul output in 80's compared to 60's and 70's, and then 90's, 2000's was very poor, and whilst there were some great tunes, they were few and very far between amongst the mostly dreadful synth productions that the decade was obsessed with. Easily the worst decade for real soul during the past 50 years..... The 80's....no proper soul music and Thatcher.... thank God for Stafford and the 100 Club..... -
It's from the Here 'Tis album, 1972. Ann Bogan is just incredible on that track, and it's just about the finest 4 minutes that Harvey Fuqua ever created...... great to see it found a place with you too...
-
The term RARE SOUL was used way before Stafford. By the end of the 70's the term 'Northern Soul' became synonomous with baggy trousered, beer towelled buffoons and was just too embarassing to be associated with......and still is.

It's good to see that you've mended your ways, so apology duly delivered.... can you call off the lawyers, it gets in the way of listening and there's plenty stacking up. Looking forward to the CDs:thumbsup:.... iTunes can be quite evil, when it comes to multiple burning, and I've avoided any further updates. You can get around the limit by copying your finished CD into Realplayer, and copying from there without limit problems......even with a Dell
