  2. This is indeed destruction but not FINE.The real art was within the grooves i crutial fact overlooked.Could accept it if the records are nackered and unplayable but if not well then as Miff said simply WHY?

Seen it on the tube last night looks great, Brill solo from Tommo dancing to Mary Love puts the young uns to shame, although the young uns probably do it in one take
  4. Been like that forever Debbie always get people kissing backsides of top DJs and putting slants on nights for political reasons.Thats why its good to see playlists so you can see what the DJ played and make up your own mind. But as you know i'm sure eventually you get to follow your fave DJs and fave venues cause you no what your gonna get
  5. Is this any connection to the you tube clip THE OBSESSION OF NORTHERN SOUL 3. Tommo dancing to Mary Love halfway through, noticed Casper on there as well.Great film
  6. Eddie Parker--I'm Gone Hesitations--Thats What Love Is

Its a legit U.K release perfectly ok to play.Popsike shows similar prices for Direction Or C.B.S.I just wanted to point out to you that The Direction copy has the added bonus of Chain reaction and looks nicer than CBS.Maybe the CBS was first i don't know for sure but if you want the first release then its prob the U.S Demo you need.
  8. Got in touch with a mate who has the DVD i was talking about and he has brought it round. Its called DANCE DANCE DANCE and has footage from 100club,Leicester,Bradford,RSG.Watched it this morning and the dancing comp looks like its at Leicester, its dated as 27/2/1988.Recognise most of the dancers all regular 80s faces.SOULIE ends up winning after several rounds.Unfortunately he dances right at the back of the floor in green shirt so the camera doesnt pick him out as much as the others but there is a great spot at around 51mins 19 where he launches into floor routine to the track ALL OF MY LIFE.He was a mesmerising dancer great feet 60s or 70s Best i have ever seen.By the way if you want DVD i can send it to you let me Know.
  9. Spot on there the great job you have done on the DVD shows how vibrant the 80s nighters were well done mate.On the other Clips i mentioned i don't have the DVD but remember watching it a few years back Some of the east Mids soulies will know where it was it featured some great dancing from SOULIE aka Mark Ellis,it may have been another Oddfellows comp.I recall the DVD was similar quality to the first cut of the one you did it may have been filmed by same guy.Anyone know out there
  10. Wow these clips have been cleaned up incredible fantastic danceing Tommo a great keepsake for you.I have also seen another DVD from the same time period featuring another great competition.Don't know where it was but it was won by the fabulous dancer SOULIE Mark Ellis. If that one could be cleaened up the same way it would be brilliant . Never went to the Oddfellows venue but did stafford, Clifton Hall and agree the 80s was a great period criminally overlooked by most

And one of the most AUDIBLE and DANCEABLE is LORRAINE CHANDLER--I CAN'T HOLD ON Knocked me sideways when i first heard it

Brilliant post Stevie,Agree that when the Heart jumps in bed with the beat thats when the Soul gets its kicks. Most complete Northern Soul record for me has this perfect combination and thats JUDY FREEMAN--HOLD ON--RCA real shiver material.Although some of the Beat stompers that at first sound uninspiring can be transformed when you dance to them shoulder to shoulder with your mates in a venue that you love, and at this point the heart pours out and soul is generated from the experience ,if you know what i mean Once during a Clifton Hall nighter a guy was rambling on about soul typical mid nighter drivel when all of a sudden he said something that i have since remembered for 30 years. He said SOUL music is raw human emotion in audible form, and NORTHERN SOUL is raw human emotion in danceable form. I have encounted soul in,Stompers,Instrumentals,R&B,Ballads,Crossover, and Modern records, sometimes its all dependent on your mood, company, and state of mind but long may it continue.

Likewise a fave of mine also mate never seems to get spins now though.Do you remember who the DJ at Wigan was who played it.Manships guide has the yellow one a touch dearer than the colured one.Bought mine many years ago early 90s

Any info on this atmospheric track anyone. Was i believe a Wigan spin but maybe first at Cleethorpes. Its a curious one must have been a brave DJ who championed it first. Also my copy is yellow but there is a pink coloured issue as well which one is first and which one is the least common
  17. AWESOME tune this one gets played out still think Pete CASPER has it on his excellent playlist from the last Kings Hall Nighter
  18. Thanks for all these Pete some i remember most i have had to refresh my memory via u tube. couple more i distantly recall FRIENDLY PEOPLE--AINT GOT NOTHING BUT THE BLUES VILLAGE SOUNDS--THESE WINDOWS SHADOWS--MY LOVE IS GONE
  19. Your right lots of early Mecca oldies and Cleethorpes spins became associated with the casino a good example is Rain --Out of My mind which was played at Cleggy first by Poke but which most soulies associate as a wigan sound due to it featuring in this Engalnd What would you nominate as a few forgotten wigan oldies tracks Pete that you think would still punch the floor today
  20. Agreed Steve its a great dancer one of my faves as is the Intros, both a hundred times better than some of the played out oldies that get relentlessly churned out. Found another The Jerms--I'm a teardrop, midtempo moody atmospheric track ain't heard that one in years also
  21. Oh Bat yeh spelling mistake perils of being a night shift worker heads a shed any comments on the records.
  22. Hi Guys Looking through my records came accross a few Casino biggies in their time that never gey spins anymore where i go anyway.Take a look at these 5 for starters do they get any action nowadays all big dancers back in the day. Sweet--Broken Heart Attack--Smash. late casino R.S spin covered i think as Chester Pipkin Wilbur Walton Jr---24 hours of loneliness--123. Bat Brady i think Tojo--Broken Hearted Lover---TEC. Searling again Intros--Stop Look Listen--Jamie. May have been a Russ spin Otis Blackwell--Its All over Me--Epic. Total Stormer Out of those 5 i have only heard Otis Blackwell played recently the others not since the old days.Any thoughts out there on any of em could they stand up today i for one would love to dance to them all again.

  24. Nice one Mossy i'm sure ive seen your Box a few years ago seem to think it may have been at Keele and as you say it was a eye catcher.Back in the day all the top DJs had wooden boxes wonder where they ended up.Remember Ginger Taylor's with the WRONG SIDE OF TODMORDEN sticker in side the lid.

Great record Dave still hear it out regularly at soul nights.Think i'm in the minority as i actually prefere Elsie Strongs version on Finally label which has the instrumental on the flip.
