I started a similar thread a couple of years ago titled UNDERPLAYED UPTEMPO AND UNDER FIFTY. It prompted some fantastic posts full of great records that could be bought for up to 50 Quid.I think £25 is pushing it a bit but there are many still out there for that price. Two i have recently bought in that price range are both great dancers Syl Johnson---Try Me Henry Lumpkin--Soul is Taking Over

Attended one of my fave nights last night and decided to give my Adidas Neos a try for the first time. They were fine to dance in although it takes some getting used to being flat with no heel as such. The venue has a great floor which is talc friendly and i seem to think the trainers would have been too grippy without a bit of talc.
-
WOW bet they have graced some famous floors Billy Nice one

I remember being in a group of 6 lads, all soulies walking to the local Youth club back in the late 70s.We were all wearing our fave shoes at the time for dancing in and we all thought we were the dogs b*llocks great dancers. One of us had Polyveltds, one Brogues, one Pods, one trainers,One loafers, and one with Docs Ms shoes. As we arrived in the que one of the girls shouted at us "Hey Where did you get your Soul Shoes from". All 6 of us looked puzzled not knowing who she was talking to as we all were wearing different dancing shoes. So i piped up and asked. "Which Ones do you Mean and which one of us in your opinion are wearing Soul Shoes".At which point she pointed to my mate Tony and said this cutting line that i remember to this day "His cause hes the only one out of all of you that can dance" By the wayTony was wearing the polyvets, but it just goes to show it doesnt matter what you wear if you can dance

Yeh it all depends on the grip of the sole.I have a pair of Adidas Neo Trainers and like you i tested them at home and the sole seems perfect with just the right amount of slide. With just a bit of talc they slip like mad.I have never danced with them at a venue but may try it soon and take my usuals as back up.
-
Nice one Martyn the WICKED HOOF step sounds impressive
-
Over the years i have used Brogues, and Hush Puppy/Padders type shoes, but never considered trainers.I imagine the extra grip could be fine for the acrobats but must play havoc on the knees and calfs.Must say after many years i have still not found the ideal type shoe yet but if the record grabs you you can dance in OWT i guess
-
It seems to be a trend at the moment to see a lot of dancers wearing trainers.Mostly its the younger guys.It puzzles me surely they are too grippy to dance easily in or are there particular brands that have smoother soles. Can anyone who uses trainers comment on why they prefere Trainers and how they perform on untalced floors.

The 3 from my modest box that i play most times i open it up are These 3 stormers. The Jimmy Robbins i was reminded of in a recent sales thread on here,The Alfreda Brockington i have had for ages, And Betty Harris a fantastic tune that i was put onto by Martyn Bird. Now just need to find a soul night where they get played. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WvB-dTjdME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW3HeGsBT1g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAlQA79R940

Calling All Anoraks - Which Copy Has The Best Sound?

Always thought the Soultown issue of A Little Togetherness --New Younghearts, Sounds a lot clearer and has more punch than the Canterbury release -
Calling All Anoraks - Which Copy Has The Best Sound?

Just Shows you beauty is in the EAR of the beholder. I much prefere the more bassy sound to the Pama release which when played out gives the record a more urgent ,raw and atmospheric sound. The Elf ones are much quieter and Tame in my opinion -
A Dozen Sales ...reduced Even Further..60S/70S Originals

Somebody needs to snap up that Jimmy Robbins an awesome tune -
Thats very True Torture and Mr Creator(Candy & Kisses) are hard to find these days and the prices are rising.Even Melba Moore can be a hard one to bag.One of my faves is the Fashionettes version of Losing control wish that got played out more .I would be more than happy to attend a nighter that played just Kent unissued stuff all night, you would need a couple of shirt changes for that gig.
-
Has the Willie Kendricks--Time Changes Things been released on a Pied Piper single yet and if not is it scheduled for one. What a record, always loved the harmonies of the Metros version but the Kendricks has the Northern Factor
-
Ady The Recent Pied Piper Stuff is awesome. One i would dash out to buy on Vinyl is the Willie Kndricks Version of Time Changes Things. The fantastic unissued stuff you have put out over the years has had an incredible positive effect on the Northern scene i think everyone would endorse that as fact. Keep em coming they are your legasy and its a far greater contribution than the DJs who pump out the same wigan oldies in the same order week after week
