Posting this with the hope that I don't embarrass Rick but I just have to say something . After a few years of trying I finally managed to get an original copy of Johnny Bragg---- Theyre talking about me. I put it up on a playlist on here and it was seen by Rick. Now obviously I know that Rick Scott is a legendary DJ from the Cleethorpes Pier Allnighters but I have never met him personally so what happened next really touched me. Rick sent me a PM to tell me that he had a spare pic sleeve to go with the Johnny Bragg and he was going to send it to me free of charge.I offered to a least pay postage but Rick said no and sent it through to me along with a lovely note. The record is now in my box complete with its sleeve. Now in all my years on the Soul scene this is one of the nicest things I can remember as great as soul people are not many give you owt for nowt As I say I hope Rick doesn't mind me shattering his Hard man reputation but the whole episode gave me a big boost when I needed one so Hats off to a Top Soulman

Patto replied to dthedrug's topic in Look At Your Box
Late 90s early 2000s R&B tunes were firmly entrenched in most playlists. This one i first heard at a Winsford Nighter and i bought one as soon as i could.Never heard it played out since -

Always liked the Elsie Strong version of this on Finally label. It has the instrumental on the flip which is great in its own right.

Hi Guys Just noticed this fantastic track has made its first appearence on You Tube .This is The flip of the Northern Classic Ill Never Forget You.I Have it on the Jamie Demo and for me the Since youve Been My Girl has been ignored for years. Did hear once that it gained a few 80s 100 club spins. -
UPDATE. after talking it over with several DJs whos opinions i respect i have made my own mind up in favour of the Soul Junction 45.I Have purchased one and can confirm its a top quality recording on nice thick vinyl. The 45 as far as i can make out is the first Deffo legit dues paid release. So thanks for all who contributed to the thread and sent PMs Its a real can of worms and over recent years several LP only tracks have come out on legit fist time on 45 releases.A few that come to mind are The Magnificent Men -- Keep on climbing Which has been released on a capitol box set series. There was the UK A B C release of Bobby Hutton-- Lend a Hand which was first on an Album many years previous.Another one i was not sure about was The Hesitations-- Thats What Love Is which was released on a Soul Series 45 after being on the Soul Superman LP of course. So from an OV point of view it can be confusing as some say its got to be the original L P and others say the Orig Legit 45 is fine to play. Im always up for learning and non of us know everything .It can be a bit intimidating asking on here and even thick skinned Hairy arsed ex Miners like me can get over sensitive .But you cant beat talking about records at the end of the day

Tony this one might fit the bill

Thanks Dave if the Grapevine LP cut was good quality i would just play it from there as its the first time it appeared on Vinyl. BUT the cut is poor thats why im asking about the recent 45
-
Thanks for your opinion Chalky.Im not trying to make any rules up just asking for different points of view so i can make up my own mind.I Want to play Bettys record just would like opinions on what is the prefered Format at an OVO night thats all.
-
No problem steve these Tamiflu tablets are making me paranoid.Appologies for the snap
-
Steve im by no way shape or form a Soul police lover .I do DJ at OVO nights and only knowingly spin Originals.I do care what OVO Djs think and as i dont know everything like most so i welcome opinions..I would love to spin the 45 if it were acceptable
-
The thing is guys from an OVO standpoint the Original is on the LP .The 45 is some 40 years later. So if the venue is OVO then regardless of 45 or LP it has to be its first legit vinyl release.Rightly or wrongly this is how many view it .
-
The feedback im getting is thatThe original grapevine LP release is the only acceptable way to play it at an OV night.Real shame about the sound quality if i play it you have to mess about with gain and bass programming on mixer to get half descent results.Tragic that a 45 wasnt put out at the time
