Thought the following that I received from a US Dealer today that I have just bought a Groovettes from would be of interest: Peter, Thanks for the purchase, here is a strange coincidence for you: A person accidentally introduced me to this aging musician, in his late 70's, who had performed in the 1950's, as a guitarist at the old 54 ballroom in south central LA. I went to the home of Bob Reed, who still had his old Gibson guitar, and was still working as a plasterman for celebrity clients. As I sat on Mr. Reed's couch, he told me about his efforts to produce that record by the Groovettes. He had no pictures of them, but still knew of their whereabouts. Incidentally, Bob Reed was also involved with the Melatone label, that produced Lela Martin and the Soul Providers. I gave Mr. Reed's phone number to media disc jockey and LA vocal group expert author, Steve Propes. Steve planned to interview him on his show. Bob Reed is an extremely congenial fellow. He invited me to his farm in Louisiana, where he plans to retire in the coming months. I played his old Gibson, and he shared stories of many of my guitar heroes, including T Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton, Guitar Slim, and Lowell Fulsom. It was just a thrill to find this guy, who was not aware how popular the Groovettes subsequently became in the UK.

Paul, I've known Tony for 35 years and would say it was mostly down to him that I got into NS in the first place and wouldn't want to upset him because I respect him for the huge contribution to the scene he made in and around Cambridge where I lived from 1970 to 2001. I agree that he's got some really nice stuff in his box.........trouble is he doesn't ever try to be progressive and play something different. No offence meant to anyone but the "go out once in a while oldies crowd" might love his spots because they're memory evoking but personally I just wish he'd give some of his other records an airing.

Baz, maybe they really like that same 26 records that Tony always plays. I mean it's such a pain when a DJ is unpredictable and plays something different.

Mar-J's - Got To Find A Way Out - Magic Touch Got this in a trade deal this weekend and didn't realise that although they look identical, there are 2 different versions of this. This one is I am told a rarer first issue and it has definitely got a stronger more prominent piano in the backing.
