This is exactly what I tried to say in a previous post. What I didn't expect was a torent of abuse from people who I had previously respected. I merely said in the post I put up that a neighbour (who is still fairly new to the scene) had gone to a local pub event and felt very alienated. She and her husband were made to feel most unwelcome, stared at and all but ushered out of the door. I personally have not been to a local event since.

Brilliant....... I just need to find my copy now. When I say find my copy, I know where it is in relation to being in storage but from thereon... who knows! Souledtrafford will be chuffed for sure Steve

Alfie Davison - Love Is A Serious Business on Minerva
Soulman replied to Belza's topic in All About the SOUL
Is the Minerva release a boot (I'm guessing so) as I've not seen one. I have a Mercury 45 demo, Mercury issue and a couple of the Mercury 12's, also the 12" of the thing that came out on a kinda beige label which was the 7" mix (can't remember the label name) and also the 7" boot that came from the Leicester are (no names mentioned) in the early eighties?????? Minerva though.... dunno -
I'd forgotten all about it. I have one but don't know where it is (probably in storage still with lots of other stuff). I seem to remember getting it at a Ginger / Tim Brown birthday bash at Tod Cricket Club. Maybe Tim could lay his hands on a copy quicker than I can Steve

Had two copies arrive on separate occasions from the label Try northbroadst@gmail.com for an enquiry Steve -
That's a shame. I have the Jaboth release and the Revere with the picture cover. I've never seen the Paramount release but would like to complete the set.

Any chance of a scan please

I'm in Norwich tomorrow so I'll call and collect to save on postage if that's OK

Hi Fred, Trust you are well, it's been a while. I don't think Manifesto is still going I'm afraid. I stopped my column and interviews quite some time ago and the website never really got off the ground. It was Mike Ritson who ran it. His work number is 01737 357561 if you want to get an update. Agree with everything you've said. However, it's not me that went to "the do", it's someone who has tried "dipping their toe into the local scene", and felt very unwelcomed. I was merely the messenger. Trust you are well Sir

As the original poster I feel an update is needed. Thanks for the input so far, some a little off topic, but it's all made for interesting reading: My original post was merely to point out that someone I know felt unwelcomed and disappointed at the atmosphere at a local event. It was not my opinion, I was merely the messenger and wondered if this was the state of the scene in general, hence the original headline topic on the post. Yesterday (Tuesday 19th), it was pointed out to me by a friend that someone has posted regarding this topic on Facebook and suggested that I am "filled with bile and poison" by posting this. I am unable to see the said post however I was sent a screen shot and to say the least, am annoyed beyond belief that a so called "long standing DJ and stalwart of the scene" can display such vitriol when the post wasn't aimed at him or, indeed, anyone in particular. I thought this person was a friend - obviously not. He will be hearing from me via other means. It appears that the vitriol extends beyond venues and now seeps into social media posts too.... but of course we knew that. Steve

It's on the outskirts of Boston. They kind of "play around" with soul events but, none the less, it doesn't look good when someone is showing a genuine interest in the scene and wants to find out more. Steve

I had 25 years in Yorkshire and not a sign of negative vibes. Since coming back here though the local scene has definitely changed to the point where people from out of the area put on events (as was the case in point I believe). The person who made the original comment which prompted my post has found a love for the music but has not been a part of the scene previously.

Well, if you are offering "freebies" pay a visit to the Kings Head..... said I wouldn't mention it but I'd like the people that prompted the original post to actually enjoy a proper soul night rather than the ones they have frequented recently. Nothing wrong with self promotion Sir Lol Steve

Generally the ones at the Cons Club and Ridlington Centre are fine. The one to which I am referring was in a pub (it'll remain nameless) but the people who visited were very unimpressed with the attitudes etc

Recently noted about a local event: ”Following a recommendation from a friend we attended a local Soul night in Boston having garnered interest in the music. Not only was it empty there was no atmosphere to make us stay. We gave it a second chance last weekend as it was a Sunday afternoon and we were at a loose end. Aloof doesn’t describe those who were there. Unwelcoming does. We were eyed up and down as if we had the plague. This was supposed to be a local event in a local pub for the local crowd. You bet it was. Obviously, if you’re not in, you’re not in. We will stick to Motown discos from now on” I’m from Boston and I know it can be clicky but come on.... where is the soul community spirit? ....and it’s not the only place. Whatever happened to one nation under a groove. It’d be nice to get back to those ethics.

Larry Houston Let's spend some time together Boot / Orig
Soulman replied to Soulboyrecords's topic in All About the SOUL
No problem, My copy is in storage following a move. I'll dig it out at some point, scan it and try and post a file. It's damned hard. Got my copy from Larry himself many years ago. He had an acetate of it too (didn't get that unfortunately) but it sounded great, even on an average system, it really brought out the bass aspect of the mix. Steve -

It's been discussed before but yes, the 12" exists but is hard to come by. Label design is same as "Promise". I think my copy is still in storage following a move but I'll see if I can find my file photo. The above image is indeed the first press / run on the 45 Steve -

First press is slightly duller paper and a more pastel red (red / white label), second press has a very slightly more glossy label with a darker red but same design. Third release is the all red label which was remixed without the "Whoo" and a more electronic sound to it and then finally there's the 12" which is the same design as the first two releases (red / white label). As far as I know it hasn't been booted Steve -
Loads n loads on Discogs for not much money

Apparently the records are de-listed as soon as payment is made
