  1. I'm lonely, I'm blue...without you: RIP Fontella. The Soul world mourns another great loss. Steve
  2. Phil, Is the moose head a Canadian original ???? Steve
  3. Get ten for a penny and I'll order 1000... and pay your flight to the UK. Fair deal methinks Steve
  4. Got a copy of Wooden Nickels on Omen in VG+ condition if its any use. Great record by the way Steve
  5. Sold my copy to Trev Thomas for a meer snip (think it was something like £200 or thereabouts. I'm sure he'll verify it when he reads this. Don't know if he still has it but if I were still collecting, it would be one I'd want back without a doubt. Happy memories of Gary Rushbrooke giving it it's first spins. Steve H
  6. Soz, Me having a busy moment between what I should be doing and what I shouldn't.... if you know what I mean. Been a bad day... one of those where simple people get confused, now what was i doing? Steve And for the record we need to distinguish between Jonathon Woodliffe (Frank Wilson / Jazz Funk / Kev Roberts etc) and Jim Wensiora (man of many records who I bought a few from, rare, not expensive at the time and made me a profit... not that its all about that as I wish I still had the records he sold me )
  7. I bought a few things off Jim. In fact got the Frankie Karl red stocker off him for peanuts but it wasn't Jim that was selling it back then. Tothis day I can't remember the guys name but being the pr*ck that I am, I already had it on Fairmount, didn't know it on Rouser and declined the offer. Such is life Steve
  8. Think you're right and BTW..... C'mon Town
  9. What year was this because I was offered a Rouser copy at the Fleet for £20?????
  10. See, thats what I'm talking about. Far more oomph, better production, better danceable pace... just better as a pop record than Robert's supposed more soulful version. Steve (Sorry, meant to relate this to "Everlasting Love")
  11. I'll get me shoes then... you gonna join me in a dance Steve
  12. OK, causing my own controversy here. Firstly, the Spinners vs Elton was purely an example where had the Spinners made the record at the Elton tempo it would have been much more accepted on our scene. Apologies for not explaining that part. Secondly, sorry not a closet Elton fan / dancer. Thirdly, as I understand it the Bell sessions had both in during the same year but Spinners take number was first in the can but shelved... although I'm always open to being put right. Fourthly... maybe I shouldn't have asked the bloody question in the first place, or maybe I shouldn't watch adverts.... I've been brainwashed again Steve
  13. Just listening to the music used on adverts of late, I heard Elton John's version of "Are You Ready For Love". That started me thinking.... the original version by the Spinners is soulful enough but nowhere near as danceable as Elton's which, in it's own right, isn't a bad effort. I've certainly used the Spinners when DJ'ing and tweeked the decks a bit but IMO it still doesn't hit the mark for dance floor reaction like Elton. Your suggestions for others and your thoughts in general please Steve
  14. Presume this is Paul Rudzitis from Leicester. To be honest, if it's him I didn't realise he was still trading. Great bloke though if its the same as Im thinking of. Best Steve
  15. Quality, legality and the fact that Grapevine was around during the height of the scene has possibly made it disposable, a lot like some of the "pop" records of the hey day of vinyl. You've answered your own question Dave, Grapevine aren't boots and certainly not UK re-issues, just first time issues in the UK methinks. Steve
  16. Got a mint minus uk copy.
  17. At the end of the day this is a dance music culture that we are in. There are dancers And there are collectors and never the twain shall meet as far as events go in big circles. I doubt in reality that Kev or Richard would have booked anybody to play nothing but ovo. Chris king can be singled out at certain events but I doubt this one. Why the web cams, why make it that obvious. Surely this is an attempt to make a huge, potentially loss make as much as a gain from some one in the business, legitimate. C'mon what's the problem. Slators slate every venue up and down the nAtion and see what response you get. If this scene is to Stay alive it needs big events like the tower nd from an ovo player i'l back it up. Is it just case of "I fancy an argument"?
  18. I really think you are out of order on this one
  19. I can guarantee that both Kev and Richard played originals. I have sold records to Richard in his quest to get back some of his classic records, many on first issue labels which the origin poster may or may not recognise. Kev and Richard lay a lot on the line for the tower. Few know the Actual expense of promoting such an event and I really doubt they would risk the pedigree of of any of their dj's bringing the event down by playing boots. Exclusives, one offs etc I accept but come on, give the two main promoters in the country some integrity. Why would they put cameras above the decks If they knew boots see going to be played. Maybe mr Bolton needs a Manship guide Steve Ps. Well done Richard And Kev albeit I only saw the Saturday session
  20. Without a doubt. So with Dranny as a Walliams lookalike, where's the only gay in the village??? Steve
  21. .....and bottom right annie far right and dranny next to her Steve Handbury
  22. Bottom left has got to be tony "the hat" patchett with his missus sat next to him. Steve Handbury
  23. If anyone is interested in a free pass for the Tower Saturday night bash, I have one up for grabs.... but with a catch. I need a lift from Huddersfield area. Happy to contribute to petrol etc. PM if you are or know of anyone who's able to help. Thanks Steve
  24. ..... And a great album it is too Steve
  25. Just a quickie... anyone on here from the Huddersfield area going to the Tower just for the Saturday night or, put another way, would anyone like to? Thanks Steve
