  1. In these present days of gloom - it’s good to look back on something positive in our / my past / youth and growing up - great memories

At 2 am on Sunday 23 September 1973, Wigan Casino started its first-ever Northern soul all-nighter, with Winstanley as the DJ. After Winstanley and his helper Ian Fishwick, Kev Roberts was the third DJ at Casino all-nighters, who was quickly joined by Richard Searling[4] Soul performers that performed there include Jackie Wilson, Edwin Starrand Junior Walker.

  2. Stop the doom and gloom - I hope to put an event on in Dec as Sept looks like it’s a no go - also booked NYE and I’ve booked 3 dates for 2021 - just calm down see how it goes - not sure what the rush is, sure we’re comping at the bit - but unless you can safely control the punters - think carefully what you’re doing as you’re playing with peoples life’s - be safe

  3. Gridwood - back in 1976 with half a gram of sulphate in you - listening to James Colt Black Power - I/we didn’t care about the lyrics, it was all about the beat, fast dancing, enjoyment and a carefree time - I can only speak for myself and the people I hung around with but - we didn’t care - we were young, nothing was going to stop us - it was pure music it was pure Soul it was our Soul - it was still underground - you had to be there.

As I remember it here in the UK TMG 555 was available over quite a few years with various repressings along the way.

Looking at your scan it has (TMG.555A) on the label.

I assume that TMJ 179 was to be a repress in South Africa but cancelled.

Quite desirable items you have there.

Very much like Freda Payne Band Of Gold INV 502 reissued as INV 533 and then wthdrawn.

Cellar - as always great information and thanks for sharing- top man 👍🏻

  5. 1967 - B side classic / old wheel sound and sometimes Mr M’s top tune

    Some background

In the UK, however, "I'll Pick a Rose" became a hit after it reached the number 10 in early 1969, thanks to its popularity from the Northern soul scene. Motown dug into its vaults for tracks to create an album for the British market, I'll Pick a Rose for My Rose, released by Tamla Motown in 1969, which contained many of Johnson's songs recorded since he had signed there in the mid-1960s, including "Why Do You Want to Let Me Go", "I'm Not a Plaything" and "I Miss You Baby (How I Miss You)". The latter was also reissued as a single by Tamla Motown and was a hit in Britain, reaching number 25 on the UK charts in November 1969.[6] He also toured the UK with Martha Reeves.

Johnson continued singing into the 1990s, releasing a solo album on the London-based Motorcity Records label, owned by Northern soul DJ and Motown lover Ian Levine. Johnson was one of the first and, according to Levine, one of "the most loyal and the most grateful" of all the former Motown artists he recorded.[8] Two singles were released, "By Hook or by Crook" in 1988 and "Run Like a Rabbit" in 1989.
