  1. 1300 Boulevard Way, Walnut Creek Walnut Creek is now a very upscale Bay Area suburb--Stephen Curry lives there, for example--but it was not always so. I can recall when there were actually walnut groves. Walnut Creek doesn't really have much of a 60s rock history. Interestingly, however, it all revolves around one place--1300 Boulevard Way. February 23, 1963 Walnut Creek Hall, Walnut Creek, CA: Bobby Freeman/Wally Cox/The Untouchables Correspondent Kent found this ancient "boxing-style" poster, for what very well may be Walnut Creek's very first rock show. It was held at The Walnut Creek Hall, at 1300 Boulevard Way. Bobby Freeman had had a huge hit with "Do You Wanna Dance" (no, Jerry Garcia did not play on it, whatever you may have read). The Wally Cox was not the actor, but a singer.

  3. How long before rare soul gets put in the skip ? Am 62 and can still see me attending soul venues up till I kick the bucket - so hopefully a few years to go. As to records and values - I’ve never brought a record for investment, so don’t care - but if you look at Tears Leroy Decca Demo brought at the casino in 77/78 - for £20 which is worth about £113 in today’s money - I guess selling it today for £113.50p am ahead of the game - win win
  4. Tony Basil - one of the first Soul Train dancers- also danced on numerous films such as viva Las Vegas - at 74 years old she still got it and is an inspiration to us all - nothing to do, punch Toni Basil in on you tube and be amazed
  5. So had to be around 78/79/80 - I remember it being sold in record bars and maybe 1st hour set or even setting up system set - just because it was different or the same as HB - it’s 1968 so may have been played at the wheel
  6. This is about as bad as it gets

  15. Just had a what's app - from Brian Rae who said about the record - he can only remember it being played a few times at Wigan - either K. Minshull or J Vincent - not sure who ??
  16. HIGH KEYS**** Living a lie (Verve) It was starting to command a hefty £8 in 77 when Pep found a load of water damaged Verve demos and flooded the market with them - I brought one, always wondered what the marks were from ?? - another mystery solved
  17. 1979 - St Ives All-nighters were already closed by local council / drug squad 1979 - The Fleet Peterborough All-nighters maybe not sure if the Embankment was still running then as well ?
  18. Guest martyn Posted June 14, 2010 I only ever heard this played at EASC allnighters from late 76 / 77 right into the early 80s - not saying it never got plays away from St Ives & Peterborough , its just I don't recall hearing it any where else...........I know Hammie used to play it & (I think ) John Vincent used to spin it too .
  19. Blast from the past at St Ives all-nighters - Ginger / Soul Sam can’t remember ever hearing this at the Casino although I mostly went to the oldies nights - maybe just an East Coast thing always wondered who discovered it and played it first
