According to Manship...about the Henry Boatwright version:
a lead-singer with SOUL BROTHERS INC. Henry Boatwright offers up a forgotten Cleethorpes Pier classic..
Maybe Herman's Hermits version was confused with this ? Or maybe some adventurous dj did bang it out somewhere?
Zoomsoulblue...where did you hear it?

So had to be around 78/79/80 - I remember it being sold in record bars and maybe 1st hour set or even setting up system set - just because it was different or the same as HB - it’s 1968 so may have been played at the wheel

Hi,
Thanks for that, I've never heard the Wilson Pickett before.
Are you sure the record you heard wasn't Don Varner? That was getting some plays a few years back. From the credits it looks like DV was co-writer.
I’ve heard John Vincent spin this a few times

Kev well done, take the positives, you’ve kept Soul alive, people have enjoyed it, and you’ve raised a few quid - hats off to you and the people who support you - who knows what’s around the corner, I hope you find a suitable venue - to continue 2021 bring it on

Just had a what's app - from Brian Rae who said about the record - he can only remember it being played a few times at Wigan - either K. Minshull or J Vincent - not sure who ??

HIGH KEYS**** Living a lie (Verve)
It was starting to command a hefty £8 in 77 when Pep found a load of water damaged Verve demos and flooded the market with them - I brought one, always wondered what the marks were from ?? - another mystery solved

April 1979 St. Ives Soul Sam
1979 - St Ives All-nighters were already closed by local council / drug squad
1979 - The Fleet Peterborough All-nighters maybe not sure if the Embankment was still running then as well ?

I only ever heard this played at EASC allnighters from late 76 / 77 right into the early 80s - not saying it never got plays away from St Ives & Peterborough , its just I don't recall hearing it any where else...........I know Hammie used to play it & (I think ) John Vincent used to spin it too .

Blast from the past at St Ives all-nighters - Ginger / Soul Sam can’t remember ever hearing this at the Casino although I mostly went to the oldies nights - maybe just an East Coast thing always wondered who discovered it and played it first
