  1. Steve that was the key to the Peterborough Soul and Scooter crowds, they were a younger crowd the Knights Hall at the Cresset Bretton, Friday night, followed by the fleet all nighter on the Sat then coach down to St Ives all dayer on the Sunday - 16 - 18 year old speed feeding, crowd. In late 81 early 82 these were under the D&S Promotions - then when the first Soul nighter was put on at the Wirrina that was under the PSC - this was run by Dave Read and Wilcox and later by Stuart Gordon after he was released from prison - mid to late 82.
  2. Peterborough Soul Club - ran this nighter in Notts 1983 in org format / also The Dedicated Soul Club ran weekly Northern nights at the Camden Ballroom London
  3. D&S Promotions About 1980-81 - then changed into PSC 1982 Dave Read and Stuart Gordon it usually was shown on early flyers in a cap / pill like pictures -as DS stood for drug squad - kind of piss take
  4. PSC started 1982 at the Wirrina they did about 6 nighters there as EASC Ken Cox had the Fleet - PSC clashed with EASC - That was Ken Coxs last night -PSC moved into the Fleet PSC - Started in 1982 after Wigan had shut, they wanted a more oldies style music rather than what was being played at EASC - Steve Gs right bully butler Inst first then fading in the vocal was a favourite - little bit hurts, green door, how can I forget, velvets, interplay, breakout , poor dog, anything that was 100mph remember this was a young adrenaline crowd EASC - after st Ives 1977 Ken Cox moved the EASC venue to the Wirrina in about 1977/78 then EASC moved to the Fleet - which was a council run property up to 1982 when the ICA took over (brought it) Italian Community Association who still own it today.
  5. Thought they were 74 / 75 - not 1980 onwards , could be wrong ?
  6. Steve didn't know anything about the damage to property etc - hope the police were involved - I can understand slapping someone but damage to property is a no go. Record I brought off James on one of this hunting trips to London paid £2:50 1979
  7. Steve - Peterborough Soul Club did 2 all dayers at St Ives (wow shot myself in the foot there Steves poster says 5th all dayer so they would have been running all dayers for at least 6 - 8 months) - then got heat off of the local council - so they stopped . Russ Towers later did evening dos there , his wife's mum at the time, was a councilor at st Ives, the plot thickens, that's why S Gordon hit him at The Newage Stamford soul do - there's a lesson in there some where.
  8. Billy there was s guy from Abbotts Ripton Huntington called James use to sell records walked around in a long trench coat pulling records behind him on a shopping trolley thing - got done for cattle rustling. It was about 79 at the casino he was selling records and had string going through the centre first time I ever saw that Coz people kept nicking his records
  9. Officially - Peterborough Soul Club which was set up after Wigan had closed, started putting all nighters on at the Wirrina which was a box indoor 5 a side, I think they use to do roller disco there as well - venue. During the winter months the place was freezing even off your neck - so it was decided to clash with the EASC free night same date. One thing the PSC had over the EASC was that the younger crowd had come up through various local Soul and Scooter Soul venues at Bretton , Orton, etc additionally they knew that chewing gum which kept them awake was always on tap. I don't know what the support was at The Fleet that night - all I know is that Ken Cox decided that, that was the last night. Peterborough Soul Club took the fleet over I think till about 86ish when one of the guys got tugged for supplying stay awake chewing gum.
  10. I know Tony Warot talked to me about it , at the time he still got the letter at home, maybe you were one of his favourites ??
  11. Ken Cox was EASC I remember St Ives Cambs 75-77 Wirrina - Peterborough 77-78 Embankment - Bedford 78 (see Hammie) The Fleet - Peterborough 78-82 He use to get DJs to sign contracts to only work for him - so when they DJed for other people they used different names , but the punters knew. Mr Coops is best for info on Ken Cox he use to come from Stamford , think he use to get a lift with Ken to do's. EASC - Ended in 1982 when the start of the Peterborough Soul Wars started 1982 - Peterborough Soul Club at the Wirrina clashed with EASC at The Fleet same night - Ken finished EASC - Peterborough Soul Club took the Fleet over Tony Clayton brought Nev's records late 70ts and started Djing - he was also involved with Oddfellows
  12. Vocal - never rated as good as Lenis - however you can hear every word and it doesn't sound rushed
  13. Pete paid £1700 for mine over 4 years ago (German make) there now worth 2k there's a place in Cambs that has spares and can repair
  14. If I ever brought off someone say £100 plus and it was advertised as original etc etc , and when it arrived it was a snide copy, I would politely ask for a refund and send the record back - if not I would hunt him down and stab him - end of
  15. I can understand a collector wanting the singer to sign on a label , but putting you're name on the record - why ??
  16. Jimmy Gersham As of October 2008, he is in his 16th year of incarceration in a United States Federal Prison. He is serving a 30-year sentence without chance of parole. Gresham was convicted for his involvement with a group of Marielitos that were sponsored out into his neighborhood in 1980 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), following the Mariel Boat Lift. They were convicted of conspiracy to traffic cocaine. He was given the 30-year sentence in the same courthouse where, at the age of 18, he took the Navy oath. Jimmy Gresham was a first time and a non violent offender UPDATE ~ I'm delighted to say that Jimmy was released from jail on 21 Feb 2012 after many years inside. For the terrible story on why he was incarcerated please read the Wiki page https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/G/jimmy_gresham/index.php

  21. Please note that these are estimates as different DJs who DJ in a local area will be cheaper than at the other end of the country, also over years of knowing each other sometimes you have a good night and over pay as you get in extra people, some DJs give 100% wages in the charity box at the end of the night, yes I've had that done a few time, others say just give me £20 to cover my petrol. I know of one well known DJ who DJed recently who traveled over 360 miles round trip for a 1 hour spot for £50 which he agreed before he went - why because he still has the buzz of djing and soul music. That's 6 hours traveling plus fuel for £50 - it's a hobby ? The actual fees that promotors pay I guess is that grey area - so without names: Top dogs 150 - 250 mid range 50 - 120 Troop DJs 30 - 40 Pub hobby spinners 10 - 20 Hobby DJS A few pints - don't care
