  1. Vocal - never rated as good as Lenis - however you can hear every word and it doesn't sound rushed
  2. Pete paid £1700 for mine over 4 years ago (German make) there now worth 2k there's a place in Cambs that has spares and can repair
  3. If I ever brought off someone say £100 plus and it was advertised as original etc etc , and when it arrived it was a snide copy, I would politely ask for a refund and send the record back - if not I would hunt him down and stab him - end of
  4. I can understand a collector wanting the singer to sign on a label , but putting you're name on the record - why ??
  5. Jimmy Gersham As of October 2008, he is in his 16th year of incarceration in a United States Federal Prison. He is serving a 30-year sentence without chance of parole. Gresham was convicted for his involvement with a group of Marielitos that were sponsored out into his neighborhood in 1980 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), following the Mariel Boat Lift. They were convicted of conspiracy to traffic cocaine. He was given the 30-year sentence in the same courthouse where, at the age of 18, he took the Navy oath. Jimmy Gresham was a first time and a non violent offender UPDATE ~ I'm delighted to say that Jimmy was released from jail on 21 Feb 2012 after many years inside. For the terrible story on why he was incarcerated please read the Wiki page https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/G/jimmy_gresham/index.php

  8. Summed it up H - sad fu#kers - like it ????
  9. Please note that these are estimates as different DJs who DJ in a local area will be cheaper than at the other end of the country, also over years of knowing each other sometimes you have a good night and over pay as you get in extra people, some DJs give 100% wages in the charity box at the end of the night, yes I've had that done a few time, others say just give me £20 to cover my petrol. I know of one well known DJ who DJed recently who traveled over 360 miles round trip for a 1 hour spot for £50 which he agreed before he went - why because he still has the buzz of djing and soul music. That's 6 hours traveling plus fuel for £50 - it's a hobby ? The actual fees that promotors pay I guess is that grey area - so without names: Top dogs 150 - 250 mid range 50 - 120 Troop DJs 30 - 40 Pub hobby spinners 10 - 20 Hobby DJS A few pints - don't care
  10. So that's it 7 days is over nice poll

  13. Classic, how does that get through the producer unless he's stoned to bits he must realise it's off key not sounding right - nice one
  14. Back in the 70ts there was only a handful of supermarkets however thinking in the same vein - if Lidls had been around would the slang name for this tune be "A Lidl bit hurts" https://youtu.be/GSZ4y0zzvUI
  15. Trouble with hearing bits like this - every time you hear the record, your waiting for the tap to come in - bit like listening to Manifesto back in the 70ts we use to replace that word with "shop at tescos" now many years later in my head it's still programmed SHOP AT TESCOS
  16. Why at 0:53 does a guy with a piece of scaffolding pole and a 6" bolt start banging away - he even misses the best - but hey he had fun https://youtu.be/mX_jb5Rbzpk
  17. At 2:02 guys that's a bark https://youtu.be/mCV9dVDJHDI
  18. Does anyone know the background on the shakers one wonderful moment when the dog barks ? lets face it they would have been in the studio, and someone said hey I got a great idea we can use a dog bark in the track ??
  19. About 10 of us meet up each year on rebemberance day, and hit a few pubs in London, after out 6th pub we went to The Star near Buckingham Palace and as per usal there's a back ground tape / CD running with soft sounds on a loop, all of a sudden Beverly Ann you've got you're minds on other things comes on !! One of the closest pubs to Buckingham Palace " Northern Soul by Royal appointment ". Just a thought
  20. times the giveaway if in doubt, am always amazed that people copy things, so how can they get the time wrong Boot is 2:01. Org is 2:35 - so where's the 34 seconds gone - the plot thickens ?
  21. Pete, Was at LAX last week with two hours to kill, flicked through my iPad, plugged in the big boys headphones and was transported back to the Casino years, thanks for the sounds storming amphetamine driven, I can almost smell the sweat. Keep doing what your doing
  22. Last week, Just brought the 63 split window corvette off of the Vice President of Capitol Records LA - when I asked him casually "have you ever heard of soul music called Northern Soul" he said no, but he did tell me a few stories of in the old days ?
  23. We all look back at various milestones and memories in our life, when we got married, children, divorce, winning or loosing the FA cup , soul venues the list go on, how ever Brian started DJ,ing his proper full gig on Aug 7th 1965 - that's 50 years. Brian's enthusiasm back in the mid 70'S at the Casino was a major influence on me and I know thousands of others stomping away the night, gasping for air and chewing there necks off. A True Northern Soul Hero and effing Legend, long may he reign. Perterborough Soul Club
