  1. Just saw these in Camden Market £255 - mine cost £17 back in the day Mine also had one of the pockets with elastic thread so if the DS pulled me - I had somewhere to tuck the wrap, out the way
  2. Was it staged, contrived and multi-takes? Not staged but when they filmed all the lights came on which semi emptyed the floor - taking photos/ flash or lights on and filming, kinda put you in a whos that why are they filming paranoid feeling - mixed with amphetamine Some people might have attended because it was being filmed, but did others stay away because if it? I came up on a coach from Aldershot it left the roundabout club about 6 at night - the coach was as usal for an oldies night packed plus picked a couple more up at Birmingham Hilton - not once did I hear anyone mention that there was filming being done at the Casino that night And was the filming 'the beginning of the end' for want of a better expression The filming boosted the scene directly after - some people lasted some people liked the gear and some people wondered what it was all about and didn’t get it - end of the 70ts some strange sounds getting spun - Joe90 etc - However the casino died in 81 in a respective way - and those who went have memories that will last a life time - the good times and the bad
  3. When people ask “What is Northern Soul” Freddie nails it in one song Thanks for raising my heart beat in the sweat at the Casino, while dancing and grasping for air - Never to be forgotten - RIP

  12. Paul - don’t bite mate, imagine thinking / being part of something that you fully don’t understand / was never there / and impossible to duplicate due to social media / phones / cameras and dare I say No smoking / let alone scoring gear / ODing and genuinely looking after you’re mates without stabbing them in the back - just to make you look good On various social media posts - I say poor them - we were in that scene that era 1975 - 1989 and still going today - they cant take away our memories, love for the music or more importantly our opinion
  13. Side comment went to a Soul night at Leicster a couple of years ago - most of the dancers were about 58 to mid sixties (am 64) then a shuffler came on - this guy jumped up large belly and shuffled just like 75/76 back then anything that you danced to like that was classified as a newie - I didn’t know the guy but knew he was there back in the day - shit he was good like really good - there’s a saying “when you know - you know”

  19. Who remembers mid 70ts the cars in the car parks with sun visor names at the top of the screen - SKF Bearing DS must of hated us
  20. Great hearing from people who were there at the time / and an important part of the history - top man Always find past experiences and knowledge fascinating - as what was acceptable back then and how people behaved would be blown up on social media today in a second
  21. The other bits - that no one likes talking about Wigan drug squad tried endlessly to shut the Casino Breaking in to chemists to fuel the Casino was everywhere Selling of drugs around the country - and links from one chemist getting screwed to another - Barbiturates in mass from East Anglian sold to Scotland Thursday nights when you use to get you’re brown cash pay packet - easy muggings to feed the Soul habit Pills silver wraps - everywhere it was a free for all - Welsh drug suppliers feeding the Scene. I remember seeing on the balcony at the Casino a Welsh supplier with the roll neck jumper on I said - bet ur hot - he lifted up his jumper to show a rounders bat , snapped in two - as he had discussions with some Bolton lads. How many people took gear - A coach typically would seat 52 people - it was not uncommon that 53 people took gear - yes the coach driver as well but that’s another story
