Brilliant track that has had quite a few spins at "Soul Or Nothing". Sounds great played out on a decent system.

Frank Beverly & The Butlers "If That's What You Wanted". First heard it on an Inferno compilation way back when and it just blew me away (still love it to bits).

Been playing it out for a while now, always gets a great response and sounds amazing on a big sound system. Fantastic set opener because if anything the crazy random drumming at the start grabs people's attention

Dealt with him in the past but never will again for the reasons stated already. Lives on another planet and his manner leaves a LOT to be desired.

Cracking tune that i've been playing out myself recently. Obviously somebody's paid WAY too much for it but it is getting a little tougher to find, took me a while to track down a copy so i guess it's a case of someone looking for a while and getting desperate.

Have to agree with everyone about Swan flight cases. Just recently got a custom case to hold 150 records and they were extremely helpful (good price too!). I also have the 100 count box from them which realistically holds around 90 if you're using cardboard sleeves so your best option is to probably go for the "custom" 150 count ones. Just e-mail them and let them know what you want.

If you join Steve Cato's initial post with Paul B's, that about sums it up for me really. As a 41 year old that's been on the scene for the last 20 years or so, i class myself as in the middle (too old to be young and too young to be old) . I think it's a natural progression to explore and embrace new sounds and that's why the smaller events like "Soul Or Nothing" with it's upfront music policy appeal to me more these days. It's exactly where i see the scene going when the 'young' folk are eventually in the driving seat and i certainly see myself as part of that scene. I spent a few hours at a local pub do in Chorlton (Manchester) on New Years Day run by a young crowd and the music and passion in that small room was a complete eye (and ear) opener and if this same music and passion is the future of the soul scene, i can't fookin' wait!!!!

One of my all time favourite records. been playing this in my sets for a few years on and off, always gets a great reaction. Introduced to me many many moons ago on a Kent compliation. The production on this record is incredible and i couldn't believe my ears when i heard the guitar in the mix on the original pressing (didn't seem as prominent on the Kent comp.). Would love to hear an alternate version.

Really sad news, was only listening to them last week. Superb vocalist and their covers of soul tracks were sublime.

I have the 'box' room (i.e. the smallest room in the house) for my music room. My top tip would be to get some bespoke shelving for your room to make the most of the space you have as opposed to lots of boxes on the floor etc. This may be a little expensive i know but it's worth it in the long run as you'll fit a LOT more vinyl and it will look the business so you'll be inclined to spend a lot more time in it. Best of luck with it and here's to many 'lost' hours.

Good thread, i was educated on Kent compilations myself and they were so important to me as a young mod growing up in the arse end of Ireland. Only recently i've dug out the Dyke & The Blazers l.p. "So Sharp" and i've hammered it to death on my turntable. This was one of the first ones i bought and it's quite a special l.p. but the Kent compilation that gets my vote is "Floorshakers", my first REAL adventure into the world of Northern Soul. I remember hearing Patti & The Emblems "Gonna Love You A Long Long Time" for the first time and the track just sounded so fresh and new to me. Also from the same l.p. i heard Dean Parrish "Determination", Earl Grant "Hide Nor Hair" and Willie Hutch "The Duck" for the first time, spine tingling stuff!!! I collected (and still have) most of them and they still hold pride of place in my collection. Another amazing l.p. was "Kissing Her & Crying For You" where i first heard "Please Keep Away From Me" by Elbie Parker. I could ramble on forever about all the tracks from various compilations that turned me on to this music and started me on the road to collecting original 45's but i'll give someone else a chance. Kent compilations - i wouldn't even be typing this response on this forum without them so that's how relevant i feel they are.

Now there's a coincidence, i actually bought my copy (blind, as i didn't know it at the time) from the same stall in the 80's as well whilst on holiday in London. Think i paid £1.50 for it. As far as i can recall, i bought some nice Rocksteady / Skinhead Reggae 45's from him on the same day!

Pop Tops - £30. Somebody steal this, an absolute bargain!

And deservedly so as well, the king of the underplayed and good taste! Mark me down for attending this one, i wouldn't miss it for the world.

Had a great weekend in Dublin at the "Sleepless Nights" anniversary. Fantastic company, great tunes and lots of belly laughs. Got to spin a few as well, what more could a boy ask for???

Woke up this morning with the bass line of Billy Sha-Rae "Crying Clown" in my head and although it took me ages to work out what the bloody thing was, needless to say the record got a vicious beating from my stylus this afternoon so that's my "F*** me, this is brilliant" record for today.
