Liam2005 commented on Maryam Snape's article in News Archives
Hi Russ Remember the days when people cared about the Scene, the hardcore element of the 8ts and 9ts plus 2000's. We were there and many more like us on here, i know who you are and what you stand for Russ.....you got my 100% support and agree totally with everything you said above. The Scene is dead long live the scene, well as we all once knew it. Theres alot of illness out there as Carl Fortnum once said lol Greg -

Pied Piper - Follow Your Soul - Kent Cd - Out Now
Liam2005 commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
I'm afraid you are correct in most cases, i suggested on an earlier post some days ago that dj's should get tracks cut. Where not talking about the so called elite but the grass routes dj's, the ones that keep the scene going in the small club up and down the country. I agree it would give fresh tunes to the dancefloor, some of the Piper tracks are actually released on vinyl from Ace, so no need to get cut ( if required). Remember it all depends on the so called DJ's agenda, entertain the dancefloor with a nice mix or just entertain the few people rubbing there chins in the corner. There is also a positive reaction needed by the dancers, this is always not forcoming at lots of events until they get there top 500. Greg (ex Capitol Soul Club and 100club). -
Pied Piper - Follow Your Soul - Kent Cd - Out Now
Liam2005 commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
Awesome cd - Totally forgot about how good the Freddy butler Lp track "They say I'm afraid (of Losing you)" - and i supplied the LP for this cd lol. Ady hats off mate Superb, got it on at work all through the day. Greg -
Yeah lets have a unissued cd night, i'll get Mick H. to dj with a cd player lol, keeping it real as much as possible . Mick are you up for it ? I'm gonna leave when Ady spins those new carvers on Sat night at the 100club haha. Right i'm off to buy some funk....joking!! Laters Greg
-
How else would one play these great tunes lost to the scene without doing a carver then, as most dj's going back to Ian Clark, carl fortnum, flynny, ady, mick smith, alan h., etc etc were doing it for years. The dancefloor at the 100club would be at loss straight away. Yes i agree there's many fantastic cheap records and when i was a dj at the100club nighters i would was playing cheap stuff like Parisians (£10), wade flemmons (£5), falcons (£5) along with big ticket items and unissued carvers from master tapes supplied from Ady. All i'm saying is mix it up and bring new sounds to the dancefloor. Dj's in the 8ts and 9ts onwards were doing this all the time, i know as i was there when we all first got access to things like chuck jackson "whats with this loneliness", Hytones "good news", OC Tolbert, other brothers etc etc. At the capitol soul club they always did dj sets of £20 and under, a solid 30+ mins set for the collectors. This is where alot of cheapies went from being cheap to now so called big money items plus carvers from master tapes. Yes i would like dj's to do this more but it simply does not happen at most venues, most dj's play the same solid bankers. Maybe the crowd is different from the 8ts/9ts and are more set in there ways . I totally agree that there many great cheap records but also many great tracks that only can be played on carvers as they exist only from master tapes. Cheers just my opinion matey

If you all consider the amount of unreleased material discovered through the 9ts and currently then theres plenty of new tunes. I just got a cd (pied piper vol 2) in the post from Ady and its awesome. Yes many things are exclusive and versions from tapes and acetates but DJ's playing the same old stuff, jesus its painful sometimes. DJ's should look to these CD releases and cut tracks to play, or maybe the egos get in the way. Theres tones of stuff out there but no one seems to have the balls to dj with them. Yes of course Ady does but others could cut pieces and play them up and down the country. The other thing is nowadays all the really old collectors have got all the mega tunes, the one offs etc and there lost forever to the dancefloor. Look back at the dj sets from Stafford etc and later and ask yourself where have all these great tunes gone ??...into collections of people who don't live the nightlife anymore. Greg

Discoveries-They Would Have Happened Anyway
Liam2005 replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in All About the SOUL
First up i was not about in the old days.... way too young to be dancing and collecting in the 7ts. My experience is mainly mid 8ts onwards and some of the real rare records are from this period. Yes Eddie parker is rare (thought to be) but John Anderson had a fare few at one stage back in the day along with many others now considered rare. My hat goes off to the collectors who turned up the unissed material, can you imagine a few hours of dj sets of unissued tracks. Always wanted to do that at The Capitol Soul Club but never got round to gathering the troops ( Andy Rix, Ady C., Fortnum etc). An RCA hour of unissued material back to back, Detroit unissued hour. By the end of the 8ts and early 9ts rare tunes were getting found and for me the best period of music. Mid tempo had taken hold and no baggie clowns in sight. Smart sussed people who an ear for a tune and had the attitude to back up the egos lol. Greg -
Ah brings me back when i'd be trying to call him early and he would never answer lol. I Bought so many records from Soul Bowl in the 8ts and 9ts. I remember getting the list one morning and walking up the Goldhawk Road, on my way to the tube station. Got to the platform and opened up the list and there it was Otis Lee for £25! right thats it ran up the stairs, f*ck the train and out the door to the phone box. Got through after it been engaged and said Hi its Greg in London and have you still got Otis Lee, yup got that for ya, how many do you want??? i bought 7 copies and sold them on to my mates....of course i stuck an extra fiver on top :-) . Those were the days....Anita Anderson, Gary Dean, Nat Hall, Sept. Jones, Shamettes etc etc. Top Bloke! just don't call before opening times. Greg

When i first attened the 100 Club back in eighties i was 18 and thought what are all these old boys doing here dancing ? shouldn't they be at home with the kids or down the pub with a similar age group. Yes back then we had alot of youngsters so it didn't bother us too much. There was no baggies etc, that was and still is so uncool imo. Aaron i'm now 45 and one of the old boys, one day this will also happen to you . Live it large while you can son, youth is a great thing and glad to see a bit of youthful fire in the belly. ps some of those old boys became my best mates for many years. Greg

Blimey! back in the 9ts we were paying dj's at the Capitol Soul club £100 a pop. To be honest theres only a few dj's in this country that get paid £200+ (Butch). Most dj's get between £50 and £100, i have done events up and down the country over many years and i can count on one hand promoters paying £100+. Most dj's are out of pocket when Djing (cabs, petrol, time, trains etc). As you know Chalky most of us do it for the love, most dj's in the real world would laugh at what the northern scene pays . Greg
