  2. Me and the wifey, thoroughly enjoyed it, way better quality than most documentaries I've seen over the years.
  3. can you put up a scan? your record would have been issued in 67-68 and possibly with a tri-centre if your lucky. Re Gene's CSS 1 - possibly uk export for the far east {singapore} or maybe Celyon.
  4. The 'Double' bass is all over practically every RnB tune recorded before 1960, Hit The Road Jack by ray has got a classic sounding DB on it. Willie Dixon played a lot of the bass parts at Chess, on a double. That tune posted above sounds like standard electric bass guitar to my ears.
  5. cheers Crogger, Trev if you could get a list of release dates off your mate that would be cool! cheers

  12. stupid question probably but can someone confirm for me if EVERY release on Soul Galore & Soul Fox was a bootleg? And also, does any one know the release date for the first one SG 1000 SOUL THINGS - PROVE YOURSELF A LADY / TERRIFICS - CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE? oh second stupid question, I am assuming they were all manufactored in the states?
  13. Picked up today at bootsales, a bunch of stuff including an Orange vinyl stereo issue album, Hi! We're the miracles! on a far eastern label called First Records. I'm no expert but I dont think its japanese, think it might be Korean, can anybody point me in the direction of some info about this one?
  14. check out 45cat for more info and better scans
  15. theres a black uk label standing at £89 on ebay at the moment! usa copy appears to have not charted at the time even though Anka did have some other stuff chart that year,
  16. ok cheers folks, by the way does anybody know if the blue v was made in the usa or the uk?
  17. Whats the story behind the blue vinyl of Dottie Cambridge - Cry your eyes out/ Perfect Boy - MGM K-SP-103? Is it a bootleg or a real mgm single? cheers
  18. thanks for the replys, its way more complicated than I thought 24 hours ago! (you live an learn!) have a look here on 45 Cat to see the scans we have put up so far (56 so far) Gordy
  19. between the East & West coasts? the other thing we were wondering about is the possibly that motown repressed a large quantity and sold them here in late 80's/90's? somebody recalls seeing a trade ad from motown for it.
  20. Question for you motown nuts. On the Pink/ purlpe coloured Gordy label were the 1960's first pressing the "badge" type design and then repressed with the "arrow" design? Or does it mix up? This is all the releases pre 1970 (and Issues only not demos) Im talking about. Trying to settle a discussion on 45cat. cheers
  21. Hi, by coincidence I was in Oxford St the other day looking at all the redevelopement along the street from tottenham ct rd towards the 100club. When I saw this news I wasnt unduly surprised, I work in a property related industry and when you see tiny bedsits in London still fetching 300 grand, even now in the middle of a recession its no wonder the owner of building along the most famous shopping st in the world wents the grubby smelly little basement club out, is it? I have seen many gigs there and attended quite a few allniters too and I love it for the history and atmosphere but face up to it folks its doomed like everything thats worth something other than money in this country. Somebody mentioned briefly mentioned the 12 Bar Club, well this building is earmarked for demolition in a couple of years despite the fact it is a LISTED building because it is a 500 year old forge, easily one of the oldest buildings in central london still in use it is to be replaced by some modern rubbish. You havent a hope in hell of getting any help from govt to save a building or club when they are encouraging developers to do these things. Unless you have a club in premises it owns Lock stock & barrel, ie Freehold, then they always at the mercy of greedy Leasehold Landlords. Best get down there while you can!
  22. I have enjoyed being definitively corrected by the way but have one last question, why are they called "ACETATES"?
  23. Acetates - Acetates are a blank acetate (ie metal) disc sandwiched by 2 sides of Shellac, the same material as 78's and not vinyl. They were manufactured blank and carved directly from the tape playback in the studio on a big old record playing type machine (using a hefty needle). All uk studios probably used to have one, I've seen a couple of these machines at boot sales in london years ago. Its not a good idea to clean acetates with record cleaner by the way I fucked my Magic Roundabout copy like that!
