I first got into Northern Soul in 1974 when I was in my early teens through a mate of mine called Kevin Batey. All our friends were into rock music, but we found this other type of sound that was fantastic. They took the piss a bit but we all stayed mates for years. Kevin moved back to rock music, but it was Northern Soul for me. One adavantage of him moving back to rock was that I got all his records for nowt!!! I went to most of the big venues at the time when there was a bus trip going to them. We went with the Durham crowd and sometimes with the Newton Aycliffe lot. Fantastic!!!!!Ã"šÃ‚
