I don't mind a few dollars variance from around the states as long as that's what is spent with a proper mailer included. For me the situation revolves around the feedback on other sold items and other current offerings they have when it's an ebay item - people that always have quality stuff (thatgirl and tefteller for example) and pack it right - I don't mind paying for a proper mailer, tracking/signed for on a 300 dollar record with these people. What pisses me off are the 'non dealers' with delusions when grading, send it in a paper bag and although it's not so much the obigatory 8 dollars or so post, cos they don't do signed for, but the fact the stupid heads put the full price on the green slip and you get another 30 dollars customs on top and you have to take time out go to the depot to pay the extra for the bloody thing! I now tell everyone from USA what to do and what happens this week - I got tracking on a 350 dollar deal, he put a low value and used record on the slip, he had 2 sturdy pieces of card and then what? - he put it in a fkn jiffy bag!!! doh! The plus side - an unplayed never out of packet record with the collector stamping the bag SEP 27 1966 - of course, when I saw and played the beauty I forgave him for the jiffy bag part of it all! On the home front the UK dealers do themselves justice in the main - most people I buy from I expect 2ish quid signed for and 5-6 special as basically I don't take a chance on record value versus insurance limit. Only one snag ever with a dealer on here - 2 records EX+ a 150 deal plus special post to cover insurance limit - actually talked to him re nick and was assured ok. Records were VG at best when they arrived. Will never buy from him again. Moral of all this - it actually doesn't take much for the seller to please the customer, but one wrong thing to piss off the buyer forever.

I'm not sure how we get them now as when the item is sold all details are removed - even if you are logged in. I suppose you could note the last price on screen as it hits the minute mark and if it drops out as sold then guess that that was the price? I was only really watching one though and when it went above my budget didn't take much notice after that. From memory just a couple - Mary Love on UK King hit 495 - bloody hell all I need is a cover for mine! Sam Dees was about 394 Velvet Satins 298 oh and the Jackey Beavers was over 2400 I think - don't quote me though on any of these! As with most auctions you would get a sale price or withdrawn list but I guess as Johns is weekly it would be too much hassle to keep up to date. Anyone else devised another way to get the end prices?

Aye the politics thing is a hard one to get used to, but people will be people as they say! One of my mates has tons of Northern on CD's as he doesn't collect vinyl or even have a record player/deck. He's still my mate even though now I collect a fair bit of vinyl as I couldn't afford it for years and buy original - whatever country US, BRITISH, CANADIAN or even those nice BELGIUM MOTOWN in pic bags and sadness of sad - play em on sixties record players for the real deal feel. For me it must be an official record company issue and preferably first release record in that country, though I do have the blue Don Thomas 1975 official record co release in my box! Should I buy a pink label one as well? LOL At a do I would expect people to be friendly and if not talking music then up dancing as life is too short to keep running up to the stand to see if that big ticket number playing is a boot or not. So am I the snob and he isn't? - hey man get the beers in while we decide and leave the politics to Gordon and his morons!!

Would like to buy this from someone and it needs to be in at least excellent+ nick with labels clean from writing/tears or other crap. John Manship latest book says £200 and popsike from 2007 onwards shows sales of £211, £143, £152, £217 and a silly one of £280!! So the easy bit is to pm me with your price - to INCLUDE signed for post - and the cash is waiting at the right price - somewhere between 143 and 211 I reckon!!!!!!!!!! The better the price the quicker the sale. Will do a cheque to save fees and if I've not bought from you before - wait till cleared if you want. Cheers and thanks in advance. Tony

Souled Out Now Called " A Northern Soul Film" ?
NUFCSOUL replied to Casper's topic in All About the SOUL
There was not a bit of Weller Duffy. It is purely 1974 as the blurb states. Also the tracks are played by a dj when the dancers are in the mocked up casino. Other instances are when he slots a cassette in to play and when an actual record is played on a record player. The props buyer has done pretty well in my opinion though someone looking for 100% reality will pick fault with something relating to the set or sounds. Even 65miliion pound blockbusters slip up - remember the caveman with a watch on or summit in one big budget film!! Like I said earlier - it is a film set in 1974 - certainly not a documentary and looks like it wants to be a feel good british youth culture urban love story set around Northern Soul, ordinary lives and great music! Cheers Tony -

Right 3 answers in one post - Headsy - The Tony you met at Johns a while back when buying records. Chris-od - Upstairs at The Denton had a regular weekly 'disco' night - pestered the life out of the DJ to play the 'Northern' stuff - he always played Archie Bell - Here I Go Again the second I got in! Gumshield - aye the West End never changes. JumpinJoan - I'll answer you quite seriously. As far as I could tell there were no dodgy 'disco beats' in any track. As an original vinyl man myself I was even looking at the bloody labels as you got sight of record boxes and the dj putting on the sounds. The - You Didn't Say A Word - single has a big part to play in the film and you get a good shot of the label. The P and Parkway and all black text with white label looked fine at the glance and angle you got. My mates thought I was flippen mad for wanting such things to be authentic looking! The bags, badges, hair styles etc and clothing of the characters all looked pretty good. There's loads of humour in it as well and some of it well cheesy but as we know life was so different back then and those of us of a certain age can probably connect with it better than others. Cheers all Tony -

Right this is what happened and what we were told. 18.30pm Wed 16th Feb 2009 Empire Cinemas Screen/Theatre 6 The Gate Newcastle Upon Tyne Free screening of the not yet finished film - an audience reaction/test preview. Sound would be patchy and some scenes may have printed dialogue rather than audio as the dubbing was not complete - but a full length movie. The film does not have a finished title. Audience approx 150 of all ages. Now here's the hard bit to describe it and try to give MY opinion. Set in 1974 in Stoke - time of the Birmingham Bombers, hard times, football hooligans etc Archive footage and the acted out scenes combine to show kipper ties, big collars and grimish urban life/shit job scenarios. Some good characters are introduced that will interweave throughout the film. But we are pretty much into a boy fancies girl situation. First real blast is the Millionaires - And The Rains Came played dominantly as the girl (a hairdresser} is cutting his hair and he is introduced to the music. I do not intend to tell the whole bloody plot here but it is an urban love story of the time and a very BIG focus on his adventures when he visits The Casino Club. Lot's of very good dancing and a typical soundtrack. The Snake, Out On The Floor, Tainted Love, Gonna Be A Big Thing, 7 Days Too Long, Breakaway and significantly to the film - You Didn't Say A Word - very significant indeed. There are many side issues with the main characters workmate (Irishman called Brendan) and a big bad Casino drug dealer (Alan) come dancing kingpin. In all he gets the girl but not the one we think. He gets the one that wants to make a life for herself. After the film it's the feedback they want and we all fill in forms relating to what we thought was good, bad, best characters etc Amazingly they gave a list of proposed titles as well and a chance to pick what you think or indeed give them one of your own. Conclusion. A very good insight to the workings of the film. I took it for what it was and obviously I wasn't expecting 'rare soul' insight. You got a general Wigan soundtrack and they tried to be as authentic as possible with the sets as well. The blurb says Joe is 17 but even that may change to 19 we were told in the discussion afterwards of which me and my mates were included in as well. The film people wanted it to be as authentic as possible but this is NOT a documentary. It's not a This England. It is a youth culture story from a time gone by. It wants to be a classic culture love story social issues type in the vein of This Is England. Young girls of 17 admitted they found it hard to understand - they couldn't connect with the life portrayed back then. For me it put me back to 1974 and dancing to those sounds in The Denton in the West End of Newcastle. Obviously they were the only sounds you had as loads hadn't even been discovered. To cap it all though on the way out at the end one lad about 20yrs old told me he had never heard anything like those sounds in his life! Where could he get them? Well there is no 'record shop' in town but I just said 'google' Northern Soul mate - You'll be on for hours or more likely bloody years! So that's it - that's how it went and we'll see what happens next. I enjoyed the whole thing and no we didn't get paid!! Cheers Tony -

Just had a call from my mate to say we're on to see the film at some preview thing in Newcastle tonight. So regardless of the title I'm going with an open mind to see no doubt, some social meanderings from the era (the film company blurb obviously mentions 70's hard times, the love angle of the main characters and Wigan Casino - how obvious!) Also there'll be some dancing I suppose and to hear some music to go with said dancing. So I'll turn up, see it and post back here - it will all be a matter of opinion of course!! Cheers Tony (Loved the last 'Wigan' thing I viewed when I drove down to Lowton to catch the Once Upon A Time In Wigan play and hey - owt's better than watching NUFC at the minute - and no comments on that please!!) -
All sorted - cheers Some good prices here folks worth a pm to sort a deal on a record

A very good find - shame it's not in any price guide !! Could be played as an end of nighter at the worst 'do' ever though. I agree - the 'Northern' category is a very broad spectrum though some interpretations are so wrong - my wish though is for ebay to get all of the fakes, rubbish boots and the so called limited edition white label pressings taken off the genuine category and put into a 'Northern Copies' category. At least then anything bought in the true 'Northern Originals' category could be returned legally as it was not the genuine article in the correct category. That wouldn't get around this mis-match though!

I just love these little quirky discoverys Only got the one copy and like most it seems it's filed with SWOL side as the play side. Loved it as a cheapy when bought 3/4 years back and still relatively cheap, though I see Browny has changed it from LOW to 25 quid in his latest book. Time for the completists to get the other one they haven't got eh!! -
There is also a stamp AUDIOMATRIX as well as the other marking and stamp on the ALL OF MY LIFE side Got mine off Glenn Brierley at Brighouse - by the way I had his ebay id on my sellers but lost it Anyone got it? Cheers Tony
