ORIGINAL required on Black Jack - please advise your price along with detailed description of all round condition for both sides including label. DO NOT ask - What will you pay ? The 2 on popsike sold in 2014 give a clue so add inflation ! The money is waiting for a nice copy, just PM me for a civilised conversation !! Thanks.

Sadly I must relay the news that record collector and record dealer John Powney has died. John had been ill for some time and was almost a recluse at his home in Hazlerigg just north of Newcastle. A hardy band of friends still rang him or visited, kept him company and helped with the bit of shopping he needed especially Dicka. A lifetime of smoking finally took its toll and recent medical help was to no avail. He was found today by close friend Paul 'Dicka' Dickson who called on Police to make a forced entry. Paul has asked me to do the social media platforms. Details of exact cause, funeral etc are not at hand at the moment. A short overview - John had very few rivals when it came to a knowledge of all things soul. He was literally an encyclopaedia in relation to artists, labels, songs and the total history of everything from his own recollection. Believe me he knew everything from doo wop, r'n b, northern etc right through to modern and beyond ! As a collector he had every tune through his hands and eventually sold them. I mean everything - Shrine to whatever, he had them all. He wrote sleeve notes etc, discovered the James Lately, DJ'd for a while, did list after list to an ever eager customer base and you know what... Never had a mobile, put out paper lists, wasn't on the internet, never had a PC and didn't have an email address. !! But... that was John. His lists right to the last one a while back meant ringing in at 8.30am on the date he advised. It was chaos every time but that's how it was. John also didn't give a jot for so called prices - he sold it for what he thought it was worth knowing a so called scarce record actually existed in its hundreds. There's so much more of course, but you get the picture - stubborn ? Yes. Single minded ? Yes. But he loved company. Helped so many with records and knowledge. Anyone could go into the back room and play records for hours. Oh and it was sacrilege to leave without any records. Whatever he was, whatever you may think, or if you knew him from the past or recently, I have tried to be humble with my words. John I know would nod and accept that. You're with a lot of those you told us about now mate - God bless. Tony Fiddes 3/6/2016

Any good mate ? Cheers Tony little dooley - you twine so fine.mp3 -
I've just caught up with this ad after a few days of the thread - first time watched both versions just now. Music we love, friends there for the same reason you are. Actually still going out and sometimes making the effort to look smart, be retro or different to the mainstream. The feeling you or I get when on ANY dance floor with the tunes we love blasting out. All I can say is - FFS take it all for what it is and just enjoy life. Politics of the scene just wear you down so yes have an opinion but so what - bags, vests, 70's clobber - so fkn what ! KFC, Lucozade, Shredded Wheat, SAGA ads, along with the never ending corporate style arranged big do's, reissues vinyl and Amazon (no corporation tax paid) CD cos it's the cheapest and free post ! Well they are all here and the consumer is part of it - that's us by the way. As they used to say on the t-shirts in the 80's - FK ART LET'S DANCE - well - FK AD'S LET'S DANCE ! Sermon over. ps - One local dayer type do I attend is usually fkd 2 hours after opening by mainstream knackers dancing with their drinks. Others just stand and gawp at the 'soulie types' dancing. If only it was full of Shredded Wheaters it would be class !

To answer the Q - Majestics for me ! Got the white demo David/Ruben many years ago then realised the Linda had an intro so... had that years as well. Still a DJ fill the floor certainty when it's a classics situation.

Yes and proud of it. It's a part of our lives and like most things a label that helps people identify what it is / might be. A big section of my non 'soul world' mates know I'm into what they call 'Northern Soul' and that I collect it. Half of them haven't got a fkn clue what it is from a rare soul POV and aren't bothered although they know the 20 greatest hits stuff. My 'soul mates' are a different set of circumstances - talking records etc. I'm also a bit of a Clash buff and collector so I must be a Clash City Rocker. Once I wore braces, Crombie and had me hair cropped so I must have be a Skinhead as well. Labels are just to explain who we are, where we've been and what we might stand for ! Ultimately we are many things whether we like it or not and IMO I think it's best to not be too hung up about it ! So - KEEP THE FAITH ! (Believe that phrase was another thread on here - ha ha !!)

That's all in the dead wax as per my scans!
