Glad to see the Backstreet Flyer found a good home and pride of place on the wall. Mark Chamberlin would be very proud (his art work) Cheers Frank (Norwich Backstreet soul club);

Hi, Its an interesting line of thought which does carry some truth behind it for me too. I'm 45 and following my route through being a teenage Mod / scooter rallies /allnighters etc.was kind of progessive in hearing new material . It was quite lucky for me as the guys who Dj'd in Norwich already had a good ear for good soul music. I guess during the early 80ts there was a "spring cleaning " of the Northern scene music . As mentioned above (Keb Butch Kitch , Rob Marriot etc )alot of Djs took it on board and played what they thought we should hear. Don't forget the dance floor did dictate whether the track was popular in some cases. It was always surprising that a track that had so much going for it was relatively unknown . This scenario spurned for me a thurst for discuovering new / forgotten vinyl (6ts newies etc). Personally i love hearing obscure numbers , especially as we develope an ear for the stuff . I guess Life line is a true example of how many of us fit into your Topic on here today. The scene is constantly evolving and fortunately its the quality that comes through in the end. Lets hope more materail is still waiting be be found. It still makes me wonder how many collectors out there have brilliant tracks that have not had air play yet. If there are any collectors out there who are sitting on boxes of new material , then come forward and share it with the thousands of soul fans who love it. Keep on keeping on regards Frank Norwich backstreet soul club. apologies if i digressed

Financial Backer Required For West London Soul Bar
Bossfourpart1 replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Nice idea , cannot finance it myself but like the idea of a soul bar . I believe Ali from Norwich is running a bar in London (not central ) and he was promoting the soul theme where possible. Yoou could tap into the scooter scene / Mods and so on . Getting some youth into work there would help especially if they are interested in the theme subject matter too. It all helps to promote it . Good luck and i hope you find some backers who can afford to take a gamble. cheers Frank (Norwich Backstreet ) p.s. who are you ? "Norwichbloke" -
Hi ALL , i love this track and i just do not hear it played out anymore (pretty tough one to dance to really) . James Wesley Smith , Talk about women , Angel town records . condition Ex+ or more .. Have not seen one for sale for a while so not too sure of price at the moment. A fair price will secure a deal. Let me know Regards Frank Norwich Backstreet soul club

I guess most people have heard the Frankie Valli track "Peggy" or remixes of it as it was quite big and gets air play regularly. Well when i first heard it in a bar , it struck me as a Northern soul track but i couldn't place it after the vocals came in (i had heard a different take but with the same piano rift ). Last week i checked out some of my old vinyl and pulled out THE GENTS, "TIME" - on Sound Impression (same label as Doni Burdock) . The B-side is the instrumental (probably sampled that section) It is the same backing track with the Haunting piano rift but with a good heavy section of Horns .. Check it out if you have the track. Cannot put it on a sample as i am at work don't have the facility ( should be working but this was bugging me ). Any one who has it can you place it on a clip for others . cheers Frank Norwich back street .

Check out some of the dealers in the scene . Sean Chapman had the last one i saw I've seen the white pressings of it priced at £15-£20 but they don't seem to turn up that often . As mentioned ealier it wasn't released. Frank

Hi All , just pulled this record out of my box last week and think it is worth a mention . Milton Hamilton and the Crystised Both sides are good but i like the Love Supreme despite it running for a few minutes nice Rare groove meets the Mecca sound. I can't quote the label (light blue in colour ) as i am at work and don't have it handy for reference. Does anyone out there know of when it was first spun ? and where ? and by whom ? So i can quote when i spin it at our local gigs. many thanks Frank Norwich Backstreet

Hi Jez , it was good to see you in Norwich last night at the Backstreet event. The Lou / lew track on Pad seems to have been a cut from the 12 '' for the beach scene then ! cheers Frank

whats todays going rate for this track ? Fabulous Caprices Camaro records A, groovy world b. My Love cheers Frank

Nice one Dave , you are right , it goes back a few years before Ian Levine . Billy , it gets played here at home in Norwich ie, the Backstreet gigs. Next gig in February . Kev Featherstone has a copy too and i believe he helped Shifty track down a few copies too. Apparently shifty managed to speak to the guy who produced the track (after a few call to the USA). The guys reply to Shifty was "I knew that was gonna be a hit some day" Great record . regards Frank

My Love on the B-side . Nice track . Whats the going rate on this these days, anyone ? cheers Frank

Good Tunes That Are Still Cheap To Buy
Bossfourpart1 replied to Ljblanken's topic in All About the SOUL
Most of Jackie wilsons singles are a good place to start then Bobby Bland , The Impressions.. these are still affordable and long lasting sounds. cheers Frank -
Hi , What a great record, i played it out in Norwich years back and it got lots of interest. Those same questions were asked then but i never followed up with any answers (no soul source then). It will be interesting to see what feed back you get on this one cheers Frank

With the search data held on Johns site, he can sum up how many hits there are. Naturally by putting it into auction he can see how badly some people want it. In this case how much they want to pay . it will be interesting to see what someone will pay for it. Quite amazing to think you would trip over this record again and again in the past, laying in a sellers box. Frank

I have both versions and i prefer Wade Flemon to listen to. As far as looks go i prefer to look at Susan Maughn rather than Wade . Both tracks are good regardless. cheers Frank

At the Norwich Backstreet soul club the Djs work for free . Some travel as far a Derby to support the event here . Admittedly a majority of the local Djs only live at most 40 miles away. I think given the number of Djs out there and providing they are not traveling hundreds of miles and stopping over in accomodation they should work for free. (thats it , i've started something now ) good topic , i will follow this with interest. regards Frank

Pat Brady had a copy for sale a while back for a £100. Some good tracks on the LP , Chris Bartley is rumoured to be one of the vocalists "aint got no love ". regards Frank Norwich -
Coincidently, i played this for the first time in years at the last Norwich backstreet gig in September and it was very well received. Glad to see inquiries about it , it deserves more plays. Have not seen it for sale for quite sometime. Cheers Frank
