  1. Ian Clarke, played this track on the site radio at the Great Yarmouth weekender at the Vauxhal holiday camp years ago. Managed to get one but wouldn't sell (sorry ). Also did a track called "in school" also on the same label. good luck . regards Frank "watch out for the Pusherman "
  2. Does anyone have any info on links between Jessica and Essica records. (apart from the J being dropped off one ). Apologies if this has been covered before. many thanks Frank (Norwich )
  3. Next Backstreet gig is on the March 29th , Keir hardy hall, guest Carl Fortnum. Billy still wears that shirt !!! lol. Billy are you Djing again ? cheers Frank
  4. It would seem to be a simple question but i guess the answers are quite complex. Given people travel great distances or drop in from around the corner and range in age from <18 to 60 + probably sums up the answers Some tunes just hit that soul spot for me and you hit the floor ! (regardless of the work load that week or the journey there ). I remember a gig in coventry once (above an ice skating venue ) and the floor was rough concrete from where the carpet floor tiles had been lifted , naturally the music one us and people danced regardless .... some tapped their feet , some clapped and some just listened and watched. Northern soul , Good music , good people , good dance floor , good beer , good record bar = dancers cheers Frank
  5. Billy , seen one for £100. cheers Frank
  6. many thanks Frank Norwich
  7. Hi Dave , i've got the Erica copy too, had it about 18 months, never heard it played out yet though. I am sure it is one that will take off soon. Have not seen the Lock copy before , which is rarer ? all the best Frank Norwich.
  8. Yes Nick , we had a good thing going then , Steve Jackson (RIP ) was a great Dj and good on the Microphone , great support from the Cambridge guys too , Max was very positive . We had gigs in the Iron monger PH, Black swan PH others. Chris is busy with family life these days but i keep up to date via Andy Etheridge. all the best Frank

  10. Sorry , i am at work and i do not have the dvd with me. It should be on the same episode as Sandra King "leave it up to the boys" . Perhaps someone else on SS has the same copy ? and can post it. cheers Frank
  11. I used to travel to Bradfordfrom Norwich alot , and later i used to travel up with Chris Huggins (Gt Yarmouth ) who put in spots in the modern room. I remember the sprung dance floor in the main room upstairs . Met some great people there . Didn't Nigel Parker have the Neurons "all of my life " ? cheers Frank Norwich Back street soul club
  12. question. I have just watched one of my SoulTrain episodes after a long time (gathering dust on the bookshelf ). Just realised that Peggy Gaines did a version of " One step ". Now I know Aretha did a good b-side with this number but i was wondering , did Peggy ever have this pressed on vinyl as it is a beauty of a track and i prefer her version still with the up most respect for Aretha (no pun intended) any feed back appreciated. regards Frank Norwich Backstreet soul club
  13. Yes Brighouse, your right it was.
  14. The owner of the Ringleaders during that decade was Andy Gill of Fakenham Norfolk as he was a regular visitor to Soul bowl and he spent alot of money with Mr.Anderson. Andy was a regular DJ at the Norwich Backstreet soul club spinning some great sounds. He used to spin the Tracks at the venues and knew the sound level pitch required. I remember that the AOML take had a longer intro than some of the other recordings of it. I remember we went to one Allnighter anniversary up north and as we walked in they gave us anniversary singles. When we looked at the titles one side had the Ringleaders on it L.O.L. I spoke to Andy the other weekend at Sunny Hunny and he still has some great vinyl. Its a great scene . regards Frank Norwich Back street .
  15. Billy , go for the " Cool off " as i know of at least 5 x copies of the Mighty lover are already kicking around in local Dj boxes. Have a nice "glass of cold pop " to think it over . Good classic oldie !!! cheers Frank
  16. I certainly used to play it out in Norwich at the Iron mongers PH and at the Norwich Backstreet nights . Still a great record, my mate Richard has a copy too. It has been lying low for a while now though. cheers Frank
  17. Hi there is a nice version by Verdelle Smith on Capital which is worth a spin too. Personally i prefer the Sonj take with the male Harmonies , I can't wait , I can't wait ....brilliant !
  18. Try John Manships site,

  20. I think the injection of the funk element is a good thing which should fuel the Northern scene's life span further . It generates interest and a different sound that i think compliments the northern various tune types out there. The tunes being played i find are hand picked based on their sound that fits into the scene. The majority of Djs out there that i have heard play these tunes have read the dance floor well and place it into their play list well on the night . This same principal applies to the Latin flavoured soul , Rn B , rare groove Jazz tinged tracks that have kept the listener interested for years .Personally the best nighters and soul nights i have enjoyed the most have had a hint of all these tune types being played. Drawing lines across music types which are vague in the first place tends to result in a difference of opinion , great food for thought and a good topic for this site. Lets hope it generates some more interest from the youth out there so they can realise what a great scene we have going . Regards Frank Norwich Backsreet S.C.
  21. I know what you mean , i first had it on Vanessa and had to really turn it up for more of a feel . Later found that Paula issues were around and finally tracked one down only to find yet again the sound quality wasn't too much better. Does anyone have this on demo and is it the same quality ? cheers Frank Norwich backstreet
  22. The Burnley nighter was the place to be last night . The atmosphere just kept on growing throughout the night . It was difficult to find a space on the dance floor , tune , tune ,tune Welldone all involved , Cheers Billy for the lift 4.5 hours each way , phew ! All the best frank . Willie , enjoyed your set , can you list your play list please (album tracks ) thanks Again...
  23. Hi good topic. For me the common gound was being with mates and drinking alcohol. The music was in the background on the rally scene when i used to go in the early eighties and we used to talk about certain tracks that were played at the allnighters "house of Bamboo" Earl Grant Suspicion etc etc .loads of stuff after the event. As we were Mods in those days we found there was a life style to be had and so we lived it. The Rallies involved the scooters with the variety and the rarity. We were not earning alot in those days so taking part just about emptied your pocket of your wages. Overtime the nighters and the Northern soul music took over ( the northern scene seemed more mature at the time) This seemed like a natural progression a little bit like the original mods moving into the soul music and the Ska scene. Now having done both and still being an active member of the soul scene and still having the scooters i can enjoy them both . But to be honest i would struggle to cross the country on one of my scooters today without suffering from a bad back and serious cramp in my hands. If you have experience in both scenes then i guess you can relate to more.More opened minded ???? I don't think so , more knowledgable about both scenes , yes . The two scenes have always complimented one another IMO. Long may they both continue Cheers Frank Norwich Backstreet soul club / Norwich Broadsmen Scooter club
