Hi Hammie , great to see you on the night ! I really enjoyed our soul banter while spinning some tunes on the night. You did also spin the Limitations to add to your list. Glad you got home ok. all the best Frank -

Caught the "Happy" performance from start to finsh while flicking through the channels late last night. It had a great "get up and dance" feel to it and looked really good and then i caught sight of the dancers . At this point i froze . Then as i watched i could see they were having a great time doing their "kick -drop and spins ! " It is extremely difficult to find any filmed footage that captures our great scene with its hair tingling , foot tapping atmospheric Grip ! Last nights performance was "Staged " but good and with a Modern day twist. I liked it . Lets hope a flood of genuine interest from younger blood fuels the scene for the future. Frank

Thanks Dave , i had a hunch " Willie S n Curtis S "were the same guy. I'll get you a pint in the Blue Posts. many thanks for the info everyone. cheers Frank

Timed Clapping was a combination of Passion and Praise for tunes. I remember Colin Law clapping at tunes in the 80ts , it sounded like a couple of pieces of "Rosewood blocks" hitting together , tremendous sound. In Djing terms it gives you feedback from the crowd as to how much they liked a track, that includes those who prefer not to dance and clapping from the sidelines. "Keep the clapping faith" Frank

Great record , a real little grower .

The records in those Dj playlists reminds me of the sounds being played in the mid to late 80ts, great years with great records. Good to see the Upfronts being spun. What was the colour of the 1st press "light blue " ? Like that "Stoned on love" number too (managed to get one a few years back ). Certainly my kind of sounds, all winners !

Future of Northern soul. No crystal ball available. I guess the scene could go a number of ways. If the Youth take it up in great numbers then it would be moulded into something they want it to be , with their stamp on it.They would eventually run their own venues getting away from the more established events over time.Lets us older ones stand back and watch it grow. If the youth only turn up in small numbers then i guess the events would have a small presence by them and the scene would tick along for as long as we are still around. Then who knows !! If the youth pull out then i guess the events would turn into Northern soul coffee lounges with a very small dance floors and early finsh times (late evenings ). Personally i would rather not think about it too much as it could paint a depressing picture. One thing for certain is that we should encourage and promote the scene with and to the Youth if they are interested and provide it as a means of getting away from that Force fed commercial music stuff thats lacks pedigree. The great thing about the Northern soul scene is that it is ours !!! Live long and prosper... cheers Frank p.s. 100 club is on this Saturday , a great introduction to the scene if you are new to it.

More Norfolk Soul - East Anglian Stylee This Time
Bossfourpart1 replied to Roburt's topic in All About the SOUL
I believe there is a nice write up on Mr.Lucas in soul up North, worth a read. Lucas is still about in Norwich as mentioned earlier. I used to see doing the Pub circuit during the 80ts , great smooth voice and a really nice guy. A mate of mine recently dug up a copy of one of his numbers that he hadn't heard for years. Quite an emmotional moment for Lucas as he reflected back to the day he recorded it. I do recall some USAF guys taking a hiding from some locals outside Pennies Night club at 01.00 am on a Sunday morning "in 1984" . Quite a brawl !! There was mention of J Hendrix doing a gig in a Pub in Dereham Norfolk in the 6ts. Lots of history in Norfolk with USAF (and a little in Suffolk) interesting stuff. cheers Frank -
I was just flicking through the recent issue of Scootering and came across an interview with Ady Croasdell and 30 years of Kent records. A nice read and good insight into his path into the scene. "The Kent influence" This may have been covered by others before but for me i didn't realise how much the Kent Lp supply influenced my taste into the music until i started to read the track listings again. Much to my surprise i found that i had cherry picked lots of numbers off the LPs , which i now have on original 7'inch vinyl. How many of you out there have had the same "Kent influence" to your collections ? Welldone Ady , keep up the good work and see you at the 100 Club (another great influence). ATB ,Frank Webster Norwich.

It might be worth your while just checking completed sales on ebay for similar copies that you have , just to get a value. The other option is to search other soul record sites to see what they are charging for the same records bearing in mind condition / quality. If your want the best price then take your time , if you want to sale quick then tempt the buyer with a good price. Selling in packs is a good way to get rid of the cheaper numbers. Also take a sales box to the events as they tend to shift there too. good luck cheers Frank

As this record has just come up on the "Wants" section , it deserves mentioning here too. RAY WILLIAMS , GONNA GET EVEN ON SPACE RECORDS. Lyrics. I was in Vietnam, couldn't get home , said that you would be true to me while i was gone, you cheat on me , you just can't win !!! cheers Frank

Ray Williams - Gonna Get Even On Space Records
Bossfourpart1 replied to adamt's topic in Look At Your Box
Gonna get even with you ! Yes it was my set at the 100 club gig a while back, it originally came off my mate Dj Andy Gill (Fakenham Norfolk ), i believe he got it off Jon Anderson (soul bowl).I believe both Andy Gill and Andy Rix have met before , not too sure who found the record first but it has been a big spin in Norwich since the late 80t's. I think Ray Williams other number "No Quitting" was a big spin at Bradford years back by Nigel Parker (Boston Linc) (which came from Soul bowl too). This is all i can remember to the best of my Poor knowledge. I put it on tape for John Powney years back and then it popped up on a compilation tape being sold by Jon Manship !!! That was the last time i put it on tape!! I believe there are other copies out there but stuck in collectors vaults. Great record with a solid Sax break. Never seen one for sale , so good luck ... regards Frank Webster Norwich backstreet soulclub. -
Sean , "Carry on Regardless", for me you played the best sounds at Sunny Hunny last November. Shame you are not on this year !!! You are always wellcome at the "Backstreet soul club". ATB Frank

After a gig i am well aware of how vunerable i am With the Records on board as i head to the car park. Most of it is paranoia as only i know how much they are worth. But still it is on my mind until i put them away. In the venues .... well fortunately Soulies are to the most "good people " but you still have to use your common sense and not "put temptation" within crasping distance. I remember a gig near Doncaster a few years back "Lifeline". Butch was Djing and a little while later the fire alarms went off !!! We all left via the nearest exit into the car park. There was no smoke but still the alarms were set off. Then someone mentioned that Butch was still in the building (guarding his records )."who can blame him", wouldn't you ? As previous , records are valuble today but the sentimental link and the years of amassing the collections carries more pain if they are lost. "or even ,soul destroying" look after them !!! cheers Frank

jessica 401 willie small how high can you fly / say you will (eddie silvers) essica 404 curtis smith the living end / say you will (curtis smith) both records have the same "say you will " on them and have Angie music BMI on them , I have played the tracks and they have the same delivery of "say you will". I can only assume that Willie Small and Curtis smith are the same person!!!
