  1. Thanks for posting the link. I watched it and enjoyed it. Also watched the other 3 short films too and all worth watching. One each on the three different genres - Teds, Mod, Skinhead

    Is this a wind up?
  3. RIP Donna Summer - Queen of disco! Remember buying the "Donna Summer" album when it first came out (1976?) & playing it over and over again. What a sad loss at such a relatively young age
  4. Black Eyed Peas - "Smallest Man Alive" - what a dirge
  5. Brilliant - just can't beat uptempo Motown, especially the Spinners! That's the best I've heard for a long time What's the story behind these Ady? Have I missed something, or will all be revealed i.d.c.?
  6. Ritz @ Brighouse - now that These Old Shoes is no more (RIP) - that concrete dance floor at the River Bar was legend
  7. Excellent! - one of the true greats of Motown (and there were many)!!
  8. Yes Geoff, remember it well. Liked it so much, after Steve had given us the low down, returned from Cleethorpes and sourced mine same day! Can't imagine who that would have been who branded it "disco" though As we've often discussed - whatever, disco just another form of soul music
  9. First heard this spun by Steve Womble a few years ago in Modern Room at Cleethorpes Weekender. Great record. Didn't think it was that rare/hard! Found a US demo on Manships website straight away. Think I paid £8 for it He's got an issue for sale https://www.raresoulm...CONNORS,_NORMAN at £8 if you want one Andy. (sorry Keith )
  10. Had some excellent nights at Sheriden's on my occasional return visits to W Yorks. Venue was excellent place for NS and the records played there were too Seemed to be one of those places which very quicky gained a reputation as a very up front venue so most people I bumped into in various parts of the country had made the effort to get there at some time or other! Remember being there one night and there was no heating. Mick H was on that night and, him being in the building trade, from somewhere they found this bloody big generator they rigged up to provide some heat - weren't you in on that Chalky?
  11. Go to Florida twice a year. Rock & Roll Heaven in Orland worth a look. Usually pick up a few Motown bits but nothing special, although on my last visit found a Flrtations "Nothing But A Heartache" on Deram, mint copy only $4! They have got boxes of records under a counter which haven't been sorted yet. There are some soul records in there but they're in artist order, as far as I remember but would imagine anything of value has been pulled and listed on ebay but you never know if you're prepared to do the leg work and sift through them. Found a few bits at a local flea market, including a Jackie Wilson "I've Lost You" for $1. There's another record shop not too far from R&R Heaven, can't remember the name, loads of LP's but absolute zilch soul 45's. Done lots of local towns thrift stores (2nd hand shops) but most of em don't have any 45's at all. If you're staying in Sarasota, Tampa might be worth a visit. Miami - I haven't look for records yet but based on that city's soul input (70's especially) I'd be surprised if there's nothing there. Mainly, however, I suspect that Florida's already been done big time by visiting Brits and the only way you might get lucky might be at a flea market, garage/yard sale when someone on the day just might be selling a collection
  12. Nothing changed Mark? Think for most of us now it's more like 7 hours looking at records then 1 hour dancing
  13. Soul In The City - Celeste Hardie - You're Gone
  14. A little off topic but being from Bradford (well Bingley actually) can anyone fill me in with a little more history on the "String O Beads". I started frequenting the Continental/Hole In The Wall around '68 when I was 14 and just getting into soul music so slightly too young for SOB! As I recall it got shut down due to drug raids but was it an out and out soul club, or just a disco playing a few wheel sounds etc.? Over to you Stu, Derek, Julian etc,?
  15. It is a hard one to find and most of em seem to be knackered!. Not very well known and I'd been looking for this for two years after hearing Des Parker spin it at Solid Hit Soul in London. One finally came up on ebay recently and I got it for the princely sum of $21.30 although it's vg at best it plays ok with a couple of crackles and pops at the beginning Pete, will let you know if I come across another!
  16. Invitations - What's wrong with me baby"
  17. Don't think he did - Bremner shit himself when McKay grabbed him by the shirt
  18. T'other side "Always Room For One More" none too bad either
  19. Thanks for those two recommendations Ian, just ordered em from Amazon Best thing about the Philly stuff (singles) is most of it's readily available and inexpensive! Was the Teddy P "You Can't Hide From Yourself" released as a single in the US, or LP track only?
  20. Couldn't agree more Pete - like chalk & cheese
  21. My last 5, all US label reasonably cheapies! Vito & The Salutations - I'd Best Be Going - Sandbag (always thought this would have been hammered had it been rare/expensive) Spinners - I Just Can't Help But Feel The Pain - Motown Spinners - Sweet Thing - Motown Sadane - One Minute From Love - Warner Bros (7") Oliver Cheatham - Get Down Saturday Night - MCA (7")
  22. That must be the bargain of all time Alan so I'll have it, or have you missed off a 0?
