  1. You know what? That last post has just reminded me that I've read some bizarre insensitive laddy posts on this thread that were beyond belief. The Beeb didn't stand for insensitivity, why did this board?
  2. I would concur on times past - but I think the urgency of those early 'discovery' days have gone - Northern had a thread, a disjointed one given, but it did have a definate thread. For example when Searling was at his height introducing killer discoveries from all era's. It is very few and far between I've heard anyone captivate a dancefloor in such a manner since. On the back of that though, haven't we all matured since then, learnt more, have more of an informed view? With the more informed views that we as punters have these days, shouldn't a dj's set revolve more about how he puts a group of records together, be they rare, well-known or whatever?
  3. I'm shit at both of those son - but much better at others - that I'll give you. Anyway, have you a reposte?
  4. It strikes me that there's a definate lack of respect going on here. Anyone can have a pop on the back of their own 'oh so correct' views, knowing they'll be backed up by reliable members - but there seems to be a definate vacuum as regards who has the relevant view, and how that view has been earned. We've all attended, listened and danced to a lot - but have we formed anything? I'm not saying that I agree with the whole of Ian's movements but who am I to state that his movements are crap, like some have during the swings and roundabouts of this thread. Nowt's crap - honest; you may not like it, and you may find solace in others by having a secluded yet open pop on boards like this but I'm telling you now "It's not big and it's not clever!" Have your views but don't get carried away with it all folks - show a little respect. Is this a classic 'barry' post? I hope so.
  5. Could it be argued that a great deal of the passion and involvement that moves a scene on be borne of lonely moments? I've noticed that I have on accassion been most soulfully ambulant, as it were, when I've not had an all consuming love interest. Therefore could it be argued that a great deal of furtherance on this, or any scene, be borne of a want of belonging? Hands up those single dealers and collectors and dj's.
  6. I think Ian's ace, or at least dead interesting and relevant - and so must you all, surely as this is a MONSTER of a thread. True?
  7. A good point - do collectors make good dj's? Is Sam (for example) a collector. or a dj? I see Searling as a lover of this music, Brian Rae too, many others also - but - do I put other moivers and shakers on this scene in the same bracket as those lads? If I'm honest, the answer is 'no'. To play records to a floor, you need to have at some point been a punter, part of that dancefloor - many name jocks over the years have never been that. Do I rest my case? Tell me.
  8. James Lewis - 'Manifesto' and Frankie Crocker's - 'Ton Of Dynamite' remind me of M's. As a matter of fact I remember 'TOD' being the first record I actually plucked up courage to ask the title to whilst in M's - it was Wayne Hackett I asked (still see him at Lowton occassioanlly with Mickey Davy, both Leigh lads). Anyone remember the formula to the placement of the wood-cladding in M's foyer btw...or was that just me?
  9. You also managed to give my an answer that I already knew and got me to believe that I didn't know it. NEXT!!
  10. That was a very clever way of keeping me happy and shutting me up at the same time mate, and for that I'm grateful - well done.
  11. It's a quagmire innit ha ha?
  12. Obviously, if the fella in question is not giving a varied set - which appears to be the problem given the recurrence of that statement in this thread.
  13. In relation to having more dj's.
  14. Right, I'm obviously disappearing up me own...."PHOOT!"
  15. i That's what a dj should be able to do though, no!? Yes, but how long would he get away with being booked if he made you feel that way?
  16. Given, but you know that in general jocks showcase certain stuff within that first hour and how often do you see anyone go down any other route?
  17. Same old, same old then (I knew it would be really love ). Yeah, please keep in touch and abreast of your's and 'Darlings' antics - me boards back up if you need to catch me. Oh! And I'd leave the hernia bit, it's a no-no.
  18. There's something about that that doesn't quite read right - but I'll leave it.
