I understand and commiserate mate - but by not paying you, is this not the ultimate accolade of a true Soul Lover? I mean their obvious love/need/desire behind obtaining a track on vinyl obviously smothers their morals to a point whereby 'You' don't get paid; meaning their love of this music transcends all - even to the point of shitting on their mates. Is it a bad thing when it comes to proving how much you love this music? Pete Lawson did a lot worse and we/I still love what he stood for. Tongue in cheek reply to a very sincere post I know - but I think there is a morsel of truth in their somewhere - your mates mean less than a certain 7" single. Isn't that what this music can do to you? By the way, love the colour work on your fonts.
  2. Now now 'Lovely Boys', hope you all are well!? If you are an integral part of a scene, could be any scene, does this bring you Brownie points ie: on the NS for example, does it make you more of 'A Soulie'? I would think yes, but only on the given scene. If you are not part of a scene, any scene etc, would this lower your status ie: etc? I would think yes, but only on the given scene. Given the above statements, would it be a true third statement that for us to be a 'Real Soulie' (sceney?), we must be am attendee? Hope you all are well. Love Baz x

Are you a Soul Suicide Bomber Chrissie? That unprovoked poisonous little vitriole of yours speaks volumes. Stevie Wonder has never been here just to please you and your tastes 'love', just to spread his genius to those able to understand. I'll bet Stevie would pick holes in some of your 'going out' shoes over the years - if he could have seen 'em that is - but you didn't buy your shoes for Stevie to like did you? Soooo....Stevie has made a few bad records and you have worn crap shoes. Settled.

James! James, James, James! Now I don't know who to have a pop at here? You alone, or the seven (that's Errrr Yah - '7'!!) pages of folk that have understood your question well enough to reply with tracks that strangely make sense within the context of your initial 'odd' question. Nowt 'twisted' about the left-fielders mentioned on this thread, all simply tracks that got played and were given enough dancefloor space to be deemed 'Northern Soul' records - although I did laugh to the immediate 'Cleethorpes' response. Northern Soul is a democracy, the majority deem that term - now, marginalise yourself by all means, be a Lib Dem if you must. The dancefloor dictates....err....and I'll leave it at that I think!?

See! You too are a Soul Terrorist Michael! Careful now, it's too easy a path to fall into mate. Keep yer eyes peeled - you're everwhere!

I don't know Mike if I'm honest. My posts are cryptic simply for the fact that I am seeking answers. I don't post with some underlying current mate. I simply hope that by, whatever, replies I get may assist me in my search for thrue Soul Karma. Am I taking the piss? If you knew me, you'd know.

Try and be confident in what you like as a 17 year old (supposed) knob faced with a load of Alpha's on Pondies somewhere North of Buzzard. The word 'brutal' has been used in this thread as regards the 80s - and it was a well thought out word to use too. Times have changed yes, but so have the the people that purported to love this music. Of course there are still some of the Old Guard about, but as someone correctly pointed out above (the '57 seater' reply), a lot of the feckers that gave it the 80's 'I am' for a spell - aren't. This scene, like all 'scenes', confuses me somewhat as I have had the life that has enabled me to be in touch with it over its course. The 80's were definately the NS scenes teenage years - huffing and puffing, proving itself, the 'look at me' years. Today, due to time and nothing more (age makes you lazy), the scene has definaltely hit middle age - can't quite be arsed but look good when you can. It has taken years for people to realise that they can be as much of a Soul Terrorist as yester-years 80's type by simply being nice about it..... Today you can be made an example of on an international scale (that's thousands of people looking in - not thirty three in Corley Services) by someone who imparts their knowledge in an 'understanding' and 'caring' manner. Todays Soul Terrorists are still alive and kicking, they simply smile today.
  9. Correct but an instant floor packer in its day all the same mate - other Wigan plays would be hard pushed to beat it for conviction-driven in unison hand claps (I drew that out a bit didn't I?). An awesome Wigan moment.
  10. I'll give you some of my Wigan floor packers: The Seeds - Pushin' Too Hard Roger K - Give Me The Love The Vibrations - Cause Your Mine The Nite-Liters - K-Jee The Deadbeats - There'll Be No... The Royal Esquires - Ain't Gonna Run The Q - That's The Way The Nomads - Somethings Bad "Ah Ba Bap Aah Yay!"

When is someone gonna take the Soulie by the Bowling Shirt and start releasing NS based wallpapers and carpets. We all loved Corries Hilda's 'muriel'... ...Oh how we larfed, but how many of us, really, would love to have a Mel Britt 'muriel' behind us as we sat cabbaging on the couch? Just think about racking up on a circular etched glass coffee table with a depiction of a Cecil Washington 7" etched therein? Or ringing yer mates doorbell, then noticing the bell-push was a perfect enamel rendition of an obscure Stateside demo? There's got to be some legs in that man surely? 400,000 members at Wigan alone!!? Come on!
  12. Ta for the reply mate. I'll check it but listening to the GF version and your input I'll say they are the same track for now. Until someone, maybe, puts me straight. Regards Barry

Remember BITD when there was a definitive line between the 'Shepherds' and 'The Sheep', a time when there were 'Real Collectors' and just 'Us Punters'? In the 70's it didn't seem to be a 'thing', we sheep simply accepted that we didn't have the money, the looks, the records, the clothing nor the 'Joi de Vivre'(sic) to be one of the upper eschalons (Alpha's) on our personal NS scene. They were just better than us, no problem, that was the Status Quo. Then came the 80's when NS and it's PP took on a different look, the drugs changed, cliques were formed as did certain peoples outlooks, and PP took on a whole new look. Enter the Soul Terrorist! You were f*cked in the Services on the way home if you didn't know a particular uncovered c/u or label or, whatever! Maybe I just got picked on ha ha. Spin forward to today...okay? Now everyone has sussed that after years of practice, they too can be an Alpha, not through want or need...'Alphaism' just comes after being a Sheep for years. I suppose to a degree I'm a Sheep too. Bear with me, I'm as lost right now as you: Is todays all loving, all caring, information sharing Soulie any better than Yester-Years Soul Terrorists? After all, imparting knowledge gained may as well be done with a smile on your face as a snarl and a smirk. Beware the 'Smiling Tiger'. Mmmmmm!

If it comes down to making it look as easy as breathing - Vernon from 'Bradfot' had it (spinning especially) nailed.
  16. Excuse my ignorance my man but has the 'SITP' reference anything to do with Georgie Fame? I ask as me and't t'wife have just been up to Southport for a late drink with Yogi and I played the arse out of 'SITP' by GF all the way home. You gonna say now 'No' aren't you?

I don't know? Tell me Mossy! The Weekender thing has come to fruition of late (the last ten years or so) due to the simple fact that peoples working lives don't able them to go out weekly as such, so they have an occasional blow out at 'The Weekender' (Southport, Creamfields, Prestatyn, Lockstock and Two Smokin' Students...wherever). Now any Weekender costs a bob or two to attend, and some just like football tickets are out of reach to many, true? What I'm asking is, I think, have Weekenders lowered the musical standards by simply becoming a place whereby meeting up with your 'National' friends holds a greater percentage vote with you and yer missus than the music that is played there? Does that make sense?
  18. Barry posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
...sorry 'early' but, and this is a true question (not in anyway a pop you Mods - I'm on me Final Warning it seems): Have Weekenders become simply a place for folks to gather and reminisce? Do they offer the same verve with their rosters and playlists today? Is there still an urgency there, to educate? Now, I don't mean 'shove one up' other collectors and jocks by dropping an unknown da di da - I mean a real passionate urgency? I ask as I don't have much experience of Soul Weekenders of late and am going off my own limited resources ie: Southport (which is, and has been for a while, lacking in real Soul content). Do Weekenders today offer the correct variety, quality and Va Va Voom that they should, or have they, like SP become simply a weekend whereby people who don't see each other that often (with enough money that is) go to meet up?

  22. Speaking of 'Fylon Records' (sic -as f***) I'm off to bed. Big love to you all, once again it was a task I loved to be involved with. You'll miss me. Give my love to yer Mum. Regards 'Bouncin'
