  1. Again I may be wrong but I'm sure I first heard it played on the scene in '82 but never at Rotherham.
  2. Not saying you're wrong Rob but I don't remember him or anyone playing it at Rotherham.
  3. Andre Crouch - Got Me Some Angels From the 'No Time To Lose' album - can't find the album cut just this live version - nice dancer on the album.
  4. One very big scene DJ is renowned for flicking through the other dj's boxes behind the decks while they are playing and sticking his 'wants' into his own box. Been caught on numerous occasions.
  5. Same here - a lot of 'em turned up at Lowton two week later.
  6. Leon Patillo - I'll Never Stop Loving You Bobby Jones - I Am Somebody Kingdom - Don't be Afraid Brothers In Christ - Gods Armor Helen Baylor - Oasis Helen Baylor - Victory
  7. Thank you for that - I did mean the lookalikes though.
  8. Billy's son Lee was one of the main dance DJ's in Liverpool throughout the 90's - but he never had his Dads taste.
  9. ...we're both in danger of talking twaddle...
  10. You're right of course. All I'm trying to make you see is that just because the Funk thing wasn't on your radar bitd doesn't mean it didn't happen to a large extent in Liverpool. I've only got my chats with the older Liverpool lot to go off and maybe the soul thing wasn't on their radar - six of one ay!? - I've seen a few known Funk venues named on this thread and very few solid soul clubs. Let's call it quits.
  11. Well there we go Denbo - if I'm talking out me arse about Liverpool being funk influenced then you are about it being a soul hotbed.
  12. I never knew that any Backbeat had been booted.
  13. Were the soul clubs better attended than the funk clubs Denbo?
  14. Sorry Harry - just seen this.
  15. Don't sweat it mate - Richard has been called 'Richard Sterling' by many a Soulie to this day - it makes me want to pull me eyes out.
  16. Kev Edwards, Bad Ass, Ray Rose and myself did Ragga's on Hardman Street Liverpool for a couple of years in the early 90's. Owned and destroyed by Black Joe the Yardie, it was hugely popular for a spell, coaches from all over came - had the LFC team members in every week. As a matter of fact we had John Barnes, Jamie Redknapp and a few other players at ours buying soul music weekly (Barnesy had a penchant for £50 dodgy imported kung-fu VHS too ).
  17. Bob on. Back then everything had to be learned by effort, be that effort attending various events, looking through boxes, ordering lists, or even making/receiving tapes off ov yer mates. Knowledge collection these days is so much easier.
  18. Al's council 'house' (he actually lived in a rented property) in Cheetham Hill had been turned into a Blues specific venue. The whole house was wallpapered with posters, the front room had tweeters screwed into either side of the fire breast and the bass bin was actually in the fireplace, the kitchen had a counter blocking it off from the dining area for serving ale over and the decks had been screwed into where the sink should have been. It all came to a head during the inter-city troubles when someones motor got blown up outside. Crazy place after dark.
  19. Haha - yeah same thing - me and Bad Ass (Alex Yearwood) used to do a lot of 'em in the 90's in Manc and Liverpool - used to be a bit on top in Manc when Cheetham Hill and Moss Side weren't getting on though.
  20. A big shebeen scene in the 60's/70's too.
  21. Lats time I saw John he turned up with Desa at one of our OHS all dayers - passon my heartfelts please mate?
