  1. A few of my faves off the cuff: Ernesta Dunbar - Checking Out Demetrius - I'll Be There Rome Jeffries - Good Love Keith Nunnally - Seasons Of Love Hunter Hayes - It's Not Over Gary Vonqwest - Victim Of Your Love
  2. He did actually post that on FB after the PM I got - so I'm not stiffing him here.
  3. Keb Darge ha ha ha.. Steve Johnston. However the good records I played were spread over a 7 year period. I actually think I was better after Stafford, simply because I had a wad of money and Jim Wensiora let me have most of his newies when he sold up. Even then take any one set of mine, put it along side any Richard Searling set at Wigan, or indeed any Butch set since I packed in and you will find I win on the "which set has the most amount of drivel in it" score card. I mean my set would be the worst overall.
  4. ...and so it begins.
  5. Keb Darge By the way I am talking about my own sets, not the whole of Stafford... Guy did play more great stompers than I did. I had a sort of private war going on with Soul Sam at the time so in response I tried to play more black stuff. Silly me. I also must say I loved Sam then and still do.
  6. It's a night out for some folk - let 'em have a bit a fun.
  7. Keb Darge Wooops not true I did play bootlegs at the Stafford 25 year thing
  8. Keb Darge OOh I can't post on Soul Source. Some chap slagging me off for not answering his questions on my You Tube videos ? I don't have any You Tube videos ?? Didn't play bootlegs, and am proud to say I didn't jump on funk because it was popular... I made it popular... ha ha ha Can someone stick this on Soul Source for me please ???
  9. Interesting but Steve's just seeing his view of Keb - subjective.
  10. ...and that's bang on in my opinion.
  11. I can see a new thread off the back of this: Name your Top Five Stafford Easily Forgotten Drivel Tracks
  12. .
  13. Kebs reply: Keb Darge Oh I still love a few of them, but not nearly as many as I do from Wigan. You got one thing horribly wrong though..... IT'S NOT KEV..... IT NEVER WAS KEV !!!!!
  14. First reply: I must admit Kev.I found Stafford boring back then. But over the years i have warmed to quite a few great sounds that were played there, and now one or two of them are my all time favs.
  15. From FB: Keb Darge Just sent this in a private conversation with John Walker, and felt I should stick it up here so I can put the cat among the pigeons then giggle at the responses from the "pure soul" brigade. "To be honest... I listen to my Stafford sets today on various podcasts, and find them very dull compared to Wigan. Fair enough I did play a few great tunes over the years, but they were mixed in with a mass of easily forgotten drivel. We tried to prove the point that the newies of the day were soulful, and neglected the excitement of a tune. I really believe that the "it must be a black singer" attitude made the scene of the eighties and early nineties very boring... ha ha ha and I helped create that daft attitude...."
  16. You been there Byrney
  17. You get added to some groups by the people who start them, without your knowledge that is. You only notice when you get reems of Yvonne Baker, Bobby Paris vids plastering your wall At which point you take yourself out of the group. These groups and how big they are show you how many retro types there are out there.
  18. Your Fb page has a pic with you with headphones on dunnit Winnie ;0) haha
  19. Look on Facebook - and I apologise if this encompasses you - at the amount of fella's/lads with their headphones on/at the decks in their main photo...it really is not a good look. If you scream, "I'm a DJ!!", then you generally aren't.
  20. Annie - "...so this thing preceded Acid House then?" Russ - "Definately!" Love the Very BBC narration too: "...occassionally paying up to £200 for a particularly rare single!" Why £200 particularly??
  21. Just listening now...."KEEEP THE FACE!"
  22. I've been djing/promoting on the black music scene since the early/mid 80's, all ends of it - and I like to think I know the score about what rings peoples bells. I do a couple of monthlies in my hometown of Warrington. I don't play bad music, yes, there's stuff that folk won't have heard but on the whole it's quite an uncomplicated night - as in, you'll know the majority of em. Good time Soul. But - it's a big deal if anyone related to this scene turns up at 'em - and very few do - and there's a lot of Soulies in my town. And to be honest - I'm glad. As it isn't all about making the night another anal passage , it's about me enjoying myself and getting the message across to people who aren't particularly 'Soulies' per se. That may be the problem with some nights being under-attended, as making it 'this underground thing' counts a lot of people out. Make it accessible.
