  1. Was our very first flyer.
  2. Mine was Daybreak too - £50.
  3. Is that Leee Johns dad? Cool.
  4. I don't think you have to water anything down or turn it into a night club rave Baz, Dave Hawkins and myself never did at the QH years ago, we just mixed it up with quality soul music. We didn't mix either as to do so obviously cuts down your options both musically and direction-wise. I've heard a few lads on the NS scene try to mix at do's and all I'm saying is if you can't - don't. I'm just going off what I've seen happen on the US house scene in this country (the Southport Weekender related scene if you will). Five years ago I and a few other like mindeds up and down the country started little nights off playing house/soul/disco etc to basically a house orientated younger crowd, 20 to 35. Five years down the line these same youngsters spend almost as much time seeking out older soul/disco tracks than they do house - it is a part of their lives, and more to the point, part of the reason they attend certain nights - the reason they came initially was on the back of house beats but they left with a whole lot more. Why can't this happen at a niter? I totally agree on the point of keeping the Northern rooms Northern and I take it there are some niters that are getting youngsters in from what you say Baz!?
  5. Hope everyone had a good weekend. What's the situation nowadays with niters and soulful house stuff. I ask as I keep reading things about attendances and the age thing etc. I know it's not everyones cuppa tea an' that but how else can youngsters be enticed to attend or begin to enjoy the soulful side of things. Are there many niters catering in their modern rooms/sets for house stuff at all?
  6. They do have a 4/4 house kick and hi hat I'm afraid Phil. The Flame n King I had to completely re-work as it was from an accapella, the Ivan Neville is about 7 minutes long and I suppose to the untrained ear sounds pretty similar but we spent about a week and a half building chords etc, it is a fairly large re-working in some respects, the Willi J & Co was difficult as we were trying to sample a section but a snare was in the way, so we got about three bass players in and here's just two of the comments from them 'Whoever played that bassline had seven fingers' - 'He must have had a nine inch middle finger haha. I'll find 'em.
  7. Listening to those great mixes of M.O.U. and W.I.T.W. put me in mind of a few I've done over the years - I should still have them around somewhere. I did re-edits/mixes of Ivan Neville 'DYBA', Flame n King's 'OHD', Willi J & Co's 'BWYB' amongst others. I used to play them at our OHS do's and about. They may be a little too much for some but I tried to keep 'em in keeping mostly and true to themselves. I'll have a dig and post 'em.
  8. If no luck Derek, hi lives about 2 minutes from my place of work - just give us a knock and I'll nip round.
  9. I'llhave a go for you too mate, I'll pm if any luck.
  10. Don't know if this any help but as has been said you'll struggle to get dd turntables at that price. There's someone posted this on our site... https://www.onhubertstreet.co.uk/mb/viewtop...9&highlight= ....but the lot is £300, and they are not perfect - but I think a fair price for what they are.
  11. Fairly basic, cheap and with no weight to 'em. If you're buying them to mix with too, they will drive you up the wall.
  12. Cheers Glyn, thought as much, had about £300 in my head.
  13. Wasn't 'I'll nail your liver to a door' in ther somewhere too?
  14. Any info? Cheers
  15. I remember Slave in full flow at Zanzibar in Glasgow in the early 80's coming round on a revolving stage. Found out later that the stand in bass player was one Larry Houston.
  16. I've some quality b&w's of him in the dancing comps at Wigan somewhere - beautiful to watch that fella.
  17. Anyone remember Vernon from Bradford (@ Wigan)?

I bid for the JJ Caillier last week for a friend, a friend who doesn't/can't spend a great deal of time on the net, or buying too many records out anymore - he gave me an amount to bid for it (I'll not say how much as I will piss Lars off, whom I eventually bought it from) - and that was that. What I'm saying is, if you want it and it's there and you can afford it....then you'll pay it....and a lot of people are in that situation these days...not enough time to go looking but the money to buy it if it is there...and John's site is known to more than most. Money talks.
  20. Freddy Butler - That's When I Need You (Bought from Brian Rae's 3 for a quid box at Wigan). J.J. Caillier - Pusherman
  21. Quite a dear little number too, I got £170+ about two year back for one.
  22. Ay oop Robin, wasn't it... 'Kids at school used to laugh at me, leather patches, pants outworn' I always smiled so that they didn't see, The tears I held deep inside of me' Picked my first copy up in Leicester Oddfellows early 80's for £2, made up to f*ck. I made the mistake of leaving it on the table at the services on the way home, went for a piss and hey presto the 60's Mafia had a new ash tray. Bastards.
  23. It will eternally remind me of shuffling alongside Yogi (Haughton) at Rotherham and looking down at my talcy blue Top Man moccasins....for some reason.
  24. Many thanks to Lars for coming up trumps.
