  1. I remember when we were kids thinking 'Sweeter Than The Day Before' was 'Seeea-Lions Ten Feet Tall'
  2. I paid £8 for the black label at Wigan and £20 for the coloured Nasco 10 year back.
  3. I'm amazed at how many people in this thread seem to have a proper bee in their bonnet about somebody sewing a patch on their jacket, to the point of condescending...bless. I don't think scooter lads look silly with their patches on, I think soul tattoos look fookin' great, I think young lads at soul do's dressing in pegs and the like look cool as and I think fella's who can still carry it off look fookin' great iwith their patches - all my opinion yes...but at least it was a positive one. Come on you stuffy bunch a' baskets.
  4. Oooh, don't people get aeriated about stuff - they are p.a.t.c.h.e.s. they won't bring down the scene.
  5. There was something about it on here recently, I think the general consencus was it was a bit azzy. Myself, I love me patches, wouldn't part with 'em for the world.
  6. Parted with my Manzel about two year back, regretted it ever since.
  7. I've noticed, for years, that there has always been a strange predeliction with asking £10, £20+ for recently released 'house' records that are deemed soulful enough to be played on the soul scene - I can remeber 'Deja Vu' back in the day being flogged for £20 when I still had it in the racks @ it's correct £2.99 - why is is it? The majority can be found on Ebay for 99p.
  8. I'd love to hear the Clifton Hall tapes mate.
  9. The thing is, the more stuff I hear that gets played on the scene these days, it's more just like a 50's/60's/70's soul scene now than the stuff I'd call Northern (if that's what we're on about) - especially with people trying to squeeze undiscovered/unplayed tracks in(on)to it - it's bound to go in a different direction as the majority of stuff of NS ilk has been discovered and played. It's a whole new scene, with a whole lot of new people on, all with differing (and dare I say, correct, for them) ideas of what soul/niter tracks are - so in a way it's fair game if tracks like this are being danced to....it's just the way the scene is developing....not wrong and no one in particulars fault.
  10. Went to Wigan shopping on Monday, Arnold Blair in TK Maxx, 'Time' - Edwin in Bank, The Silhouettes somewhere else - it seems the Casino Cafe is keeping the fire burning ay!
  11. Yeah, that's about finished me off. I remember the lights coming on and having a few words with the Blackpool lads, then coming down the bannisters talking to Vernon from Bradford and getting to the door to bursting sunshine and walking home in a bit of a daze. Bloody awful moment in my life....but one that spawned a thousand other stories in London, Rotherham, Sheffield, Leicester, Stafford, Morecambe, Hinckley, Buzzard etc etc etc - one door closes...!?
  12. Awwwww mate.
  13. Oh...and Pete..it did.
  14. Anyone remember the sit in in M's?
  15. Haha, cheers.
  16. Stew - I've just gorn cross eyed son.
  17. Right this minute I'm gonna go for the Rose Valentine & the Sisters Three c/u Little Ann - 'When He's Not Around'. It reminds me of being full of awe and head down at sixteen, in the top right hand corner of the dancefloor near the stage at Wigan, waiting for the brass to break and the subsequent acrobatics that were about to kick off around me - then that cataclysmic tear you to shreds end vocal....and for that I will always love it.
  18. Searling at that time was the db's, couldn't fault them playlists then and still can't now. My main reason for attending Wigan as often as I did. Genius.
  19. I'd not thought about that for years 'til I saw this post, Googled it and Chuck Mangione was in the same episode. They had Ashford & Simpson in a later episode too.
  20. I remember Leslie Uggams turning up in an episode of Magnum P.I.
  21. Thanks for that, proper enjoyed it.
  22. A Mecca one too.
