  1. I keep reading this kinda post relating to 'Elusive' and just don't get it - it was a staple nighter sound for years, great for the dancefloor and a made for a nighter 70's sound - I love it. I put a founding NJ House jock on, Hippie Torrales, last year and we had a bit of an party after the club, at which point, about 4.30 am, what does he drop? Babe Ruth! - And the proper mix - I fucking fell over.
  2. Dave. My post 'When Wigan Died' was, I would think, obviously drawn from a period within which I attended The Casino - as I cannot speak about any other period, as I wasn't there. Again obviously (if you take the time to actually read my opening gambit), my post singularly pointed toward a particular period - early 1980. Correct? My question wasn't aimed at people who wanted to state that they attended Wigan first and that their period was better than mine - was it? ....Really? The view it appears you are referring to in your reply, as it was the only one I took exception to -therefore it can't really be any other?!l - was... from Chrissie - which had absolutely nothing at all to do with my original question. It was just a personal, if flippant, view by another member at maybe innocently pointing out that for him the Casino died for him at that time - nothing to do with my question - at all. Me and Chrissie then entered into the age-old message board to's and fro's about whose Dad is the hardest - and at the end of my day, it passes a minute but I don't take it personally, this is how people get their shit out. On the back of my above explanation, which I think at heart you knew already - your unnecessary reply puzzles me. I am well aware that people view things differently to me, so please don't condescend. Again, if I can't innocently post a question without getting involved in a w*nky "I don't really like you as you spout your mouth off when yer pissed" altercation with armchair soulies, then I'll leave you to it. That was a lie btw - I won't. Tell me where I went wrong with with this post? Do you see my original question as anything other than a relevant post that may possibly have garnered responses from other Soulies that attended Wigan at the period I initially spoke about? That is without the ill positioned dig, that I think you speak about in your reply, that I received?
  3. Good evening Greg - how's Chester treating you son?
  4. Those replies lads are what I hope to get when I'm here, thanks.
  5. This is such a great example of a track that people had, before it's time, and kept (no cool points to be had in owning it in 1980+) as it was even then, obviously quality.
  6. One that fits the bill for me would be George Bensons - 'On Broadway' - Evison's Number One Modern sound 1980.
  7. Another case of TMG-itis? I do love the fact that people feel the need to spend hard-earned on stuff that just fills a hole over something that they, may musically, love more.
  8. The next time you give your opinion Chrissie, note the fact that I, would never dream of having a poke at it. As ever, with all the respect us Soulies give to one another (or used to) Barry
  9. Bang on - absolutely BANG ON!! Why is there a need to say 'take Searling out of the equation and it wouldn't have been what it was' - and what Wigan did to a generation (whatever time you spent in the lovely old bugger of a building) - Searling WAS there - and teamed with the other fantastic bastards that made my life worth living ever since, made Wigan summat to shout about. At what point do people that purport to love this scene begin to have a go at old romantics and their memories, like myself, to say that it wasn't all that? If you EVER see me have a go at another venue, at a time when the NS scene was inhabited by people who were spurred to travel the country to dance to an incredible form of music, and not just chutzpah about wether their time was better than mine, then ban me. I've proper got the hump at the mo ( ), as I'm sure I haven't tried to push my opinions on this scene on anyone else, unlike others - just share my (happy) memories of my beautiful youth - wholly thanks to the N Soul scene. I know that message boards, in some ways, serve as an egotistical vent within which we can all tell the world what we have done, where we have been, what records we have etc etc - but isn't that why these boards exist, for us to share - you've put in, so why not tell people, they're all the same, we are? Balls to it! I love Northern, course I do - but f*ck you if you want to get all negative on my arse for telling people about my time. Yours lovingly, A low end hierachy Soul Boy, who will still be there when a lot aren't. ps I know I'm milking this but I'm not arsed.
  10. ha ha me and the missus have done the same - whoever puts the old TK cds together is an undercover soulie winder - Tyrone Davis, Rubin etc etc - Well in.
  11. Thanks for that insight Chrissie. Yours (always up for a good discussion) Barry
  12. All it is mate, there's a place for good old laddish musical flippancy. Personally I'm long enough in the tooth to understand that I don't have THE defining line that gives me the right to say that I am right. Whatever we are talking about. I'm big enough to admit that, to you, you are right and I will always be wrong, and I will make inroads into holding back my memories of this scene if it causes you that much trouble - honestly, I will. But to call somebody a C**T on a message board in full view of the world - I think you need to step back and re-evaluate exactly what you have done for this scene. Again, with respect.
  13. Blinkered.
  14. I've been had over, record-wise, by the majority of dealers I've bought from - and well done them. It's a business, just because you and I don't see it that way has nothing to do with it.
  15. I'm sure Chrissie if you had met me socially, you'd like me - as it is right now, I'll just leave you to dislike me form afar. Respect and good wishes.
  16. Now that's a positive mate - but there have been a thousand blackguards on this scene, and every other - that's life - I just don't see the point of character assasination on a, very, public board!?
  17. And I wll never argue with your HO - cos I can't - you will always - ALWAYS - be right - and I respect that.
  18. Don't be so bloody stupid. Again - PM me mate - if you want to talk, talk to me.
  19. Fair do's Chrissie, yours is a personal thing - I don't think that yours and KR personal dealings should cloud his personal media expressions that's all. So he had you off (and maybe in your eyes, others too) but wtf has that got to do with the bloke giving the watching world something to go off when it comes to furthering their NS knowledge?
  20. Chrissie, I apologise for eulogising over a period in my life that I enjoyed - I also attended Rotherham Clifton Hall, Leicester Oddfellows, Hinckley Leisure Center, Leighton Buzzard, Samanthas, 100's Club, Morecambe - Da Di Da Di Da and so on and so forth....I know it's early (or late for some of us) but try and be positive mate - I'm not hear to annoy, just to remind myself why, at 43, I still bother to post to people I think (obviously sometimes incorrectly) may give a shit. PM me mate, save your fingers.
  21. That's what PMs are for Chrissie, for you to air your grievancies to the bloke in question - posts on well- viewed forums such as this, are just nasty pot shots.
  22. As the majority of us did. You loved it, I loved it and in the cold light of (my) day, nowt can, or will ever be able to come near it. A statement that will no doubt cause some ire amongst others but I've been here, there and every bastard where - week in and week out ever since, both here and abroad....and nothing comes near. That is, in my opinion. And you can't argue (with me that is) with that.
  23. Over 50 Chrissie?
  24. Was it early '80 maybe? Prob 200 outside, obviously not enough to warrant the opening (and staffing) of the whole venue. Just M's open - nobody ever seems to mention this period.
  25. Ta! My Wigan 'seating' spec was under the stairs to the right hand side of the stage - dancing spec, in front-ish (depending on how busy it was) of the right hand speaker.
