  1. I've just re read that post btw. And it's bang on.
  2. Over the years, not only on the NS Scene - it could be any scene, but I see a general post, the likes of.... 'The scene died in....' Well you know why - they/you/anyone - posted that stupid, no turning back post? Cos that was the day that they/you/anyone turned their back on the scene - your poor decision. Fair do's, you had kids, you weren't that bothered, you moved to the Outer Hebrides (any venues there btw?). But don't use your lack of passion, so easily spotted by others, as some kind of ridiculous excuse to make up for that same lack of passion. One 'Wrong', I'm afraid, will always be just that. Monet painted, and unluckily died, before Damien Hirst - but I don't see Our Dame saying that old Monet was a shi*t artist cos he got hold of a crayon first. Really??? Message Board BS! Hilarious. I hope that this post, annoying as it may be to those that are not initiated in the 'World Of The Message Board' and all its strange wonders (??), will, if nothing else be but a small part in killing of the poorly thought out and endlessly seen 'NS died in...' thread. It's obvious - it'll never end. (You're just caught up in that cyberspace schizophrenia that makes you think that because your husband bought Judy Street on Soul Stop when people used to wear Pegs, that you have a valid opinion) Well, you bloody don't.
  3. ....I've started three responses to your answer mate, and deleted them all. All I can come up with is, truthfully, is....'Whatever'? I'll leave the readers of this post to make their own minds up. Respect Barry x
  4. How do you work that out Dave? Really? 'Favourites' on your Browser, possibly? I'll offer that you should make the call to 'WHICH' magazine that are advertising a pamphlet (Don't get to use that word often) on the telly at the moment...that''l give you a little guidance with 'Them Computers'. (Unnecessary post mate - but you made it)
  5. I'll go along with quantity of sounds being, possibly, broke elsewhere other than Wigan - but think about THOSE records that were broke at Wigan - we can wax lyrical all night, and we are all at the end of the day RIGHT - cos they are our opinions, and they to us are All - you're your own person at the end of the day. You can put one track up against another all day, at the end of that day I truly believe that honest chit chat furthers matters. Matters that we all care about - but point scoring 'I know this, he didn't play that, why was nobody there' shit just fragments the scene. This board at times, regarding Niter venues, reminds me of the UK media - always looking for a finger hole to have a go at someones hard work. If you want my honest view, less bullshit and a little more understanding pro active behaviour will possibly give it another ten years. Yours (arseholed). Baz X
  6. I'll not quote specifically on the responses given, thank you for them btw, I'll just give my feelings on the matter. I do know that there are a very large number of Niters at present, I also know that to have a degree of balance DJ wise will be a struggle - given the amount of WWW opinions that sway peoples weekend movements these days. All I'm saying is that I have found your responses to my question enlightening, again thank you, all taken on board, and I will do my best to enjoy the night that me and Richard (Francis) are looking to do, wherever, up here. If you choose to be a part of it by turning up is kind of secondary to our aims - we are dyed in the wool Soul Boys that are only doing it for the plain fact that we are long in the tooth enough to deal with 'failure'. Again, if you need a packed to the rafters venue to say that a night was worthy of your egotistical message board 'we were there' posts - then we don't need your footspace. I don't mean to alienate any f*cker, I just like saying it as how I see it. Anyaway, we've no venue yet, so my trappings are plainly without substance - but please, watch this space. Yours Lovingly - and at all times with Soul in my mind. Barry (ps - apologies, my work generally means that I turn up pissed on here at this time - I'm harmless ...but focused to f*ck)
  7. Three very valid responses. Agreed?
  8. The Capitol 7" release was far too polished, it just lost all it's integrity.
  9. You can't run down 30 years in realtime and say that an object, just as it sells down the line for 15k or whatever, should benefit the artist - at the end of the day, shouldn't your argument be aimed at the label getting the money, they were the ones that put their cash on the table - the lad singing was paid for opening his gob? I feel a lot of these posts re 'Artists' getting some come back are quoted out of good feeling and not how people actually live their record buying life. Never bought a ten bob pressing?
  10. I must pick up on this valid point btw - it still goes on - we gave a young four piece band a spot at one of our Soul Nights at the Dome in Brum mid 90's - Eternal - 3 black girls and Jamies missus, 'Louise' - all went fine until the expectant US tour.... when Eternal came home to roost, strangley Louise was offered a solo deal - Black America didn't take too kindly to the band not being all black. I'm not eulogising here, that was the whole script. So, from Isley Bros albums with surfers on to, in reality, buy out clauses for white girls in an 'expected' black bandette - has Rosa Parks steel borne fruit, at least in the music industry?
  11. Brian! Welsh or not, if you don't get it....you just don't get it mate. Johnny Vanelli, Paul Anka, Dean Parrish, Bobby Paris...da di da....they were Welsh too ay?
  12. The question that opens this thread seems to be a stalwart SS question, true? Why is it asked? How many boarders do not know the well-worn www.raresoulman.co.uk : see 'Auction' ...;by now? 'Oh! I missed it, does anyone know the finishing prices?' Does it make you appear more involved by asking the above question, longer winded it is than just looking yourself and not having to bother with this site I really can't work this one out. At the end of the day, I know I'm playing Devils Adcocate but come on Board, less Bulshit, more Positivity. I know that in reality the aforementioned post stimulates conversation - but surely it's easier to look yerself and wax lyrical about 'HOW MUCH?' that tune went or 'How shit 'JM's auctions have gone lately' (Get Real... and come back in another life as someone who made a difference.) Message Board Land is a World apart. I have a thread on my board entitled - 'REALSPEAK'....if you think I am being a bit of a spoilsport, you should run through it sometime. I swear that 1) At some point, you'll laugh and 2) you'll understand that getting rid of BS free's up space for more important matters.
  13. 100's Club memories, early 80's - Brian Rae - Kenny - Keb - Ion (Old Ball)....does anyone remember the 2am openers - Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen beforehand at it - entering a room filled with Cruella DeVille lookalikes, cheroot holders and Mink, and varying 50+ odd-balls with long shoes? I do.
  14. It's got FA to do with 'moving on' mate - there are bound to be those that use Wigan as a bit of a Big Up - but majoritively, the ones that post about...and there are many (Why? Cos it was without doubt, without compare), Wigan just to recount their youth/childhood. I swear, that the amount of Wigan posts (unlike your own), spin around happy times. Any prodding post (again, like your own) is just a negative, and has no place on here. You are just marking yourself down, to me and others that have read your shitty opening thread. Sorry, I'm sure you are not a 'Hater'....but this thread makes you look like one. Again sorry (I'm not really as I take it you never got there - too young, to not arsed, having a break...whatever). Love A true and Positive Soulie Baz PS (As an aside, could someone start a Poll on how long I will last on this board?)
  15. May I ask the board and all its entrants? What would you want of it? Would you want all Oldies, All Newies, All Modern, All Kebs playlist from Stafford, All the Left Fielders from the Clifton Hall, Morecambe, Oddfellows etc etc? Or would you want a Unified, stone cold, built from the heart All Nighter that follows the unique traditions that this scene's hopes and asprirations were built upon? No bitching, no 'Aw fuckin' Hell, he played Alfie Davidson' after...whatever! I'll tell you now, as once again, I'm pissed but I am looking to open a Nighter up North, before next summer. If it burns and crashes, I'll live with that, but it is not how many come through the door....just who... comes through That door. Yours, keeping the landing light on, and whole heartedley committed to not letting the NS scene become the area, open only to people that want spend £40 on X over records that you couldn't get Ten Bob for before they realised that their hips couldn't stand anymore. Love, Baz. X
  16. Also I think that, as a point of social (Wigan) history, it should be pointed out that anyone that used to attend Wigan Early Sessions [prior to the Oldies Night] around the Nutty Boy 'Madness'/'Selector' period, like I did (Bus from Wire/Bees Knees/ Get twatted by the Punks and the Wigan Town Lads for yer pennies outside whilst you were waiting)...'It's Not Unusual' sounded Fuckin' Brilliant over that sound system. Six stone, piss wet through, penniless, bruised, and after being cash-raped by the Wigan Town Lads, still a lad that got in, you just moved over to the right hand door [non-membership] - 'No pushin' at the back please' (cos the Town Lads used to nick your membership card) and paid an extra 25p. No Hilda Woods, which didn't fulfill your night, but them floorboards were yours - and still are - I have four in me Mams airing cupboard.
  17. TFFT Jocko. Chrissie, I could wallow in the fact that this response is generally the response of the majority of people that have read this ridiculous thread (thanks for your input btw). It is very obvious (by your unecessarry [DT] responses) that you KNOW that I am the Real Deal. I apologise to you for your lack of input on this scene. Anyway - as to save the board any more sh*t - please PM me with any more grievances that you may have about my happy and positive memories of the lovely life this glorious scene has given to me....as obvioulsly all you wanna do is bitch....poor love, POOR! Long Live Northern & the people that read posts for what they are...and not for how they make them look.
  18. PS 'Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache' ...as someone who has released vinyl and sees that each release you make (each costing you money) has only two stabs at making it - to cover a Stone Cold Dancefloor Favourite like that....must have meant something. Big up KR!
  19. Corinne Drewery of 'Swing Out Sister' - Real NS girl. I don't think that you can write Anna Ford off as 'someone who was filming'. And Steve Davis, given his wedge, turned a lot of it over to buying Real Soul Music...so don't have a pop just cos he wasn't off his tits on the dancefloor at your local niter - it is about You and not what you want to purvey to others, after all (As Big Sam once said). Kevin Rowland, I feel also it meant a lot to. An amount of the posts I have read seem to be posts about famous people that have just recognised Northern - they don't really count - They don't - I bought a Culture Club record once , but I don't really hope that because of that I will be held up on a CC message board as someone who was prevalent in keeping old BG in dresses. Is Stu Mc more true to NS tyhan KR because he has the option to spread the word over the Radio - I'm not sure. It's about how YOU see it, live with it...and ultimaltely use it to live your life. Nothing to do with your fame.
  20. I've not read the whole thread but, and it may have been pointed out earlier, Otis Redding was quoted as saying that Tom Jones was the most soulful singer on earth. I for one won't argue with that, at the time it was quoted. Check his early albums out - Ten Bob on boot sales all over the UK.
  21. Rob Grant - Mr Invisible - and the likes of whom make the backbone of this scene.
  22. Dave - I know that the above post wasn't your initial response to my airtight view, you have edited it - I'm not point scoring, I don't feel the need to, but that's poor. My Dad would be bigger than yours - but he can't be arsed. I almost feel like I've wasted a small piece of my life responding to this bobbins but I feel safe in the knowledge that I (thanks to you and Chrissie) have given the lurkers summat to smile at. Spectrum Is Green. x
  23. Spot on Toad. I'm pleased you are, very obviously by that post, one of the lucky ones.
  24. It begs dancing to - a true shufflers record - 'Thought I saw you in the park - could be my imagination - then it suddenly went dark....you disappeared - Tried to find you, tried to find you, ain't so easy as it seems, like a needle in a haystack, I see you in all my dreams' - then the genius guitar break over the bassline drops and its just the bomb. Reminds me of Yogi and talcy moccassins. Nice to see people coming back with positive responses to todays unplayed tracks.
  25. Don't duck it Chrissie, you were wrong, just read the post again and don't babble bobbins. Yours lovingly; a caring and bullshit free soulie with nothing in his heart but goodness and happy memories. Love Baz x
