HI NEV, I think you are spot on highlighting the attitude of the older generation towards the younger element of the soul fraternity. Personally i feel this is particularly prevelant amongst the promotors of soul nights and especially all nighters. I have regularly looked on this site and others at the events sections to see if any of the younger djs are appearing at the rare soul and all nighter events but they are conspicuos by there absence. Little evidence there then to dispel the rumours of the niter scene being a closed shop!!!. It seems the promotors just will not give these guys an oppertunity to play. I have had the pleasure of listening to the likes of Liam Q, Azza, Paul and one or two others and must say they are refreshing in their outlook and playlists. You can see that their inspiration has evolved over time from mod orientated beginnings to northern - soul and rare soul but are true to the ethos of not being blinkered when it comes to their music tastes or influenced by the baggage of the past or present day venues that still live in the past. Not everything they play is to my taste but then neither is what Andy Dyson or Butch plays at Boomerang either. Again Nev you mention about the generations not wanting to mix with each other but i have found that if you do not look down on these young men and women and treat them with respect then you can have a great nite out at one of their events. As you say above that its all about attitude so lets embrace these lads becuase they are here and they are GOOD at what they do. regards ROY

HI NEV Well i have read the whole listing and i am sure it would confuse many an unweary buyer. However further down the listing the sellar does state clearly that the records in question are NOT originals. GOT to state that in my opinion the listing is deliberatley constructed to appear that the buyer will get an "original" second issue disc with the sellar maximising the monies gained from the auction. regards ROY

WEBBY, Saw plenty of busts, all shapes and sizes, those girls wernt too shy in them days either that or they thought it was dark enough for nobody to notice. One things for sure they were all real, no boob jobs in those days  Hope i am on the right track here regarding "busts" ROY

WILL YOU BE PLAYING "TAPAS AND TELL" BY THE LANZA GOSPEL CHOIR -
AH, The barathea blazer. This was a must for the more shall we say stylish guy who frequented the various soul venues from the late sixties up until about the mid seventies. Remember wearing mine in the early seventies and actually took it on a stage by braiding the edges of the whole blazer. Looked really smart with Levi 501s or Sta pressed, brouges and dispensed with the hankie in favour of the Central Soul Club badge. This look is still around today regarded as stylish as opposed to fashionable. Have to agree about the badges and the reason why so many people had them although they were practical for the multitude of clothing we all needed at the time when dancing the night away:yes: ROY

Now i dont like their pop shite they produce but they did an achapela version of Silent Night and it absolutely blew me away. These guys, when you get past the hair do's daft clothes etc. these boys could really sing!!!!! ROY -
Pretty much bang on with your views on this Chalks, as you say those struggling beat the drum the harder and louder than all the others. As for flyers, how many have we seen that actually advertise more than their own event?. Less paper also!. Certainly gets the green vote from me. ROY

Music Genre... How Many Do We Have On The Scene
SOULCENTRAL replied to Little-stevie's topic in All About the SOUL
Is the one highlighted in red above for the ladies only or can we all do it. At 34d would i qualify??? :D -
Chalky, you still persist in making assumptions regarding the direction of the post and also make a point of saying that some replies stated the event was "done soley for the money". In both my earlier replies i have refuted these claims although you do not seem to have taken this on board! If you want to persist with this view, fair enough. My consience is clear. Enough said!!!!!! regards ROY

Chalks, in no way did i infer that Mr Roberts only puts on an event to make money. However by his own admission on many occasions on this website he has openly stated that he is in the business of promoting soul events and businesses exist to make money. I have no issues with what Mr Roberts does, or does not do, in the world of soul music and the various avenues in which he is involved in a business sense. Much of what he has done over the years for the soul scene and is currently doing has to be admired and applauded. It is unfortunate that you as a moderator have chosen to assume that people are slagging off another member on this forum, by thier tounge in cheek reply to a general question, wether it was a personal opinion or not. Dont see the very eloquent and very funny Mr Burton copping the same flack!. regards ROY
-
Chalky, Bob asked a quite genuine question and a few replies were offered. I do not recognise any of those replies as either slagging one promoter off or singing the praises of the other. Unlike Nev(who is one of the many voting with their feet) i will probably attending both events this time around and i do not have an issue or friendship/favouritism with either promoter. ROY

Although a little tounge in cheek-likewise chalks ROY

I THINK THE ANSWER IS QUITE SIMPLE! The Whitby promoter wants to make loadsamoney. The Brid promoter wants to cover costs. Or is he paying his dj,s too much!!! We the soul following public just want a great time getting vfm at one or the other or both!! ROY
-
Not being an all nighter person myself in this present day, it is difficult to comment on this one. The initial question was " why are we awash with all nighters". I think the reply should be "do we really need them"!. I have read many posts and lookbacks on soulsource regarding all nighter events and it seems the balance of the number of established nighter events available, combined with the quality of the dj,s and music, is just about right for those all nighter regulars. Even taking into account regional considerations there seems to be a good spread across the country with many people not having too far to travel. As chalky points out more events coming on line without due thought to what is already in place will only dilute what is already a somewhat diminishing audience. The soul nite offering is already suffering as a result of too many events on same nights as established events and quite often within 10 miles of each other!. Much of this i feel is down to "record/viynl enthusiasts" who feel they can offer something better and so become promoters and dj,s quite often to the detriment of all concerned. This scenario becomes even more apparent as many of the established soul nites become more compalcent and staid in there offering forcing punters and wannabe dj,s to pastures new. Soulsource has one of the more comprehensive events calendars available for established and wannabe promoters to check if events clash but as Chalky points out some(not all) have little respect for whats already on the calender and in truth could not care less!!!! What Are The Current Big Spins Of The Moment?

YES BRI, And that was just to drink the beer ROY

Well said Bri. Seen you at many events taking in both rooms where northern and modern/crossover share the same venue. I am struggling these days to find all nighters that do two rooms and i think the demise of such events are now like the dodo-extinct. However the two room nite events seem to be flourishing and i believe that this is down to the fact they finish around 2am. Many of the attendees and also the dj fraternity do struggle with all nighters and the traditional 8am finish. If you want the best of both worlds then try the likes of Bury, Nantwich, Metrodome or if you just want a great mix of music the likes of The wardrobe in Leeds, Beat Boutique in Manchester and many others.
